The distance between them closed rapidly.
Kuroishi Yuto ignored the silver sword thrusting toward him. A vampire's heart was its weak point; its head wasn't, so there was no need to defend it.
He swept his outstretched arms forward. Ten slender crystalline spikes completely enveloped Kanzaki Rin.
That strike would be enough to cut Kanzaki Rin into more than a dozen pieces.
Just then, an unexpected change occurred.
A dull whooshing sound suddenly reached their ears. A thick crystal spike flew through the air and slammed into Kuroishi Yuto, sending him hurtling away.
Fang Cheng shot past Kanzaki Rin and chased after Kuroishi Yuto.
Kanzaki Rin's silver sword pierced empty air, and she stood frozen in place.
She had once again teetered on the brink of death. By the time she came to her senses, her courage had ebbed away like a tide, and cold sweat had covered her from head to toe.

Without Kanzaki Rin creating an opening, it really would have been hard to get near Kuroishi Yuto.
Once he was close enough, Fang Cheng grabbed Kuroishi Yuto and yanked him back, then slammed a fist into his stomach, sending him flying upward.
The next moment, Fang Cheng went all out. His fists blurred as he swung them, raining down punches more densely than falling raindrops, all landing on Kuroishi Yuto.
If there were a voice-over, this would be the moment for a stirring, earth-shaking roar.
Kuroishi Yuto was beaten senseless, stars flashing in his eyes. All he could see were endless waves of fists.

Kuroishi Yuto, now a Blood Man, let out a howl and suddenly clamped both arms around Fang Cheng. The crystals on his hands sank deep into Fang Cheng's body.
The blood in his chest cavity hardened too, turning into slender spikes that stabbed into Fang Cheng's arm and riddled it with holes.
At the same time, Kuroishi Yuto opened his bloody maw and lunged for Fang Cheng's head.
Fang Cheng hurriedly raised a hand and clamped it around Kuroishi Yuto's neck, stopping that gaping mouth right in front of him. He could clearly see the rows of razor-sharp teeth inside.
The two of them were locked together, each holding the other in place.
"Quick! I've got his heart!"

Fang Cheng, pressed right up against him, was naturally riddled with holes. And with the long crystals in the way, Kanzaki Rin couldn't get a clear shot either.
She swung her sword at the crystals with all her strength. Sparks flew, but the crystals were unharmed. Instead, a chip broke off the silver sword.
"You can't kill me."
Kuroishi Yuto roared, "But I'll kill both of you! I'll drink every drop of your blood, eat every bit of your flesh, and crush your bones between my teeth!"
Fang Cheng glared at him and suddenly shouted, "Strike through me!"
Kuroishi Yuto had riddled him with holes, and even his heart had been hit and was bleeding heavily. If they dragged this out, he was going to die anyway.
Rather than waste a chance to come back to life, he might as well risk everything.
The instant she heard Fang Cheng's words, Kanzaki Rin understood what he meant.
Kuroishi Yuto had turned into a "sea urchin" again, leaving no way to attack him. The only opening was Fang Cheng, who was entangled with him.
Kuroishi Yuto realized this weakness too. He tried to shove Fang Cheng away, but the two of them were so tightly tangled that they were practically one.
And Fang Cheng had a death grip on his heart, leaving him unable to move it out of the way.
He cried out to Kanzaki Rin in panic, "Don't do anything reckless! Our hearts are pressed together. If I die, he won't survive either."
Kanzaki Rin had already quickly circled behind Fang Cheng. She smirked at his warning. "Thanks for the reminder."
Before her words had even faded, she gripped the silver sword with both hands and thrust it with all her might through Fang Cheng's back.
"Stop!!"
Amid Kuroishi Yuto's horrified scream, the silver sword pierced Fang Cheng's heart, passed through his chest, and plunged into Kuroishi Yuto, piercing the heart that had been desperately trying to dodge.
The moment it was struck, the heart contracted sharply. Blackness spread rapidly from the wound, soon engulfing Kuroishi Yuto's entire body.
Kuroishi Yuto remained frozen in an expression of utter horror. His skin had turned ashen, and he no longer drew breath.
The red crystals covering his body quickly turned black as well, then crumbled into black dust.
Kanzaki Rin pulled out the silver sword. With the crystals no longer holding them together, Fang Cheng and Kuroishi Yuto finally separated, and both fell onto their backs.
Kanzaki Rin hurried to catch Fang Cheng, but when she saw his face, she was startled.
His whole face was bloodless. His mouth hung slightly open, and his eyes were unfocused. He looked as if he didn't have long to live.
Kanzaki Rin asked in surprise, "Are you all right?"
She remembered that Fang Cheng wasn't afraid of silver swords, which was why she'd thrust it in without hesitation.
At Kanzaki Rin's words, Fang Cheng's eyes shifted slightly. His voice was barely audible. "I... can't make it..."
Kanzaki Rin smirked and laid him flat on the ground. "Take your time, then."
Fang Cheng didn't move at all. His breathing grew weaker and weaker, until it stopped completely.
Kanzaki Rin watched him expressionlessly. Gradually, her face began to look uneasy. She nudged him with her foot. "Get up. Quit messing around."
Fang Cheng's skin was gray and pale. He was no different from a real corpse.
"Quit messing around. What's the point of this?"
"Hey?"
Kanzaki Rin's expression finally changed.
She grabbed Fang Cheng's corpse and shook it desperately. "Hey! You said you weren't afraid! Say something!"
"Stop pretending and get up!"
"Get up!"
No matter how hard Kanzaki Rin shook him, Fang Cheng showed no sign of responding. His corpse had even grown noticeably cold.
Kanzaki Rin stared at him, her eyes vacant.
Suddenly, she sprang to her feet and rushed toward the car, which had been cut into pieces. She rummaged frantically through the wreckage and soon found a small first-aid kit.
Kanzaki Rin ran back to Fang Cheng, took out a syringe already filled with clear medicine, and plunged it into his chest.
"You're not allowed to die, do you hear me? You're not allowed to die!"

As she shouted, she injected the medicine into Fang Cheng.
