Background
Wukong is Li Shu's younger brother and the grandson of Son Gohan. While Li Shu is missing for over a month, Wukong uses a Dragon Ball wish in an attempt to locate him; Shenron can only confirm that Li Shu is alive. Wukong is overjoyed when his brother later returns safely. 10 11
He trains under Master Roshi with Krillin. Although Li Shu initially judges Wukong's strength by combat power, Wukong's growth repeatedly exceeds expectations, particularly when he uses difficult fights to improve himself rather than immediately overwhelming weaker opponents. 12 13 26
At the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament, Wukong reaches the final against Li Shu. He uses his tail in coordinated attacks, unleashes a Kamehameha in Great Ape form, and fights for nearly an hour despite being physically overmatched. He ultimately collapses from exhaustion and loses by a narrow margin. 27 28 30 31
After the tournament, Wukong joins Li Shu in collecting the Dragon Balls. Li Shu teaches him the Flight Technique, which Wukong masters far earlier than expected. Their journey later brings them into conflict with the Red Ribbon Army at Muscle Tower. 33 39 43
Appearance
Wukong is a tailed Saiyan who can transform into a gigantic ape under a full moon.
- Possesses a prehensile tail, which he trains for combat use. 28
- Becomes a fur-covered Great Ape during transformation. 30
- His Great Ape transformation destroys his clothing. 30 42

Personality
Wukong is cheerful, direct, and intensely enthusiastic about martial arts. He seeks full-power fights with Li Shu and willingly endures pain to improve, even when he could win more easily. 26 27
He is initially naïve about cruelty and evil. Li Shu's harsh treatment of criminals unsettles him because he believes a warning may be enough; after learning of the criminals' actions, however, he agrees to help teach them a lesson, though he remains reluctant to kill. 40 41
Wukong cares deeply for Li Shu. He worries when his brother disappears, consistently calls him “Big Brother,” and eagerly follows him on the Dragon Ball journey and in his ambition to become a hero. 9 11 33 43
