Background / History

Fang Ze was a left-behind child who valued having someone at his side. His life changes when Stray Arrow appears in his home and identifies him as “King Apophis,” revealing that he has inherited the Planetary Impact Authority and become a Calamity King. Rather than excitement, his first response is fear over the disaster an uncontrolled asteroid strike could cause. 112 120

His position makes him a target almost immediately. During an assassination attempt orchestrated through cascading accidents, his guards are separated or killed while Wan Hengyang closes in on him. Fang Ze concludes that his survival is necessary to prevent a far larger catastrophe, even if protecting him demands sacrifices. 122 123

His first direct battle with Negary exposes his inexperience. Negary repeatedly severs Fang Ze's control over Calamity Power, anticipates his attacks, and exploits his telegraphed movements. The defeat forces Fang Ze to acknowledge that raw power does not compensate for poor combat judgment. 133 134

Appearance

Fang Ze's ordinary appearance is not described in the available material. After accepting the power of the New God and First Dragon, he assumes a demonic form. 206

  • Grows to roughly five meters tall. 206
  • Is covered in burning black flames. 206
  • Develops demon wings and horn-like protrusions that coil into a crown. 206

Personality

Fang Ze begins as a frightened and somewhat unprepared new Calamity King, but he is consistently protective of those around him. He attempts to reason with Wan Hengyang despite the danger, takes responsibility for the consequences of his survival, and repeatedly risks himself for He Qiao and Stray Arrow. 123 156 173

His battles with Negary force him to become more composed, adaptive, and deliberate. By the time of the Great Cataclysm, Negary observes that Fang Ze has grown into someone more fitting of the King of Calamity title. 167 168

After attaining his third Root Release, Fang Ze becomes exhausted by the expectations bound to his role as the King of All Living Beings. Learning that Negary had implanted a fragment of the Dragon of Eternal Sin within his Root gives him freedom from those expectations, but also drives him toward a destructive choice. 206

Abilities & Skills

Planetary Impact Authority

Fang Ze's original Calamity Authority allows him to guide asteroids and meteorites toward a target.

  • Can summon an asteroid through intent; greater diameter requires more time to guide. 112
  • Uses smaller meteorites for immediate defense and has stockpiled asteroids as a precaution. 123 124
  • His Calamity Power naturally manifests as immense impact force and high temperature. 167 179
  • His death could trigger an asteroid impact severe enough to endanger Earth. 122

Power of the Stars

Fang Ze's Root ability is founded on trust and conscious connection.

  • Borrows power from people who sincerely trust him. 160 174
  • Requires the other party to willingly agree to lend him their ability. 174
  • Can amplify borrowed Authorities beyond their original users' normal limits through his own Calamity Power. 174
  • Uses the connection to determine whether his companions remain alive. 167
  • Later borrows combat knowledge from survivors, adapting techniques from more than a hundred fighting styles into his own combat system. 179
  • Can draw on the strength of all living beings, a power tied to his role as the King of All Living Beings. 183 205

Consciousness and Soul Interference

Through the Power of the Stars, Fang Ze can communicate directly with another person's consciousness.

  • Uses mental-image attacks to correct consciousnesses polluted or altered by outside influence. 174
  • Enters He Qiao's consciousness and purges her root infection, restoring her sanity. 174
  • Resonates with human thoughts inside the Eye of Myriad Phenomena's illusion to borrow Soul Qi and attack Negary's soul. 177
  • His ability to use Interference Force prevents Negary from simply severing his mental control over Calamity Power. 178

Ability Fusion

Following his second Root Liberation, Fang Ze learns to combine multiple borrowed powers.

  • Fuses He Qiao's vitality with Zhang Wei's Authority of Deterioration to heal severe injuries. 183
  • Combines Planetary Impact with Stray Arrow's sharpness and control to turn surrounding stones into guided miniature meteors. 183
  • Can cycle between allies' abilities for defense, healing, ranged attacks, and close combat. 178 179
  • His early limitation was only being able to wield one borrowed ability at a time. 183

Combat Ability

Fang Ze uses Calamity Power to reinforce his body, accelerate movement, and fight at close range.

  • Condenses Calamity Power around his body instead of dispersing it against opponents of comparable strength. 174
  • Uses Calamity Power propulsion for extreme bursts of movement. 167
  • Fights with his fists, elbows, knees, shins, and high-temperature Calamity Power after integrating borrowed combat knowledge. 179
  • Initially suffers from predictable movements and fixed thinking patterns, weaknesses Negary repeatedly exploits. 133 180

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Calamity Power-material gauntlet — An arm-length steel gauntlet used to block Calamity Power weapons and strike opponents directly. 142
  • Calamity Power-material dagger — Used during the battle with Ye Kong. 142
  • Calamity Power-material clothing — Protective clothing issued to him as a Calamity King. 133 142
  • Flaming longsword — Wielded after he becomes one of the Burning Coalition's giants; used to extract a world's calamity and source power. 434

Relationships

  • Stray Arrow — His subordinate and designated protector. Fang Ze rescues her from Liu Ren, an act that allows her to fully join his team; she later supports him in battle. 112 156 157 174
  • He Qiao — His neighbor and closest emotional connection. He attempts to save her from soul collapse, fights to restore her sanity, and later carries her with him after becoming the Demon King. 131 142 173 174 206
  • Negary / Wang Yuan — His central enemy and manipulator. Negary studies Fang Ze as a protagonist, repeatedly engineers crises to force his growth, and ultimately implants part of the Dragon of Eternal Sin into Fang Ze's Root. 133 168 183 206
  • Chang Xia — A Response Division ally who assists Fang Ze during attacks, helps devise the approach to He Qiao's vine-covered body, and fights alongside him against Negary. 122 173 176
  • Ah Qi — An ally and holder of the Land Sinking Authority who intervenes to save Fang Ze when Negary nearly kills him. 180 183
  • New God and First Dragon — Otherworldly powers that lend Fang Ze their strength and force his mutation into the Demon King of the Burning Coalition. 206 207
