Before he knew it, Bruce had reached the factory where he usually worked. He looked back, but the figure from moments ago was nowhere to be seen; it seemed he had finally shaken him off.
Bruce's heart was pounding like a war drum. He checked the reading on his pulse monitor: it had already hit 180. Once this number exceeded 200, he would transform into the Hulk.
Feel the tranquility... Bruce recalled the yoga he had learned, struggling to calm himself down. Finally, the pulse monitor reading dropped to 150.
He knew this place was no longer safe. He had to leave Rio de Janeiro immediately and find a new place to hide.
But before he could even run out of the factory gate, he collided head-on with someone, nearly knocking the man to the ground.
"Are you blind or something?" the man snapped, turning around with a vicious glare.
"Oh no, don't mess with me," Bruce said, his expression one of helpless resignation.
The man before him was a local bully who also worked at the factory. This bully had been constantly harassing a young woman at work, and Bruce had once intervened to save her, which had made the man extremely resentful.
Why was Bruce running into him here tonight? Because he was stealing drinks from the factory, and this wasn't the first time.
Bruce saw the drinks in the man's hands and had no desire to meddle, but two people grabbed him from behind. Naturally, a thief wouldn't be working alone; the bully had brought two lackeys along.
"We meet again, you little punk," the bully said with a cruel expression.
Bruce looked around, trying to find an opportunity to escape. It wasn't that he feared these thugs, but he was worried that the Hulkbuster Team would track him here.
However, the bully had no intention of letting him go. The two lackeys stepped forward to grab Bruce's arms, and the bully yanked hard, snapping the strap of Bruce's backpack and tossing it aside.
"My computer!" Bruce exclaimed. His computer contained vital data—the key to curing Gamma Radiation.
The two men acted viciously, slamming him hard against the wall. The bully walked over and said coldly, "I've hated your guts for a long time. Running into us here today? That's your bad luck!"
Bruce struggled desperately, trying to break free from their grip. At the same time, his heart began to race, and the numbers on his pulse monitor steadily climbed.
"Don't make me angry," Bruce said, fighting to suppress the rage in his heart. "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!"
The bully wore an indifferent expression. "You're scary when you're angry? I'm the one who's scary when I'm angry. Teach him a lesson!"
"Are you sure he's inside?" Blonsky asked.
"I saw him run in," William nodded and said.
Right at the factory entrance, the Hulkbuster Team had successfully converged.
The arrest operation began. Bruce used his familiarity with the terrain and his parkour skills to leave them far behind.
Blonsky had been convinced they were about to lose his trail, but he hadn't expected William to keep tracking him and providing information, allowing them to gather at the factory gate.
Blonsky hadn't paid much attention to this blond young man before, but now he felt that William was likely the fittest of all these youngsters; he hadn't shown a hint of fatigue after such a long chase.
Unlike the rest of the Hulkbuster Team, who were gasping for air as if they were about to collapse, it made him think of his own younger self ten years ago.
Of course, if he knew William was using a Sprint cheat, he probably wouldn't be thinking that.
"Everyone, put on your night-vision goggles! Fire as soon as you spot the target!" Blonsky ordered. The factory was dim and visibility was poor, so the team donned their goggles and moved forward with rifles raised.
But they hadn't gone far when they heard a commotion nearby. They hurried over and, peering through a shattered glass window, saw Bruce being beaten by the bully and his two henchmen.
"That's for sticking your nose where it doesn't belong!"
The bully kicked Bruce in the back, and the two lackeys joined in with a flurry of punches and kicks. Bruce curled up, shielding his head with his hands. His heart was beating faster and faster, and the pulse monitor was nearing its limit.
Just then, Bruce saw something through a broken window behind him: a line of men in black, fully armed and wearing night-vision goggles. More importantly, their guns were already aimed at them!
"You have no idea what's about to happen. Trust me, you'll regret this," Bruce said, wiping blood from the corner of his mouth.
"I'll regret it?" The bully looked at him with disdain. "You're the one who should be regretting this!"
As he spoke, he slammed a fist into Bruce's face. Bruce collapsed to the ground with a heavy thud. The air echoed with the arrogant laughter of the bully and his lackeys; they had no idea what they had just done.
198... 199... 200!
The alarm on the pulse monitor was piercing. The moment the number crossed 200, Bruce, who had been lying unconscious on the ground, suddenly snapped his eyes open.
They were green eyes, like a wild beast waking from its slumber.
"Now do you know what happens when you mess with me?" the bully sneered, moving to kick Bruce again.
But he never expected his kick to feel like it had struck an iron plate. Before he could even react, something in the darkness seemed to grab his leg and drag him into the shadows!
"What just happened?" Blonsky looked surprised. Even with their night-vision goggles, they hadn't been able to see clearly, so he had to take them off.
A faint smile curled on William's lips; he knew the real show was about to begin.
The bully's two lackeys were equally bewildered. They stepped forward nervously, and just then, a dark shadow flew out from the gloom—it was their boss!
The bully screamed as he was hurled through the air like a baseball, crashing through a glass pane and slamming hard against the wall.
"ROAR!"
With a sound like the roar of a beast, a massive figure emerged from the darkness. The two lackeys were terrified and scrambled to flee. Blonsky raised his gun to aim—or rather, to aim at the thing that was chasing them.
One of the lackeys, who was slower than the other, was snatched up by the creature. With a single scream, all that remained was one of his shoes rolling across the floor.
"What on earth is that thing?" Blonsky's expression was tense, sweat sliding down his forehead. This wasn't what he had expected; it seemed the enemy they were facing wasn't Bruce, but something else entirely.
"Sir, we have discovered an unidentified object," Blonsky reported.
"That is your target! Fire the tranquilizers immediately!" General Ross roared over the radio.
Following General Ross's order, the Hulkbuster Team launched a fierce assault, firing a rain of tranquilizer darts at the creature.
Unexpectedly, these tranquilizer darts bounced off the target as if they had struck an iron plate, the needles themselves twisting upon impact.
"Something's wrong, use live ammunition!" Blonsky shouted.
A colossal figure came charging toward them from the darkness, causing the very ground to tremble violently as the Hulkbuster Team retreated while maintaining their fire.
Bullets flew, shattering the surrounding beverage bottles, yet the enemy seemed unfazed by real lead, stepping forward until they stood right before them.
"Stay away from me..." the voice in the darkness growled, low and furious.
The Hulkbuster Team stared tensely into the gloom, and to the utter shock of everyone present, the creature finally revealed its true form!
