"Bang!"
The heavy door was kicked open, and a fully armed Kanzaki Rin lunged inside.
Wearing a gas mask equipped with infrared sensors, she instantly locked onto Yagawa Ryoka's silhouette through the thick smoke.
She leveled her weapon and fired.
It was a strange-looking pistol, but instead of bullets, it unleashed flickering arcs of electricity.
Struck by the discharge, Yagawa Ryoka shrieked and collapsed to the floor, convulsing.
Kanzaki Rin pulled the trigger repeatedly, emptying the stun gun's entire energy reserve.
She had come prepared today; as an intern, this was the most powerful weapon she could requisition from the Countermeasure Department.
Although vampires possessed incredible regenerative abilities and were practically immortal, they still bled when cut and went numb when shocked.
Once the energy was depleted, Yagawa Ryoka lay motionless on the floor. Her clothes were smoldering, emitting a pungent, charred stench that mingled with the lingering smoke from the grenades.
Watching the fallen girl, Kanzaki Rin sneered. How could she possibly fall for such a cheap trick?
She raised her hand and snapped her fingers.
Flames erupted from thin air at the sound of the snap, the light dispelling the smoke and illuminating the living room.
Yagawa Ryoka was engulfed in an instant, turning into a human torch.
Fortunately, she was far enough from the surrounding furniture that the room didn't immediately turn into an inferno.
"Ah!"
Yagawa Ryoka screamed as the flames licked at her.
Unable to play dead any longer, she sprang up from the floor and lunged at Kanzaki Rin, wreathed in fire.
Kanzaki Rin retreated calmly, slammed the empty stun gun into Yagawa Ryoka's face, and snapped her fingers again.
Flames spewed from her fingertips, slamming into Yagawa Ryoka's body and exploding in a brilliant shower of sparks.
Yagawa Ryoka's momentum remained unchecked, and in a heartbeat, she was right in front of Kanzaki Rin.
Kanzaki Rin whipped out a silver combat knife and thrust it toward Yagawa Ryoka's chest.
The two collided heavily, tumbling to the ground in a tangled heap.
Relying on her expert combat training, Kanzaki Rin managed to pin Yagawa Ryoka beneath her.
Yagawa Ryoka was still burning, but Kanzaki Rin's gas mask and tactical suit were fire-resistant, leaving her unfazed by the heat.
She felt the blade sink into flesh, but a glance downward revealed that Yagawa Ryoka had caught the knife with her palm.
The blade had pierced through her hand, the tip just barely grazing her chest.
Kanzaki Rin pushed down with all her might, but Yagawa Ryoka's hand clamped onto hers, holding the strike at bay.
Though Yagawa Ryoka's body was charred black by the flames, her wounds were healing at a visible rate.
The blackened skin smoothed over, and her singed hair began to sprout anew.
In the blink of an eye, Yagawa Ryoka's delicate, pretty face was restored.
Only now, that lovely face was twisted into a savage, beast-like expression as she glared at Kanzaki Rin.
Ignoring the madness in Yagawa Ryoka's eyes, Kanzaki Rin had only one thought in her mind: to force the blade down and kill this vampire.
She threw her entire body weight into the effort, channeling every ounce of her strength into the small knife.
Yet, the blade refused to sink further; instead, it began to inch upward.
Kanzaki Rin was no weakling—she was stronger than the average adult male and could split a brick with a single palm strike.
But after feeding several times since her transformation, Yagawa Ryoka's strength had increased significantly, far surpassing that of a normal human like Kanzaki Rin.
In this raw test of strength, Kanzaki Rin was undoubtedly losing.
As the blade tip cleared her chest, Yagawa Ryoka flashed a mocking smile and heaved her limbs, easily throwing Kanzaki Rin off her body.
Kanzaki Rin rolled aside and scrambled to her feet, quickly regaining her stance.
Yagawa Ryoka pounced, landing a heavy punch square in her stomach.
Kanzaki Rin grunted, fighting through the searing pain to lash out with her knife, but Yagawa Ryoka easily caught her wrist and sent her flying with a shoulder throw.
Kanzaki Rin soared across the living room and crashed into the refrigerator, knocking it over and sending groceries spilling across the floor.
She struggled to sit up, leaning against the fridge as she gasped for air.
Looking up, she saw Yagawa Ryoka standing right before her.
Kanzaki Rin tried to snap her fingers, but Yagawa Ryoka kicked her hand away.
She bent down, grabbed Kanzaki Rin by the throat, and hoisted her off the ground, tearing off her mask to reveal a flushed, reddened face.
Yagawa Ryoka paused for a moment. She had known Kanzaki Rin's gender, but she hadn't expected the face beneath the mask to be so beautiful.
"What a cute face."
Yagawa Ryoka reached out to stroke Kanzaki Rin's cheek, smiling. "If I were to scar it, I wonder how many boys would be heartbroken?"
Sharp nails grazed Kanzaki Rin's smooth skin, making her hair stand on end and goosebumps erupt all over her body.
Kanzaki Rin's terrified expression excited Yagawa Ryoka, who couldn't help but lick her lips.
Just as she was mentally brainstorming how to torture the girl who dared to interrupt her fun, she suddenly noticed Kanzaki Rin's gaze shift to one of relief, as if she were no longer afraid.
Yagawa Ryoka blinked in curiosity: "Little sister, are you not afraid of me?"
Kanzaki Rin sneered, forcing out a single sentence: "Do you know... what it means... for a villain to die from talking too much?"
Yagawa Ryoka froze for a split second, her keen vision catching her own reflection in Kanzaki Rin's pupils—along with a dark shadow looming behind her.
In that instant, Yagawa Ryoka's heart skipped a beat.
She spun around violently, only to see a fist rapidly enlarging in her field of vision.
"BANG!"
The punch, accompanied by the sound of tearing air, slammed heavily into Yagawa Ryoka's face with a dull, crisp thud.
Half of Yagawa Ryoka's face instantly split open, the cheekbone beneath the flesh shattering into pieces like broken porcelain.
She was sent flying horizontally, her head slamming into the kitchen stove and erupting in a spray of blood.
"Cough, cough..."
Kanzaki Rin collapsed to the floor as well, clutching her throat and coughing, yet her eyes remained fixed on Fang Cheng, who stood before her.
When she had stormed in, she had assumed Fang Cheng was already dead.
After all, she had seen with her own eyes on the drone's live feed as Yagawa Ryoka ripped out his heart.
She had consulted the internal files of the Disaster Countermeasure Department and knew that for vampires to hunt their own kind, they had to extract and consume the target's heart.
And for the one who had their heart removed, there was absolutely no possibility of survival.
Yet, this guy had once again defied her expectations; he was still hopping around despite having his heart ripped out by one of his own.
Fang Cheng was rubbing his fist. He had put his full strength into that punch, and while the results were good, he had also scraped the skin off his knuckles.
Noticing Kanzaki Rin's gaze, Fang Cheng looked over, his expression shifting instantly as he hurried over and reached out a hand.
Kanzaki Rin did not refuse, extending her own hand as well.
Fang Cheng pushed her aside and crouched in front of the refrigerator, letting out a wail: "Which bastard did this?"
All the ingredients from the fridge had fallen out and mixed together, having been trampled on several times, and dozens of eggs were smashed all over the floor.
His heart ached; the money for these groceries had come from selling a kidney, so how could they be wasted like this?
Kanzaki Rin: (°ー°〃)
