Background

Bai E grew up in Aili Mi Xie alongside Xi Lian. As a child, he wrote that he wished to protect the village with a sword from Whirlwind City and hoped the world would never need a Savior. He hid a wooden soldier in the village granary and was known for climbing walls and slipping away to play. 1573

He later identifies the Fire-stealer as the figure who destroyed Aili Mi Xie and killed his family, teacher, and other villagers. Encounters with the Fire-stealer repeatedly make him lose emotional control, even after his combat ability improves. 1433

The Oracle cards presented in Aili Mi Xie designate him as the Savior. Initially confused by the title, Bai E comes to accept that protecting others is his own choice rather than merely a predetermined role. 1576 1577

After Xi Lian sacrifices herself to reset the world, Bai E accepts that he must confront his own origin in Destruction to resist the force behind the Black Tide. He abandons the safety of the Aili Mi Xie memory and begins traveling through successive eras and cycles to seek a different future. 1585 1586

In a later cycle, Bai E explains that “Chaoslan” is not solely a personal name, but the mythological incarnation of Kefar and a title synonymous with a Hero. He ultimately relinquishes the Savior Oracle’s significance to entrust Yan Huan with the power of the past. 1590

Bai E is a white-haired young man who usually carries a longsword. As a Golden Descendant, he possesses golden blood; it is visibly spilled after the Fire-stealer severely wounds him in battle. 1378 1474

Bai E is competitive but not callous. He turns clearing Xuan Feng City into a friendly emblem-collecting contest with Myriad Enemies, yet recognizes that his rival is homesick and wants to spare him public embarrassment. 1198

He has long struggled with self-doubt, especially when asked to inherit divine authority or lead Okhma. He nevertheless accepts responsibility when Aglaya entrusts the city to him, choosing to address its citizens publicly rather than retreat from the burden. 1258 1442 1443

His compassion is central to how others judge him. Aglaya believes he understands and tolerates mortal flaws, while Bai E himself becomes increasingly aware that even powerful Golden Descendants can harm ordinary people through carelessness. 1442 1484

While disguised as an Earth Beast caretaker, Bai E listens to workers’ grievances over the Golden Descendants’ past behavior and feels ashamed rather than dismissing their criticism. This experience strengthens his awareness of the distance between heroes and ordinary citizens. 1484 1485

Despite the despair caused by countless failed cycles, Bai E persists in opposing fate and the gods’ imposed conclusion. His resolve can become ruthless, however, as alternate versions of him conclude that forcefully taking Sparks is the only way to continue resisting the Black Tide. 1588 1590

During an early return to the Golden War, Bai E reaches Kryudera through Haiseyin, persuades her to abandon reliance on the Oracle, and defeats the Titans after gaining the twelve Sparks.
