The first exam wasn't quite like the one in Ruohuo's memories.

Then again, it made sense. They couldn't use the same test for decades, could they?

Still, some parts of the exam were similar.

For instance, you could earn points by knowing how to cheat—or, more accurately, how to gather intelligence.

That was how Ruohuo saw it.

The final question about humanity from Naruto's exam would definitely not have appeared at a time like this.

What a joke... The Third Shinobi World War was Konoha's most dangerous conflict, with the enemy advancing right to Kikyo Mountain.

In a situation like that, would they really prioritize humanity when selecting people who could fight?

And what about White Fang's death?

"Huh? White Fang?"

Ruohuo rubbed his chin. "At this point in time, White Fang should be about to go on that mission, right?"

If he got the chance, he could talk to Fugaku and try to get him to support White Fang.

The system had already given him a clear response.

After completing an S-rank mission, it seemed he could unlock a relationship module, which should let him acquire a few subordinates or something.

He had no idea whether there would be more missions after an S-rank one. SS? SSS?

Either way, having a few more helpers certainly wouldn't hurt.

Looking at the forest before him, Ruohuo felt sure he had this in the bag.

What he didn't know was that two old men in front of a Crystal Ball were already arguing fiercely over him.

"That's cheating! Monkey! That evil Uchiha doesn't deserve to become Chunin!"

"But you just said he was following the rules!"

"That's different!" Danzo slammed a hand on the table. "He's breaking the rules now. Cheating isn't allowed. He should be disqualified!"

The Third was so angry he could barely speak. "This exam is a test of one's ability to gather intelligence. What are you even talking about, Danzo?"

"If he dares cheat in an exam today, tomorrow he'll be peeking at Konoha's classified intelligence for the Uchiha. It's a flaw in the Uchiha's very nature. They're born evil, Monkey!"

"He's still a child, Danzo!"

"Monkey... You've disappointed me. Have you forgotten our teacher's lessons?"

"How many times do I have to tell you? He's still a child, Danzo!"

"But the Uchiha's evil blood flows through his veins!"

"You've gone too far, Danzo!"

"You're the one who's too soft, Monkey. A brat like him doesn't deserve to be a ninja!"

"I'm the Hokage!"

"You'll regret this!"

You had to hand it to ninjas and their physical resilience.

They'd argued this fiercely, yet neither of them seemed to be suffering from high blood pressure or a heart attack.

The two old men glared at each other for a full minute. Neither backed down.

The Third didn't even bother paying attention to the examiner announcing the results through the Crystal Ball.

At the exam ground where Ruohuo had taken the test, only two teams besides his had passed.

The pass rate was less than half...

Might Guy had written down more than thirty pieces of intelligence on his own, thanks to years of exam experience and time spent as a Genin.

His list included detailed information on several candidates who had failed the previous year's exam, as well as the examiner himself...

That's right. The examiner had once been Might Duy's teammate. More than ten years ago, they'd been classmates at the Ninja Academy...

"Regardless, he's already passed the first exam."

The Third sat back down, relit his pipe, and said in a low voice, "As for the second exam, the boy has no teammates."

"No teammates?" Danzo narrowed his one eye. "Then why did you approve his entry into the exam?"

Danzo stopped short after saying that.

He'd nearly forgotten that Monkey hadn't wanted the boy to graduate in the first place.

"Orochimaru came to ask me before leaving on a mission. He thinks highly of the boy."

The Third took a puff of his pipe. Now that he'd calmed down, he realized how pointless that argument had been.

They'd gotten so used to arguing over the years...

Whenever Danzo started, he always got drawn into it.

"There wasn't enough time to find the boy a teammate, and none of this year's candidates are taking the exam alone."

The Third spoke gravely. "I never wanted the children to advance too quickly. This Chunin exam can just be an experience for them."

The Third had practically jinxed it.

"Hmph!" Danzo snorted, but didn't say anything more.

A six-year-old brat thought he could pass the Chunin exam alone?

"Hmm?" Danzo narrowed his eye.

Monkey might do foolish things, but from what he knew of Orochimaru, that man was nothing like their teacher...

Did Orochimaru really think the boy could pass the Chunin exam?

If so...

"What are you thinking about?" the Third suddenly asked.

"I was thinking about that brat's cheating just now."

Danzo replied coldly, "He violated the exam rules, but I have to admit, he found the loopholes twice in a row."

"Finding a loophole doesn't mean he broke the rules, Danzo." The Third continued puffing on his pipe as he stared at Danzo.

"Never mind that... What I value is his talent for espionage."

Without waiting for the Third to respond, Danzo shook his head in feigned regret. "Too bad he's an Uchiha. Otherwise, Root might consider training him."

"..." The Third continued smoking. He stared at Danzo for a long while before turning his gaze back to the exam ground.

"If Kagami were still alive... Danzo, you'd disappoint him."

"If Kagami were still alive, he'd have the Uchiha under control, Monkey."

At the mention of their old friend, both men fell silent in tacit agreement.

But Danzo knew.

He'd won this round...

Inside the Crystal Ball, Ruohuo stood with the other remaining candidates in front of the second exam ground.

He now had a scroll in his hand.

"This exam will end at this time seven days from now."

"All you have to do is obtain both the 'Heaven' and 'Earth' scrolls by any means available within the exam grounds."

"Then make your way to the tower to pass the exam."

"Listen carefully. If you can't continue or find yourself in danger during the exam, you may open your scroll immediately, but that will count as giving up."

The female examiner explained the rules, which were similar to the ones Ruohuo remembered.

Unfortunately, she wasn't wearing fishnet stockings, and her figure wasn't as voluptuous as the future Anko's.

"Speaking of which, I haven't seen little Anko in ages."

"I wonder if the girl misses me..."

Ruohuo silently memorized all the candidates as he munched on a rice ball, wondering to himself.
