I Regret It

"It seems I was still being too gentle." Li Shu sighed, and his gaze at the eight men gradually turned cold.

He had lost patience and decided to kill them outright. Even if it created a rift between him and Wukong, he was willing to pay that price.

Just then, the blare of sirens sounded in the distance.

Two police cars raced over and came to a stop in front of Li Shu and the others with a sharp drift.

"Who called the police?" A male and a female officer got out of the cars. The male officer took out a small notebook and asked.

The female officer surveyed the area. When she saw the bloodstained letters covering the ground and the eight thugs, she immediately understood what had happened. She waved a hand and said, "It doesn't matter who called. These guys are repeat offenders. Take them all in."

When Yellow Hair and the others, still slumped on the ground, saw the police, they grew excited, as if they were looking at their own parents.

"Yes, yes! We called the police on ourselves. Hurry up and lock us away!" Yellow Hair seemed to have spotted his savior. He grabbed the male officer's hand and urged him again and again.

The others were no different. They couldn't wait to be arrested.

"Ding! Achievement mission chain 'Punish the Evil and Promote the Good': current progress 2/300. Once the progress is complete, you will receive the reward: [Great Hero] title, and +5000 achievement points!"

Li Shu couldn't help staring. He'd already completed it?

But the progress seemed a little off. There were eight people here, so why had the progress only gone up by one?

After thinking it over, Li Shu understood. Punishing evil and promoting good wasn't counted by the number of people, but by the number of incidents.

As long as he dealt with one wicked act, it should count as one completed mission.

"Looks like I overcomplicated things from the start. If I'd known, I would've just called the police." Li Shu couldn't help giving a wry smile.

The female officer walked over and asked him a few simple questions before quickly taking the eight men away.

After it was all over, the restaurant owner ran out excitedly and thanked Li Shu. "Sir, you've done something truly great."

"That's right. After this lesson, they shouldn't dare cause trouble again," another resident said.

"You're our hero."

The residents came out one after another, showering Li Shu with praise without holding back.

To thank him for driving away the troublemakers, they each brought out gifts for him.

The restaurant owner was the most earnest. He insisted on refunding Li Shu's meal, even though it had cost a whopping five hundred thousand.

Wukong stared blankly at the scene. From what he'd just learned, he now knew what the evildoers had done, and it was truly despicable.

He could understand his big brother's actions a little better. Even if his big brother had killed those men, he wouldn't have thought he was wrong.

Seeing Wukong's furrowed brow relax as he grinned foolishly under the residents' praise, Li Shu's mood lifted too.

After saying goodbye to the residents, Li Shu and Wukong continued flying north toward Muscle Tower.

"Big brother, can there really be people that bad in the world?" Wukong's voice was a little subdued. It seemed the incident had affected him quite a bit.

This was the first time Li Shu had seen the usually cheerful, innocent Wukong look like that. Curiosity stirred in him, and he asked, "What did they do?"

"Big brother, do you know what rape means?" Wukong asked in confusion.

"Well..." Li Shu didn't know how to explain it. Wukong was still at the stage where he could casually expose his little bird without feeling embarrassed, and he knew nothing about this sort of thing. Even if Li Shu tried to explain, Wukong probably wouldn't understand.

It would take a lot of time to give Wukong the talk, and Li Shu couldn't be bothered. Back in their day, they'd all figured it out on their own.

"Big brother doesn't know either?" Wukong asked, disappointed. Then he continued, "The residents said those evildoers once raped an old woman..."

"Pfft!" Li Shu couldn't hold it in. He stared at Wukong in disbelief. They'd raped an old woman?

"The rape left the old woman deeply traumatized. She later chose to kill herself."

"They also stole the money a father had set aside to save his daughter's life. The little girl died in the hospital because she couldn't afford treatment. Later, the father went to confront them, but they humiliated him terribly, and then he killed himself."

Wukong went on and on while Li Shu listened quietly beside him.

From Wukong's account, Yellow Hair and his gang had committed more evil deeds than could be listed.

Li Shu had lived through the big-data era, so he'd already heard about plenty of crimes like these. The only thing that seemed completely outrageous was the rape of an old woman.

So when he heard about their crimes, he wasn't all that shaken. He just regretted not ignoring Wukong's feelings and killing those scum right away.

If he killed them first and explained later, Wukong should be able to understand, right?

After all these years together, Li Shu had long since come to regard Wukong as his own little brother. He cared a lot about what Wukong thought of him.

"Wukong, I regret it now. I want to turn around and kill them. Will you come with me?" Li Shu interrupted Wukong, speaking seriously.

Wukong fell silent for a moment, then nodded. "Big brother, I can't bring myself to kill them, but I want to teach them a lesson with my own hands."

Li Shu smiled. Under his influence, Wukong's personality seemed to have changed in a subtle way.

Then the two of them turned around and sped after the police cars.

"Wukong, they're in police cars now, so the nature of this has changed. We can't reveal our identities." Li Shu looked down from above, his voice full of murderous intent.

Wukong nodded, seeming to understand. Li Shu raised a hand, and a full moon slowly rose into the sky.

"Transform. You go first. I'll take care of things afterward."

The two police cars raced along the road, each carrying four prisoners.

In the police car driven by the female officer, Yellow Hair shouted, "Officer Jing, we go way back. You know that even if you take us in, we'll only get a few days for disturbing the peace. Why not let us go now? It'd save everyone some trouble."

"Besides, I want to report a crime! That man was the one beating us up. We're the victims."

"Call for backup and arrest him too! He's strong. The two of you probably can't take him down."

"Shut up!" Yellow Hair's incessant chatter had worn the female officer out.

Honestly, she felt helpless dealing with thugs like these.

She arrested them every few days, only for them to be released and arrested again. She was sick of it too, and wished she could just shoot the bastards.

But there were rules she had to follow. She couldn't do that.

She kept wondering when those bastards would finally run into someone tougher than them and get beaten to death!

Then she could take a call about the incident and go collect the bodies. That would be so satisfying.
