Origins and Construction

Floating Cities were the supreme achievement of the ancient Magic Empires. A standard city was built upon an inverted mountain peak: Legendary Mages severed the peak, reversed it through the Yutern Levitation Spell and Cronomaser Gravity Reversal Spell, placed a Mythallar Core at the center of its flattened surface, and constructed the city around it. Iolum Flying City was the model for later Floating Cities. 413

  • Mythallar Core — supplies the enormous magical power required to sustain the city and its systems. 116 404
  • Core Tower — the central control structure, containing the city’s highest authority and core facilities. 404 633
  • Magic rune network — links the city’s structures and permits centralized, top-down control; lower-level circuits cannot be used to seize control of the whole city. 406
  • Inverted mountain base — supports the city proper when it takes flight. 653
  • Floating islands — may be linked to the central city by enormous bridges and house specialized facilities, including air ports. Azera originally had eight such islands. 404

Azera / Kane Floating City History

Li Si learned that his great-grandfather had discovered Azera Floating City beneath a remote island in the outer Pearl Sea. Though the Kane ancestor explored its outermost areas and recovered wealth, he was severely injured and could not penetrate deeper into the city. 394

The city remained hidden for tens of millions of years through a mythal-like camouflage effect. It rested within a vast underground cavern, partly submerged in dark seawater, and continued operating despite extensive damage to its outer districts and floating islands. 404 406

Azera’s former inhabitants vanished during the Magic Net Great Collapse, when violent magical power destroyed the minds of spellcasters dependent on the Magic Net. The city also bore damage consistent with an external attack, later identified as an assault by the Church of the Gods. 634

Azera, the city’s damaged Magic Intelligent Life, recognized Li Si as a successor candidate. Under the city’s Final Clause, a new controller could be accepted when the city was in critical condition and no Legendary authority holder remained within it. 414

After reaching Legendary rank and breaking through the Core Tower’s defenses with Joyce, Li Si received Azera’s highest authority. He refined Azera’s Inheritance Key, formally became controller, and renamed the city Kane Floating City in honor of the Kane Family’s generations-long claim to it. 633 635

Appearance

A Floating City is a self-contained magical metropolis built around towering Mage Towers and suspended upon an inverted mountain. Kane Floating City is predominantly azure, with layered buildings, broad aerial platforms, luminous rune circuits, and multiple towers rising above the cityscape. 404 653

  • A central azure Core Tower crowned by a massive gemstone. 404
  • Four secondary Elemental Towers marked by rings of fire-red, water-blue, wind-indigo, and earth-yellow magical power. 405
  • Ordered residential and functional districts surrounding the central towers. 404 405
  • Extensive magical lighting and dense elemental mana permeating the city. 404 647
  • Large bridges connecting the main city to specialized outer islands. 404
  • A hollow mountain underside visible when airborne, casting a vast shadow over the land or sea below. 653

Capabilities and Systems

Mythallar Core and Flight

The Mythallar Core supplies the magical energy that allows a Floating City to operate and remain airborne. Kane Floating City can rise from its underground resting place and hover above Dan'erluo Port. 116 653

  • The city can maintain flight through immense magic arrays. 653
  • A Floating City’s internal magical power does not eliminate its need for externally supplied materials and resources. 301
  • Kane Floating City required repairs before it could reliably maintain mobility and self-defense. 636

Elemental Towers and Elemental Torrent

Kane Floating City is specialized in elemental control. Its Four Great Elemental Towers correspond to fire, water, wind, and earth, and their stored power can be combined through the city’s highest-grade arrays. 405 793

  • The resulting Elemental Torrent is Kane Floating City’s primary offensive weapon. 793
  • The towers provide elemental tempering through their Elemental Pools. 414
  • Lisa’s elemental talent makes her particularly suited to operate the city’s Elemental Golems and Magic Energy Cannons. 636

Defensive Network

A Floating City’s defenses are designed to resist intrusion and cannot be compromised simply by accessing local rune circuits. 406

  • Azera’s defenses included hundreds of Gold-level Elemental Golems and seven Legendary-level Elemental Golems. 405
  • Its Core Tower retained powerful defenses even after the outer regions were damaged. 414
  • Kane Floating City originally possessed 100 Legendary-level Magic Energy Cannons; only 16 remained usable after the attack that damaged it. 636
  • A Legendary Mage could not threaten Kane Floating City alone after more than half of its defensive measures had been restored. 660
  • During the Abyss Blood Battle of Li Si’s previous life, Azera and the Association’s two Floating Cities endured attacks by dozens of demon Legends without being shot down. 633

Arcane Facilities

Floating Cities contain facilities beyond those of an ordinary Mage Tower and can support a large magical population. 405

  • Dream Library / Grand Library — stores extensive magical knowledge; the Dream Library was named by Brandon Kane. 408
  • Magic Workshops — support magical production and research, including Rolando’s Magic Workshop in Azera’s inner city. 405 414
  • Arcane Gardens, binding chambers, detection chambers, sealing chambers, and blast-testing sites — standard specialized facilities for a Floating City. 405 414
  • Elemental Pools — enable Elemental Tempering within the Four Great Elemental Towers. 414
  • Air ports and transport infrastructure — originally allowed non-flying residents to board; Kane’s airships were destroyed alongside its outer floating islands. 404 655

Resident Benefits

Kane Floating City’s elemental environment grants temporary enhancements to those inside it. 655

  • Four Elements Tower
    • Maximum mana increased by 50%.
    • Mana recovery speed increased by 100%. 655
  • Arcane Study
    • Grants 10,000 free experience points every 24 hours.
    • Increases earth-, wind-, water-, and fire-related skill and spell proficiency gain by 30%.
    • Reduces the chance of Confusion, Intimidation, Stun, and similar negative statuses by 50%. 655
  • These effects disappear upon leaving the city. 655

Control and Administration

A Floating City requires both a qualified controller and a capable Magic Intelligent Life to function at full capacity. 414

  • Controller qualification — Azera’s Final Clause required a successor to reach the Core Tower by overcoming its defenses; Li Si became eligible after attaining Legendary rank. 414 633
  • Inheritance Key — grants the controller highest authority and prevents the city from being secretly seized by another party. 635
  • Magic Intelligent Life — a Gladys-level intelligence can allocate mana efficiently enough to unleash a Floating City’s full power. 413
  • Azera — the original intelligence of Azera Floating City, whose damaged core left her unable to maintain the city indefinitely. 414
  • Black Cat / Little Black — succeeded Azera as Kane Floating City’s managing intelligence and coordinates repairs, surveillance, golems, and daily operations. 635 659

Maintenance and Limitations

Despite their immense power, Floating Cities demand constant material support and are expensive to restore. 301 635

  • Damage to outer structures can weaken a floating island’s connection to the central city and restrict its available magical power. 406
  • Repairing Kane Floating City requires basic resources such as stone and steel as well as vast quantities of rare Magic Materials. 636
  • Constructing and repairing Elemental Golems consumes precious materials beyond the mana supplied by the Mythallar Core. 633
  • Kane’s damaged cannons, destroyed airships, ruined buildings, and dismantled Legendary Golems created an enormous repair burden for Li Si. 633 635 655

Residents and Recruitment

Li Si publicly opened Kane Floating City to applicants after it regained sufficient defensive capability. 650 653

  • Candidates must pass a review or guard recruitment assessment before gaining resident status. 653 655
  • Kane Floating City holds guard recruitment assessments once each week. 655
  • Elemental Golems enforce the city’s rules and remove unauthorized visitors attempting to remain beyond their permits. 659
  • The city’s appearance transformed Dan'erluo Port into a destination for spellcasters and Extraordinary Professionals across the Fanor Continent. 768
