Bruce had been searching for a way to cure himself, to make the terrifying Hulk vanish forever. He had tried all sorts of methods, but every time he thought he was close to success, he would fall short at the final hurdle.
Gamma Rays were like an incurable virus, entangling him at every waking moment.
Until today, he had finally found a glimmer of hope for a cure, but he never expected the Hulkbuster Team to show up at his door. He had no idea how they had found him, but right now, only one word mattered: run!
When the Hulkbuster Team rushed down, Bruce was already nowhere to be seen. They split up, each heading toward a different street to seal off all of Bruce's escape routes.
The sky grew brighter as the sleeping Rio de Janeiro began to wake. People rose one after another to start their busy day, which increased the difficulty of the Hulkbuster Team's patrol, as a single moment of inattention could mean brushing past their target.
William yawned again, regretting his decision to join this operation. Since they were going to find the Hulk and fight him anyway, why join as part of the Hulkbuster Team?
If he had known he would be this sleepy, he would have found a place to get some shut-eye first and made a stylish entrance later.
Unlike the listless William, Blonsky was full of energy. Having been in the military for so many years, he had seen his fair share of storms, and staying up for days without sleep was nothing new to him. Moreover, he sensed that something was off about this mission, though he couldn't quite put his finger on what.
It seemed their operation wasn't as simple as he had imagined.
Suddenly, at the end of the street, he spotted a figure. The man was wearing a hat and a red hoodie, walking forward with a backpack. The brim of his hat was pulled low, and he walked with cautious steps, as if terrified of being seen.
The moment Blonsky saw the man, the man saw him too. Without hesitation, the target took off running!
"There he is, catch him!" Blonsky shouted, immediately giving chase.
General Ross's order came through the radio: "The arrest operation has officially begun. You must capture him!"
The members of the Hulkbuster Team swarmed after Bruce, with Blonsky in the lead, his eyes locked firmly on his target.
Bruce had lived in these Slums for over half a year and was long familiar with the terrain; he had even planned out his escape routes.
The entire Slums contained hundreds of streets of all shapes and sizes, along with various forks in the road; if you weren't careful, you could easily get lost.
"Sir, I think I'm lost," William said helplessly into the radio.
He couldn't be blamed for this. General Ross had distributed a map of the Slums' terrain to everyone for this capture operation, and William certainly had one, but he couldn't make heads or tails of it.
After all, his status as a Navy SEAL was a sham, and he had never been good at high school geography; reading a map like this was like reading a heavenly book.
"What?" General Ross couldn't believe his ears. An elite Navy SEAL soldier was actually getting lost?
If word got out, the whole team would laugh at him. However, Ross had no time to deal with William right now; his attention was entirely focused on Bruce.
"Don't you have a map? Look at it yourself!" General Ross replied dismissively.
William thought to himself that if he could understand the map, he wouldn't be asking. Just then, a gunshot rang out nearby. He knew it must have been the Hulkbuster Team firing, so he immediately sprinted in the direction of the sound.
Blonsky had assumed he would catch Bruce quickly, but he soon realized he was wrong.
Although the guy looked thin and weak, he was agile and fast, and even Blonsky could barely keep up. Furthermore, because the target was familiar with the terrain, he dodged and weaved, acting so cunningly that he had them running in circles.
After a frantic chase, they reached a massive rooftop covered in colorful drying sheets. Bruce crashed through the sheets and kept sprinting, and the members of the Hulkbuster Team followed suit, crashing through the laundry.
However, one unlucky soldier didn't see that he had reached the edge, stepped into thin air, and fell from the roof.
Rooftop Parkour, an extreme sport originating in France, uses the everyday environment as a venue, overcoming various obstacles, weaving through streets, and leaping between rooftops.
Having been on the run for so many years, Bruce had not only learned yoga but also Rooftop Parkour; after all, jumping from one roof to another was the fastest way to travel.
Bruce gripped the rooftop railing with both hands and vaulted to the lower level. He then kicked off the wall twice to climb onto another roof, leaped down, rolled upon landing, and continued sprinting forward.
The sequence of movements was dazzling. The Hulkbuster Team couldn't keep up with him at all, and even Blonsky felt the fatigue; he wasn't young anymore, and his stamina couldn't match these youngsters. He watched as Bruce ran further and further away.
"Sir, we're going to lose him," Blonsky said, his tone dejected.
Just as Bruce thought he was about to escape, a person stood on a nearby rooftop. The man wore black body armor, his blonde hair shining brightly in the sun, and he raised a tranquilizer gun, aiming at him.
Bang! A tranquilizer dart whistled through the air. Bruce dodged instinctively, and the dart grazed past his shoulder.
While dodging the dart, Bruce turned and ran. The man on the roof didn't rush to pursue, but instead smiled slightly: "Sprint!"
William had finally managed to find his way, and he hadn't expected to see Bruce sprinting by so soon. Although his shot had missed, he had found his target.
Sprint: Young man, your speed has increased. You can perform a rapid dash for a short period to evade fire or charge into enemy lines. Note: Jumping while sprinting allows you to leap further.
Bruce didn't dare stop, continuing to sprint forward; he wanted to get out of these Slums as quickly as possible.
He thought he had shaken off the Hulkbuster Team, but to his surprise, he heard a rhythmic thumping of footsteps behind him. He looked back and saw that the man had caught up to him out of nowhere.
He jumped onto a rooftop, hoping to use his parkour advantage to lose the pursuer.
To his shock, the man was not only fast, but every stride was incredibly long. Even large gaps were no obstacle; a distance of five or six meters was nothing to him.
"What the hell? Who is this guy?"
Bruce was astonished. As a physicist, he was well-versed in mathematics, and a quick glance told him that the man's speed was beyond anything a normal human could imagine.
Moreover, the man could clearly catch him with ease, yet he seemed to be intentionally keeping his distance.
People said that Bruce was a terrifying monster after he transformed, but he felt that this man was a monster, too!
After all, the author has no sense of direction~
