Coulson frowned. Nick Fury had originally tasked him with keeping an eye on William, but the moment he let his guard down, the guy had vanished. This made Coulson quite anxious, as he feared William might be up to something again.
Fortunately, he found William, but why was he just walking out of a random room?
"I was looking for the restroom, but I think I took a wrong turn," William said, lying through his teeth.
Coulson paused, thinking to himself, Do you really think I'd believe that? However, he said aloud, "Director Fury has something for you. We have a new mission."
"What kind of mission?" William asked curiously.
Coulson thought for a moment and replied, "It seems to involve a big, green guy."
"A big, green guy?" William's eyes lit up. If he wasn't mistaken, this description had to be referring to the Hulk.
The Hulk: a synonym for destruction and invincibility.
He was hailed as the strongest Avenger, possessing terrifying power capable of leveling a city in an instant.
Bruce Banner, a genius physicist, was exposed to Gamma Radiation during an accident. This radiation should have easily claimed his life, but another entity saved him, causing his life to undergo a cataclysmic change.
The Gamma Radiation turned him into a monster named Hulk. This monster was immensely strong and nearly invincible, yet incredibly dangerous.
Whenever Bruce became angry—or rather, when his rage reached a certain threshold—he would transform into the terrifying Hulk and destroy everything in his path.
The Hulk possessed superhuman strength, storm-like speed, and impenetrable defense. He could lift objects weighing hundreds of tons, and his skin was impervious to blades, bullets, and explosions. He was fast on his feet, had immense leaping ability, and could even unleash shockwaves with his palms that packed massive power.
This near-invincible ability was tied to his emotions; the angrier he became, the stronger he grew. Rage was the source of his power. That was why, whenever Bruce faced people, he would always warn them:
"Don't make me angry."
Coulson brought William into Director Fury's office. After Nick Fury exchanged greetings with William, he began briefing him on the Hulk—from his origin to his abilities and his inherent danger.
Of course, William already knew all of this.
A large screen on the wall was playing footage of the Hulk surrounded by the military. Bullets and artillery shells rained down on him, but to him, these attacks were nothing more than a light tickle.
He let out an angry roar, and the military's defenses crumbled instantly. He picked up a tank and hurled it forward, and then the screen went black.
"My god, what kind of monster is that!" William exclaimed.
He wasn't faking it. He had only ever seen the Hulk's rampages in movies or comics before, but seeing the footage in reality, he couldn't help but swallow hard.
If you asked who the most dangerous member of the Avengers was, it was definitely this big guy. Thor might be stubborn, but he could still be reasoned with.
But try reasoning with the Hulk? Heh.
Following the events of Iron Man, the plot of The Incredible Hulk would soon begin. Compared to the Hulk, Iron Monger was small fry. If he could help it, William really didn't want to fight the Hulk.
[Main Quest Initiated!] [Main Quest: The Incredible Hulk] [Objective 1: Travel to Bruce Banner's hideout and engage the Hulk in combat!]
Just as William was lost in his thoughts, Athena's voice echoed in his ears.
He froze instantly. Damn it, Athena, are you doing this on purpose? I was just thinking about how I didn't want to fight the Hulk, and you trigger the main quest? Do you have a grudge against me?
"Ever since the Hulk disappeared, the military has been tracking his trail," Nick Fury said. "The military wants us at S.H.I.E.L.D. to help them find this terrifying monster."
"You want me to capture him?" William's brow furrowed.
He knew that Nick Fury hadn't brought him here today just to watch videos.
"We haven't agreed to the military's request yet, as you can see how powerful the Hulk is," Nick Fury continued. "What do you think your chances of winning would be if you fought the Hulk?"
Uh... what are my chances? Infinite... infinitely close to zero, that is.
He currently only had the heroes Soldier: 76 and Hanzo. He didn't think Pulse Bullets or arrows would be able to shake the Hulk's defenses.
Perhaps the Dragon Spirit could inflict damage on the Hulk, but he'd likely be tossed around like Loki long before he could charge up his energy.
Of course, he couldn't say that out loud. Despite his internal struggle, he replied, "I'd estimate it's a fifty-fifty chance."
"As expected of Overwatch, the great savior and traveler from the future," Nick Fury said with a smile. "It seems I have no choice but to entrust the capture of the Hulk to you."
William always felt that Nick Fury's smile had a sinister edge to it. Hey, hey, don't go pinning labels on me.
Since the main quest had already begun, there was no escaping it. Even if he couldn't beat the Hulk, he had to fight. Even if he couldn't win, he had to lose with style.
"Director Fury," William said with a solemn expression. "Didn't you say the Avengers need a dangerous individual like me to handle extraordinary threats? Do you think the Hulk is dangerous enough?"
Hearing William say this, Nick Fury was taken aback. He had never considered having the Hulk join the Avengers.
After all, the Hulk was too dangerous and impossible to control. His plan had always been to capture the Hulk and lock him away in a prison forever.
But William's words reminded him: the more dangerous the individual, the more terrifying their power. If they could truly get the Hulk to join the Avengers, the team's strength would be unprecedented!
"Do you have a plan?" Nick Fury asked, his expression turning serious.
"I do have a plan," William said with a mysterious smile, "but I'll need your help."
Nick Fury had brought William here ostensibly to have him capture the Hulk, but in reality, he wanted to further understand the man's mysterious powers. Facing the Hulk, William would certainly have to go all out, as the big guy wouldn't be interested in talking.
William claimed to be from the future and possessed the ability to transform into Overwatch heroes. From a soldier to an archer, Nick Fury was very curious about what other secrets this guy was hiding from them.
After seeing William off, Nick Fury summoned Coulson. "Well? Has he shown any abnormalities lately?"
"He's been acting sneaky," Coulson said, scratching his head. "He's been learning a lot of agent skills and knowledge from me these past few days, and then he just vanished out of nowhere. I don't know what he's up to."
"This guy is definitely trouble."
"Sir, are we really going to help William?" Coulson asked.
Nick Fury's single eye gleamed. "Isn't General Ross recruiting a Hulk-busting team? This is a perfect opportunity. I'm very much looking forward to the battle between William and the Hulk. What a spectacle that will be!"
