Background / History
Future Trunks comes from a timeline that survived the Androids and prevented Majin Buu from emerging, only to be devastated by Goku Black. With most of humanity gone, Trunks avoids revealing his ki while moving through the ruins. His mother Bulma gathers enough Time Machine fuel for a single trip, hoping he can seek Goku and Vegeta's help in the past 81 84 85.
He arrives unconscious and injured near present-day Bulma's home, where his younger self helps rescue him. On waking, he mistakes Goku for Goku Black and attacks before recognizing him. Trunks then explains the threat to the group; Beerus and Whis warn that his unauthorized time travel is a serious offense 82 83 84.
After Goku Black follows him into the present, Trunks urges Goku to stop the enemy from returning to the future. Luya saves the Time Machine from Black's attack, preserving their means of return 89. While Bulma refuels and repairs it, Trunks trains with Vegeta and Luya. He also visits present-day Gohan, whose peaceful family life reminds him of what he wants for his own future 90 91 92 93.
Trunks returns with Goku and Vegeta, but Goku Black's Super Saiyan Rosé form and Zamasu's immortality overwhelm them. After a retreat to a survivors' hideout, they try to escape in the Time Machine and are ambushed again. Luya subsequently joins the battle; Trunks continues fighting Zamasu and later his fused form alongside the others 94 95 102 103 104 108 113.
Appearance
Future Trunks is a young man with short blue hair and features resembling Vegeta. When first seen fleeing Goku Black, his clothes are tattered, he is visibly wounded, and he carries a sword on his back 81.

Personality
Trunks is determined to save his timeline but painfully aware that he cannot defeat Goku Black alone. His mother's death intensifies his hatred of Black, while Vegeta challenges his assumption that stronger allies can solve the crisis for him 81 85 91.
He is protective of his companions and quick to act when they are threatened. He fears losing the Time Machine, helps carry his injured father from battle, and keeps fighting Zamasu despite severe injuries 89 95 100.
