William had a hobby: making deals with people. He had many trading partners. Whether it was Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Avengers, Odin the All-Father, Ancient One, the Inhumans, the Sovereign, or others, they had all made deals with William.

During that trip to Hell, he and Doctor Strange had ventured into Hell to rescue Ghost Rider's girlfriend. Later, he also struck a deal with Mephisto, the lord of Hell: William would hand Red Skull's soul over to Mephisto, or else sacrifice his own soul.

After signing the contract with Mephisto, William had been searching for Red Skull's whereabouts. From the Inhumans' apocalypse, to the Spider-Verse, and finally the God of Fear, he had at last fulfilled his deal with Mephisto and handed Red Skull over to him.

He knew that devil probably would not come looking for trouble with him anytime soon.

Once the crisis of Gods' Cataclysm had ended, William had not even had time to rest. Now that the threats of Red Skull and Hydra had been completely eliminated, the only enemy they faced was the final one—the man sitting upon the throne.

Thanos had now obtained two Infinity Stones. Of the remaining stones, aside from the Soul Stone, William possessed the Space Stone, Vision had the Mind Stone, and Ancient One had used the Time Stone to seal Dormammu and its Dark Dimension in an eternal time loop.

In other words, Earth actually held three Infinity Stones. That meant Earth would become the final battlefield!
