Axis didn't catch it at first, but he understood the girl's final sentence instantly.
This Gene-seed was not just any Gene-seed!
That metaphor was truly, incredibly apt!
Are the female psykers of the Empire this open? Asking for my Gene-seed the moment we meet.
Axis never believed in love at first sight; in this world, there is only lust at first sight.
When a man or woman takes a fancy to someone of the opposite sex, it is mostly because the other person looks good.
His own appearance wasn't ugly, but it wasn't particularly handsome either; it was impossible for him to attract the adoration of a powerful female psyker the moment they met.
Therefore, unsolicited displays of courtesy are either deceitful or predatory!
"Lady Kaisa, you're joking. I don't understand what you mean," Axis said, feigning ignorance.
"I've read your file. You were placed in a transformation tank before you were even seven years old and only recently awakened. Though you have learned a vast amount of Imperial knowledge, there are some things you may not have been taught. I could teach you!" Kaisa said.
According to his father, when Axis was being modified, he had wanted to castrate the boy's reproductive capabilities countless times, making him like the other Primarchs. But in the end, he didn't do it. As for the reason, his father never explicitly stated it.
"I know exactly what you're talking about! I don't need you to teach me such things; my mentor Malcador once instilled that knowledge in me. I am not ignorant of it. What is your goal in telling me this? I am conversing with you in a spirit of friendship, not to be teased by you," Axis said, his face darkening.
If Axis were to ever take a wife in the future, he would rather choose a beautiful vase—a well-educated noblewoman with pure bloodlines and perfect features and physique. She would only need to bear his children and raise them; she wouldn't need to do anything else.
But a psyker is incredibly dangerous. One slip, and they become a portal for flesh-demons; one slip, and they are corrupted by the powers of Chaos! Who knows when they might stab you in the back or slit your throat while you sleep?
"Caution is a good thing, Axis. You have passed the first test," Kaisa said with a smile.
"If that is the case, then it was a truly boring trial. Lady Kaisa, you have successfully driven my favorability to the absolute minimum," Axis replied.
Axis even considered asking Emperor to assign him a new liaison officer!
"I am very sorry, but believe me, I will stay by your side to help you. My Psykic Power is a force you cannot do without," Kaisa said.
A bit of a miscalculation! This kid isn't some naive, innocent little man! Although he spent a full twenty-four years in a stasis pod, his mental state is nothing like that of a youth. That shouldn't be the case!
"I hope so," Axis said.
If he discovered any sign of Chaos corruption in her, Axis would not hesitate to blast this female psyker into dust. He had learned much from Malcador over the years, yet Malcador had never uttered a single word to Axis regarding Chaos, only constantly instilling the so-called Imperial Truth.
Yet, why would he send such a powerful psyker to his side? If this psyker's strength was truly as great as she claimed, she could not possibly be ignorant of the truth about the Warp.
Watching Axis walk away, Kaisa sighed helplessly. Her father had given her two tasks. The first was to guide Axis, helping him slowly discover the threat of Chaos, to understand the Chaos Entities within the Warp, and to realize the danger of the dark gods.
The second task was to use her formidable Psykic Power to protect Axis. Within the Imperium, she was currently the most powerful psyker aside from her father and Malcador, though her standing would inevitably slip once that younger brother with Psykic Power returned. At this stage, she was the most potent psyker the Emperor could station by Axis's side, and because her power originated directly from Him, it remained invisible to Chaos forces—making her, in some respects, even more useful than Malcador. She was perfectly equipped to shield Axis from Chaos Entities.
The Emperor had His tasks, but she had her own agenda; she refused to return to that abyssal, suffocating dungeon. Denied all freedom, imprisoned by those Adeptus Custodes in their black armor, with no one to speak to and her Psykic Power severed, she had been left to wither away in despair. It was a torment beyond the imagination of any ordinary soul, and she would exhaust every possible means to ensure she never returned to that hell.
As for the youth before her, the Emperor's regard for him even surpassed that of the Primarchs. Based on what the Emperor had disclosed, the power he possessed should exceed that of an ordinary Primarch; otherwise, he would never have been tasked with the extermination of the Second Primarch.
That was why Kaisa wanted to establish a relationship beyond friendship with Axis. If a woman cannot protect herself, her nature will seek the protection of a male stronger than her. If she could establish a marriage alliance with Axis, their relationship would be even more reliable.
Perhaps! This was also her father's goal! Otherwise, Emperor would not have told her all of this. This was the cleverness of those in power. He told her that Axis was her only lifeline, but he didn't force the arrangement; everything was her own decision. Her father was always so wise.
Getting close to Axis was unavoidable, but this kid didn't seem easy to handle! Regardless, she had to seize this opportunity. She could never make that stupid mistake again; the last time she had, it had cost her a painful price. Even if she couldn't become the closest person to Axis, she would become his best comrade-in-arms!
Over the next two months, besides strengthening the bodies of the Adeptus Custodes, Axis also took the time to perform some physical enhancements for Kaisa. Their relationship seemed to return to normal; Kaisa did not pester Axis too much, only offering a friendly greeting each day.
Two months later, the Imperial Destroyer finally arrived at the target star system. By then, over a dozen destroyers of the Space Wolves Legion were already there. The largest of them, a Gloriana-class Battleship, was the flagship of the Wolf King, Leman Russ. The Space Wolves Legion was here as well.
"Russ is here too?" Axis asked.
Wasn't it said that I was the only one executing this mission?
