The two rose to take their leave. Taiming saw them to the palace entrance, then stopped.

On the way back, Huang Qing and Hei Jue stood side by side in the Spatial Passage. Neither spoke first.

The four Immortal Grade Elders tactfully withdrew into the distance.

After a long silence,

Hei Jue suddenly spoke. "The Heavenly Emperor never intended to seize them by force from the beginning."

Huang Qing said nothing.

Hei Jue continued, "He offered conditions in exchange for the Supreme Spirit Sacred Body himself."

"The Endless Radiant Body... that old fox Qing Muxuan of the Buddha Ancient Clan probably gained a favor as well."

"The Eternal Immortal Body was the Mohe Ancient Clan courting death themselves. They have no one else to blame."

Huang Qing took a deep breath, finally releasing the pent-up frustration in his chest.

He said gruffly, "If we'd known earlier that the Heavenly Emperor's terms could help us reach that step, what the hell were we worried about?!"

Hei Jue glanced at Huang Qing, a sharp gleam flashing through his pitch-black eyes.

"Yes." Hei Jue's voice returned to its usual calm.

"Since that is his price, then when he takes the Desolate God Ancestral Body and the Night God Ancient Body, that should be the price as well."

"He wants Dharma Bodies, and we want breakthroughs in cultivation. A fair trade. Neither side owes the other anything."

Huang Qing chuckled twice and slapped Hei Jue on the shoulder.

His palm was immensely heavy. Hei Jue staggered half a step forward from the blow, then turned back and shot him a glare.

"I like working with people like you—straightforward!" Huang Qing laughed.
