Appearance
Liu Shuling is a tall, powerfully built martial artist with a heroic bearing. She is usually seen in black, close-fitting training clothes with bare arms, though she also wears loose robes off the training ground. 78 89 131
- Nearly seven feet tall, with broad shoulders, a strong back, and heavily developed bronze-toned musculature. 78
- Has blade-like brows, bright star-like eyes, a high nose bridge, and slightly full lips. 78
- A shallow old scar at her temple adds to her rugged appearance. 78
- Her bright grin and white teeth are repeatedly noted, even during dangerous confrontations. 78 108 131
- Can carry and leap with a thousand-catty bronze Medicine-Devouring Tripod without visible strain. 78
Personality
Liu Shuling is direct, forthright, and values genuine ability over pedigree. When she first meets Chen Jianghe, she bluntly asks whether the other courts rejected him, then accepts him as her junior brother after recognizing his honesty and solid foundation. 78
She is fiercely protective of Soaring Wood Court disciples. She warns Chen Jianghe about retaliation from the Golden Pivot Court, openly confronts Sun Yuhai when he tries to pressure him, and intervenes without hesitation when Chen Jianghe is pursued by Demonic Sect experts. 84 92 107
Her protectiveness does not make her indulgent. While overseeing court discipline, she expels disciples whose cultivation has stagnated and who cannot meet the court’s vitality requirements, explaining that the martial path requires talent, resources, or perseverance. 103
Liu Shuling is also intensely competitive. Her long stagnation before peak Gang Strength stems from lacking a worthy opponent; rather than resent Chen Jianghe for challenging her position, she demands that he fight at full strength and treats their duel as the opportunity she needs to advance. 130 131

Story Role / Major Arcs
Entry into Soaring Wood Court
Liu Shuling meets Chen Jianghe at the Skill Transmission Pavilion immediately after he joins Soaring Wood Court. She tests him by having him lift the Medicine-Devouring Tripod, gifts him Willow Leaves Flying, and offers future instruction at Hundred Herbs Hall. 78
Protector and Mentor
After the Black Wind Cave mission, Liu Shuling warns Chen Jianghe that Sun Yuhai may seek revenge and makes clear that no one may bully a Soaring Wood Court disciple in front of her. She later agrees to protect and train Chen Jianghe when he fears entering the hostile Golden Pivot Court. 84 89
She accompanies him to the Golden Pivot Court’s Martial Sharpening Platform and openly challenges Sun Yuhai when he attempts to use seniority and numbers against Chen Jianghe. 92
Battle in the Green Rock Mountain Range
Liu Shuling arrives in time to save Chen Jianghe from Mo Wen. After Zhu Jingyi is killed, she battles Mo Wen and Zhao Li simultaneously despite mounting injuries; Chen Jianghe eventually creates the opening that allows them to kill both enemies. 107 108
Afterward, she and Chen Jianghe return Zhu Jingyi’s remains to Cangming Court and report the battle to the sect. 109
Court Discipline
Liu Shuling enforces Soaring Wood Court’s standards by expelling disciples who have neither progressed in cultivation nor maintained the required vitality fees. She frames the decision as a refusal to let disciples waste their lives on a path they no longer have the will to pursue. 103
Chief Disciple Duel
Han Shuitian names Chen Jianghe as Liu Shuling’s opponent for the position of Chief Disciple. Liu Shuling insists that he give everything in the contest, viewing a full-strength duel as the only way to break through her stagnation. 129 130
Chen Jianghe defeats her after an intense battle, but the pressure of the fight enables Liu Shuling to reach peak Gang Strength. She is promoted to Elder of Soaring Wood Court, while Chen Jianghe becomes Chief Disciple. 131
Elder of Soaring Wood Court
As an Elder, Liu Shuling continues to support Chen Jianghe’s leadership, warns him of internal resistance within the court, and helps him expose Sun Maocai’s corruption in the Lingmu Oath. 133 135
She later accompanies Chen Jianghe to Yilin County, helps him identify suspicious watchers along the road, and trains with him to prepare for the threat posed by Lie Fangxu. 143 145
