Background / History
Founding and Ascension
Di Jun established the Demon Clan by adapting the Ancestral Dragon’s strategy of incorporating other races through transformation. Where the Ancestral Dragon promoted the transformation of the Ten Thousand Races into dragons, Di Jun promoted their transformation into demons. He also established the Heavenly Court to integrate their strength and organize the development of the Primordial World 62.
Many races refused recruitment because they had grown strong enough to resist submission. Di Jun prepared to punish them, but the emergence of the Wu Clan redirected his attention toward a new rival and slowed his integration plans 62.
After ascending to the heavens, the Demon Clan intercepted the Myriad Stars Radiance that should have reached the world below. Star essence consequently became increasingly scarce outside its territory 10.
Expulsion from the Earth
The Wu Clan’s dominance made remaining on the ground dangerous for demons. Those who refused to leave faced both open attacks from the Wu Clan and covert killings by hostile races acting under its name. These attacks left demons almost extinct across the ground territories described by Jiang Yuan 24.
Some demons nevertheless reached the East Sea Coast and sought refuge under the Human Race’s banner while fleeing Wu Clan pursuit. Ancestor Sui described their dealings with humanity as repayment of gratitude 25.
Recruitment of Human Cultivators
The Demon Clan invited human prodigies to cultivate in the Heaven Realm. Jiang Yuan regarded the invitation as an open scheme: superior resources could draw talented humans away from their original race. He insisted that participating humans remain in Emperor Xi’s Azure Heaven and argued that supplying star essence would repay kindness more directly than relocating human talent 25 26.
His later investigation revealed that fewer than one percent of the earliest unrestricted arrivals answered his summons. Most missing humans had died; others had not received the message or had joined the Demon Clan. Returned cultivators reported bullying and occasional consumption of humans by demons 82.
Jiang Yuan’s Reforms and the Yan Heaven Dispute
Jiang Yuan introduced the Plan of Ten Thousand Races Dao Body Transformation, secretly using it as a precursor to the transformation of other races into humans. Di Jun supported the proposal as a means of unifying the Demon Clan, but many demons resisted because complete Dao Body transformation could temporarily reduce their strength 83 84.
The Yan Heaven demons largely refused Jiang Yuan’s orders against theft and unjustified harm. After Lady Nuwa’s withdrawal from the clan, Jiang Yuan concluded that they had sought Di Jun’s patronage and were using an invitation to become Heavenly Lord as a provocation 85.
When Jiang Yuan eventually approached Yan Heaven, its factions split. Opponents fled to the Zhou Heaven Starry Sky, while supporters prepared to eliminate them. Jiang Yuan allowed the fugitives to leave and declined the Yan Heaven Demon Race Directory because he considered his cultivation insufficient for the responsibility it represented 111.
Legal Reform and Rapid Development
Pressure from the Wu Clan pushed Di Jun to summon the tribal Demon Gods to discuss heavenly laws. He acknowledged that the rival clan’s existence had driven the Demon Clan’s rapid development and strengthened its unity 163.
After approximately a thousand years of debate, the Heavenly Court finalized its first Heavenly Regulations. The resulting order restricted destructive fighting within Heaven and Earth and brought substantial benefits to both the Demon and Wu Clans 170 178.
Both clans subsequently entered an extended period of seclusion. During Di Jun and Taiyi’s absence, Emperor Xi and Kunpeng consolidated their influence, while the Zhou Tian Demon Gods of the Punishment Hall became resentful but remained unable to oppose Kunpeng 184.
Western Lands Blockade
Jimeng and a group of Zhou Tian Demon Gods sealed the stars under Di Jun’s orders, preventing Jiang Yuan’s Lesser Zhou Tian Star Formation from receiving stellar power. Di Jun’s stated purpose was to avoid strengthening potential enemies on the earth 199.
Emperor Xi ordered the restrictions lifted, arguing that obstructing a beneficial formation damaged the Heavenly Court’s legitimacy. The Demon Gods released enough starlight to double the formation’s conversion efficiency, then stopped the supply rather than continue sacrificing what they considered the foundation of their own power 199 200.
Witnessing this monopoly, Jieyin and Zhunti began planning to intensify the Wu–Demon conflict and obtain the Demon Clan’s resources after its decline. The karma generated by withholding starlight concealed their conspiracy from Di Jun and Taiyi 200.
Organization & Governance
Leadership and Elite Forces
| Group or position | Function and standing |
|---|---|
| Di Jun | Founder and Heavenly Emperor; controls the Demon Summoning Banner and directs major policies 62 81 199. |
| Taiyi | Eastern Sovereign and wielder of the Chaos Bell; one of the clan’s two highest-ranking figures 67 166. |
| Emperor Xi | Azure Emperor and third-ranking figure; protects Jiang Yuan and governs Azure Heaven 26 67. |
| 360 Zhou Tian Demon Gods | Specially nurtured elites, outstanding even among Daluo Golden Immortals; serve as the focal points of the Zhou Tian Star Formation 64 81. |
| Tribal Demon Gods | Represent their respective groups in negotiations over Heavenly Court policy and law 163 170. |
Heavenly Regulations
- Cultivation-based hierarchy: The first regulations retain a traditional three-level hierarchy rather than Jiang Yuan’s proposed nine-rank system 170.
- Protection within ranks: Equals are forbidden from harming, robbing, or attacking one another without cause 170.
- Unequal penalties: Offenses by higher-ranked beings against lower-ranked beings become less severe according to the difference in rank 170.
- Law Hall: Established to revise and improve the regulations 170.
- Punishment Hall: Established to enforce punishments and compel compliance 170.
- Restrictions on combat: Ordinary disputes must be endured or submitted for judgment; unrestricted fighting is permitted in the chaos beyond the world rather than within Heaven and Earth 178.
Entrenched interest groups make reform difficult. All 360 Zhou Tian Demon Gods initially volunteered for the Law Hall, seeking its Merit and Destiny while avoiding the conflict involved in punishment and enforcement 133 170.
Appearance & Composition
- No shared physical form: Members come from numerous races and lineages 67.
- Azure Heaven: Its predominantly plant-and-wood demons include green oxen, green sheep, small humanoids, and young boys 78.
- Flower demons: Appear as thumb-sized, winged flower fairies 78.
- Spiritual herb and grass demons: May take the forms of children or elderly people 78.
- Human recruits: Some humans adopt Demon Clan membership and cultivate Ancestral Return methods 82.
Abilities & Skills
Ancestral Transformation
The clan possesses 360 Ancestral Transformation Divine Methods, making its cultivation inheritance a major attraction for recruits 25.
- Ancestral Return places much of a cultivator’s strength and talent in the physical body 82.
- Complete Dao Body transformation can improve cultivation speed while slightly reducing the immediate strength of many demons 84.
- Resistance to such reductions reflects the danger of internal competition and the nearby Wu Clan 84.
Zhou Tian Star Formation
The clan’s central formation serves both military and cultivation purposes 81 198.
- Defense: Its Zhou Tian Demon Gods constitute the Heavenly Court’s last defensive line against the Wu Clan 81.
- Attack: Stellar formations can swallow and refine enemies 198.
- Resource production: The formation refines chaotic power into Creation Primordial Qi, replenishing resources despite the clan’s enormous consumption 198.
- Scaling: A stronger clan supports a stronger formation, which refines more chaotic qi and further strengthens the clan 198.
- Greater configuration: With 360 Daluo Golden Immortals and five Quasi-Saints, the Zhou Tian Star Formation can contend with Hunyuan-level experts 200.
Control of Stellar Power
The Demon Clan controls whether the Zhou Heaven stars supply power to formations below 199.
- Its monopoly makes Myriad Stars Radiance a central incentive for joining the clan 200.
- Even Di Jun cannot casually deprive the Zhou Tian Demon Gods of their starlight without risking rebellion 200.
- Withholding this resource generates hostility and karma among other living beings 24 200.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Demon Summoning Banner — Formed by Di Jun from an Innate Gourd containing Demon Clan fortune. A deposited strand of True Spirit enables revival while the banner remains intact, but places its owner’s life under Di Jun’s control. Most members submit to it; a minority protected by other powerful patrons escape this requirement 81.
- Yan Heaven Demon Race Directory — Lady Nuwa’s Jade Register and the token of Yan Heaven’s Heavenly Lord. Records inhabitants’ origins, techniques, and weaknesses without controlling their lives 111.
- Chaos Bell — Taiyi’s supreme treasure. He uses accumulated Demon Clan resources to awaken Sage-comparable power and destroy Dong Wanggong’s Purple Mansion; this display exceeds what his cultivation alone can normally sustain 166 167.
- Innate Fusang Tree and Moon Laurel Tree — Clan treasures from which Jiang Yuan can obtain fruits and branches through his Heavenly Court standing 198.
- Heavenly Prison project — The approved proposal to turn Jiang Yuan’s Myriad Star Pot into a Heavenly Prison benefits the Heavenly Court and requires Di Jun and Taiyi’s temporary absence 184.
Relationships
- Wu Clan — Mortal enemy and rival ruler of the earth. Its pressure drives Demon Clan reform; its alliances with ground races counter the demons’ numerical advantage 142 163 186.
- Human Race — Source of recruited talent and a race connected to Lady Nuwa. Training opportunities coexist with divided loyalties, bullying, and human consumption by some demons 25 82.
- Jiang Yuan / Di Yuan — Protected by Emperor Xi and influential in Heavenly Court reform. He defines his relationship with Di Jun as an equal partnership exchanging Destiny for Merit, while privately pursuing the Human Race’s interests 67 84 146.
- Lady Nuwa / Empress Wa — Former patron of Yan Heaven. Her withdrawal leaves its demons seeking replacement protection 85 111.
- Dao Ancestor — Intervened in the first great Wu–Demon war, preventing the Demon Clan’s destruction 184.
- Jieyin and Zhunti — Secretly plan to worsen the Wu–Demon rivalry and seize resources for the Western Lands after the clan’s anticipated downfall 200.
- Fierce Beasts — Regular extermination targets in the starry sky, alongside the clan’s internal struggles and battles against the Wu Clan 177.
Strength & Strategic Vulnerabilities
| Factor | Documented significance |
|---|---|
| Demon God numbers | Jimeng reports 30,000 Demon Gods, compared with the Wu Clan’s 10,000 great shamans; both clans are still developing 164. |
| Population advantage | The Demon Clan is described as having at least a million times the Wu Clan’s population, supporting overwhelming numbers among its middle and lower ranks 186. |
| Internal divisions | Its many constituent races frequently fight one another; rival interests obstruct collective reforms 67 133 170. |
| Dependence on elite cooperation | Revival control does not eliminate the risk of rebellion: without the Zhou Tian Demon Gods, Di Jun and Taiyi would lose essential support against the Wu Clan 200. |
| Restricted expansion | Emperor Xi considers Di Jun’s Hunyuan breakthrough extremely difficult while the Wu Clan remains independent 179. |
| Anticipated mutual ruin | Jiang Yuan expects the Wu and Demon Clans to destroy one another, creating the opportunity for humanity’s rise. This remains his forecast, not an accomplished event in the supplied chapters 96 179 184. |
