Shangguan Yunman is first encountered in the Magic Beast Forest while badly injured, poisoned, and pursued by cultivators seeking her treasure. Luo Qingchen hides from the pursuit, then rescues her from drowning and brings her into a cave. 119 120

Luo coerces her into accepting a Blood Pact by withholding food and water. She initially resists several attempts, but eventually allows their blood and spirits to connect. The completed pact gives Luo the ability to command her and inflict pain, though Yunman retains a clear mind and openly resents the humiliation of being compelled to answer him as “A-Nu.” 120 121

After recovering, Yunman agrees to hunt Magic Beasts and protect Luo while he cultivates. Although she initially intends to escape, she returns after traveling roughly a hundred miles away, later admitting that she does not know why she came back. She also swears through the Blood Pact never to reveal Luo’s ability to absorb Magic Beast blood. 123 124
