Background

Xiaotian was a newborn Golden-Haired Lion Mastiff when Yang Jian obtained it and gave it its name. Rather than absorb a spirit bone himself, Yang Jian fed it to Xiaotian, establishing their relationship as a partnership rather than simple ownership. The bone immediately accelerated Xiaotian's development into its juvenile stage. 14

Its growth depends heavily on devouring soul bones, a method Yang Jian and Yang Wudi quickly recognized as extraordinarily costly due to the rarity of such resources. 15 Xiaotian later absorbed a 40,000-year Sea Demon Whale right-leg bone, entering a prolonged metamorphic sleep and reaching the thousand-year spirit-beast level. 31 32

Six years after its mother's death, Xiaotian returned with Yang Jian to the valley where she had sacrificed herself. It rested beside foxtail grass growing on the site, mourning her loss. 141 During the subsequent conflict with Tang Hao, Xiaotian desperately attempted to protect Yang Jian but was unable to stop the attack alone; a larger Golden-Haired Lion Mastiff intervened, later identified as Xiaotian's father. 147 219

During their recuperation, Xiaotian recovered from its injuries and began hunting alongside its father, deepening their bond. 151 For Xiaotian's long-term development, Yang Jian left it in the Star Dou Great Forest under its father's care and provided it with another powerful soul bone. 153 This bone was recovered from Tang Hao's severed right arm; Xiaotian devoured it and fell into an energy-absorbing sleep before Yang Jian departed. 153 Their reunion later showed Xiaotian to be significantly larger, stronger, and more mature. 219 In the Beast God's secret realm, Xiaotian received the Beast God Token and entered the Ancient Tower to undertake the inheritance trial. 230 232

Nearly two years after entering the tower, Xiaotian remained within the inheritance trial but had successfully reached its fifth floor. Its father reported that the Beast God's remaining divine sense had highly praised Xiaotian's performance and expected it to eventually clear all nine floors. 289

When Yang Jian next returned to the secret realm, Xiaotian had advanced to the sixth floor, while its father had died after sacrificing himself to become Yang Jian's seventh Soul Ring. Yang Jian had already avenged his death and waited before the tower for half a month until Xiaotian emerged. Now nearly as large as its father and possessing a stronger aura, Xiaotian learned of his death and recognized traces of his soul within Yang Jian's blood-red seventh Soul Ring. Its father's illusory spirit then appeared before them. 323

Tian Meng restored the soul consciousnesses of Xiaotian's parents preserved in Yang Jian's Soul Rings, offering hope beyond their physical deaths. Xiaotian subsequently remained in the secret realm to continue pursuing the Beast God's inheritance, despite its reluctance to separate from Yang Jian again. 324

Xiaotian is a Golden-Haired Lion Mastiff whose appearance becomes increasingly imposing as it grows. Its ghost-face markings are a defining feature and became clearer as it matured. 20 65

Xiaotian is intensely attached to Yang Jian, responding to his return with open excitement and affection after long separations. 65 219 It is also protective and aggressive toward perceived threats, readily confronting opponents who insult, challenge, or endanger its companion. 18 79 107

Despite its ferocity, Xiaotian displays emotional sensitivity. It mourned its mother at the site of her death and gradually accepted its father's remorseful attempts at reconciliation. 141 150 After receiving the Beast God Token, it became notably calmer and more composed, though it remained reluctant to part from Yang Jian. 231

Xiaotian also demonstrates a strong instinct for its own home in the Star Dou Great Forest. It becomes visibly playful and uninhibited in the forest, while retaining the maturity and dominance developed under its father's training. 140 219

It enjoys attention, holding its head and tail high while attracting admiring gazes in Heaven Dou City. 100 Its intelligence also manifests as restraint: during the confrontation with Shrek, it appeared to understand human speech and deliberately waited for its opponents to attack rather than rushing them indiscriminately. 108

Acting on Yang Jian's remote command, Xiaotian rampages through the stronghold, terrorizes its bandits, and kills more than a dozen with a roar. It later absorbs the Steel Claw Tiger soul bone found in the stronghold's hidden cache. 79 83 88

Conflict with Shrek

Xiaotian humiliates Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun outside a hotel, then withstands the combined efforts of the Shrek Seven Devils. It subsequently knocks out Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Zhu Zhuqing, decisively demonstrating the gap between its strength and that of the Shrek students. 107 109 111

Its strength attracts Ning Rongrong's desire to possess it, while its apparent understanding of human speech and deliberate restraint make Tang San unusually cautious. Its estimated twelve-hundred-year aura contrasts sharply with its actual performance. 108

Return to the Star Dou Great Forest

Xiaotian revisits the valley of its mother's death, confronts unresolved grief, and is reunited with its father after the latter saves Yang Jian from Tang Hao. 141 147 150

It spends the night beside the foxtail grass marking its mother's resting place, and its spirits begin improving after three days. Yang Jian also protects it from covetous human Soul Masters encountered deeper in the forest. 142

During Tang Hao's pursuit, Xiaotian attempts to carry Yang Jian to the forest's central forbidden zone, then returns to protect him when he faces Tang Hao alone. Its Dominator Domain is shattered and it is sent flying, leaving it unable to stop Tang Hao's final attack without its father's intervention. 143 145 147 While recuperating afterward, it begins hunting alongside its father and develops a closer bond with him. 151

Separation and Reunion

Yang Jian leaves Xiaotian under its father's protection so it can better develop in the Star Dou Great Forest. When they reunite, Xiaotian has grown into a far stronger and more mature soul beast. 153 219

Before their separation, Xiaotian initially chooses to follow Yang Jian. Yang Jian instead feeds it the soul bone recovered from Tang Hao's severed arm and entrusts the sleeping Xiaotian to its father, believing the forest is its true home and the best environment for its growth. 153

Beast God Trial

Xiaotian enters the Beast God's secret realm with Yang Jian and its father. Chosen by the Beast God Token, it begins cultivating in the Ancient Tower to pursue the Beast God's inheritance. 230 231 232

Nearly two years later, Xiaotian remains in the tower and has reached the fifth floor. The Beast God's remaining divine sense recognizes its exceptional progress, while its father expects it to eventually inherit the Beast God's position. 289

By Yang Jian's next return, the sixth-floor mural is illuminated, confirming that Xiaotian has advanced beyond the fifth floor. Yang Jian waits for half a month before the sixth-floor trial concludes. The seventh-floor mural briefly flickers, then goes dark, and Xiaotian emerges with a body nearly as large as its father's and an aura surpassing his. 323

Father's Death and Spiritual Reunion

Upon emerging from the tower, Xiaotian reunites affectionately with Yang Jian but soon learns that its father has died. Rather than blaming Yang Jian, it asks about the killer and controls its rising killing intent. Yang Jian has already avenged its father, whose sacrifice produced his blood-red seventh Soul Ring. Xiaotian senses its father's soul within that ring, and the Golden-Haired Lion Mastiff's illusory spirit appears before them. 323

Tian Meng's restoration of its parents' soul consciousnesses provides hope that their deaths need not mean complete spiritual annihilation. Despite wanting to accompany Yang Jian, Xiaotian remains in the secret realm to pursue the seventh floor and ultimately the Beast God's position, intending to become strong enough to confront the Silver Dragon King for Yang Jian's sake. 324
