Background
Bai E grew up in Aili Mi Xie alongside Xi Lian. As a child, he wrote that he wished to protect the village with a sword from Whirlwind City and hoped the world would never need a Savior. He hid a wooden soldier in the village granary and was known for climbing walls and slipping away to play. 1573
He later identifies the Fire-stealer as the figure who destroyed Aili Mi Xie and killed his family, teacher, and other villagers. Encounters with the Fire-stealer repeatedly make him lose emotional control, even after his combat ability improves. 1433
The Oracle cards presented in Aili Mi Xie designate him as the Savior. Initially confused by the title, Bai E comes to accept that protecting others is his own choice rather than merely a predetermined role. 1576 1577
Appearance
Bai E is a white-haired young man who usually carries a longsword. As a Golden Descendant, he possesses golden blood; it is visibly spilled after the Fire-stealer severely wounds him in battle. 1378 1474
- Wields a longsword in ordinary combat, though his earlier white-iron weapons frequently crack under stronger opponents. 1433
- Later receives the greatsword Invasion Dawn, which can ignite with golden flames. 1443
- In an Aili Mi Xie recreation, he wears a purple tunic and orange trousers that Aglaya and Yan Huan criticize as overly vivid. 1577
Personality
Bai E is competitive but not callous. He turns clearing Xuan Feng City into a friendly emblem-collecting contest with Myriad Enemies, yet recognizes that his rival is homesick and wants to spare him public embarrassment. 1198
He has long struggled with self-doubt, especially when asked to inherit divine authority or lead Okhma. He nevertheless accepts responsibility when Aglaya entrusts the city to him, choosing to address its citizens publicly rather than retreat from the burden. 1258 1442 1443
His compassion is central to how others judge him. Aglaya believes he understands and tolerates mortal flaws, while Bai E himself becomes increasingly aware that even powerful Golden Descendants can harm ordinary people through carelessness. 1442 1484
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship
Bai E is a trained swordsman capable of fighting Heavenly Condemnation Kin, cutting through divine-chain restraints, and directly confronting the Fire-stealer.
- Cuts away a tenth of the immense golden cocoon restraining Myriad Enemies with repeated strikes. 1171
- Defeats Heavenly Condemnation Kin while collecting Xuan Feng Emblems in Xuan Feng City. 1198
- Battles the Fire-stealer with Invasion Dawn, though the enemy initially breaks his armor and badly injures him. 1474
- His emotional hatred of the Fire-stealer can compromise his judgment in combat. 1291 1433
Golden Descendant Physiology
Bai E bears Golden Descendant status and is later treated as a demigod-level protector of Okhma.
- Possesses golden blood. 1261 1474
- Can withstand attacks from a Fire-stealer projection that would previously have knocked him unconscious. 1433
- Is regarded as one of Okhma’s principal defenders, despite public criticism that he lacks dramatic achievements compared with other Golden Descendants. 1387 1443
Spirit Manipulation
Bai E can direct his spirit to manipulate objects at a distance.
- Demonstrates the technique by lifting Myriad Enemies’ phone—and its holder—into the air. 1426
- Learns the method while studying advanced techniques at the Enlightenment Throne. 1426
Soul Beads
Eleven Soul Beads are placed within Bai E to improve his odds of surviving the crisis facing Onfaros.
- The beads were originally intended for other Golden Descendants. 1379
- Dan Heng states that they allow Bai E to die eleven times, though carrying them leaves him physically overwhelmed. 1379
Temporal Cycle Experience
Bai E becomes entangled in repeated world resets and attempts to alter Onfaros’ fate.
- Xi Lian gives him a ritual sword intended to return him to the beginning of time after her sacrifice. 1585
- In successive cycles, versions of Bai E inherit the prior version’s flame and memories. 1589
- His repeated failures eventually drive some iterations to seize Sparks from former companions by force. 1588
