After becoming Amazon Lily's new Empress, Hancock recognized that the island could not rely on the Calm Belt alone for safety. She ordered the nation to practice martial arts, but sought Shichibukai status as a faster way to deter hostile pirates and protect her people from suffering her own past tragedy. 69

Leading the Kuja Pirates, Hancock and her sisters crushed a pirate crew composed entirely of giants. She considered the victory insufficient for earning a Shichibukai appointment and continued searching for a larger target. 69

Hancock encountered Natsuya's Door Pirate Crew after its ship descended from the Sky Island. Believing the recently appointed Shichibukai to be the easiest current Warlord to challenge, she petrified Nami and Gin and attempted to use Natsuya as the achievement that would secure her own appointment. 70 71

Natsuya proved immune to her Mero Mero Mellow through a Door-Door Fruit defense within his heart.
