Background / History
Luya first appears with a combat power of 100 million but poor control over his own ki. Gohan defeats him in their first exchange, forcing Luya to adapt; he transforms into a Super Saiyan and earns Kamehameha and Instant Transmission from his system after the sparring mission concludes. 2
After training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Luya accepts Dende’s request to confront Frieza. He targets Sorbet first to remove Frieza’s outside interference, then defeats Frieza and receives major system rewards, including Super Saiyan 3, Frieza Cells, Senzu Beans, and an upgraded Kaioken. 5 7 17
Although he initially lacks a permanent home, Luya stays at the Lookout with Dende’s permission and repeatedly uses the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to improve his ki control. He later admits that he feels detached from the larger group and ultimately chooses not to return to his original world because he lacks a sense of belonging there. 24 61 120
Appearance
Luya’s ordinary appearance is only briefly described as handsome and dashing. His physical changes are most clearly documented through his transformations. 205
- Super Saiyan — golden hair and a golden aura. 198
- Super Saiyan God Red — red aura, red hair, and red pupils; its divine ki cannot be sensed normally. 200
- Super Saiyan God Fourth Stage — long wild red hair, red eyelids, red fur over his upper body, an exposed muscular chest, and a red tail. 172
Personality
Luya is intensely competitive and seeks powerful opponents as a means of improving himself. He willingly fights Gohan, Frieza, Goku, Hit, Jiren, Anilaza, and Broly, often treating difficult battles as opportunities to refine his techniques and reactions. 2 19 50 168 180 208
He is also confident to the point of provocation. Luya taunts opponents such as Cell, Super 17, Syn Shenron, and Frieza, and openly asserts that his power surpasses other Saiyans. 122 130 198 207
Despite this arrogance, Luya shows sportsmanship and protectiveness. He restores Hit with a Senzu Bean so they can fight fairly, saves Goku from Goku Black, rescues Caulifla and Kale from Buun, and remains behind in the ruined future to finish Zamasu rather than leave humanity at risk. 49 105 118 150
Whis identifies Luya’s greatest flaw as overthinking during combat. Luya recognizes that his system-granted power has developed faster than his instinctive control and commits himself to improving. 96

Saiyan Transformations
Luya possesses an unusually broad range of Saiyan forms, from Super Saiyan through Super Saiyan 3, Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Red, and Super Saiyan God Fourth Stage. 2 17 79 98 172

- Majin Buu-style regeneration lets him reconstruct his body after severe fragmentation; Luya describes the pain as brief. 160
