Background / History

Big Mom took interest in Gatekeeper Natsuya after his bounty rose to two billion Belly. Viewing him as a suitable husband for her daughter Charlotte Smoothie, she ordered preparations for a marriage arrangement intended to bring the Door Pirate Crew into the Charlotte Family’s orbit 105.

After Natsuya initially refused her invitation, Big Mom ordered Pekoms and Baron Tamago to pursue him and bring him to Totto Land. Katakuri persuaded her not to provoke conflict at Fish-Man Island, where Whitebeard’s protection could invite retaliation, and proposed waiting until Natsuya left the island 109 111.

Natsuya eventually agreed to attend her Tea Party and marry Smoothie. Big Mom interpreted this as submission, dismissing Katakuri’s concerns that Natsuya had ulterior motives and declaring that he would be hers to handle once inside Totto Land 120 121.

At the Tea Party, Big Mom attempted to display the Charlotte Family’s strength and maintain control over Natsuya. Her plans deteriorated after Natsuya defeated Katakuri, Kaido intervened, and Natsuya challenged her directly 122 137. Although her physical power, Haki, and Homies initially pushed Natsuya back, he repeatedly disrupted Zeus and Prometheus before escaping Totto Land with Kaido 138 139 141.

Enraged by Natsuya’s growing reputation as the “Future Fifth Emperor,” Big Mom destroyed Whole Cake Island in a prolonged outburst 143. She later allied with Whitebeard to invade Wano Country, personally targeting Natsuya while Whitebeard fought Kaido 156.

During the Wano conflict, Natsuya sealed Zeus and Prometheus’s memories with Ghost Gate Pass, cutting off Big Mom’s thunder, fire, and flight support. Even deprived of those Homies, she remained a formidable close-range opponent through her physical strength and Advanced Conqueror’s Haki 160 161. Natsuya ultimately defeated and incapacitated her, then took the Soul-Soul Fruit from her 164 165.

Following her escape from Akainu and return to Totto Land, Big Mom entered another destructive frenzy after learning of her defeat. She attacked her own children; Katakuri subdued her but chose to leave the Big Mom Pirates because of the harm she caused them 170.

Natsuya later confronted Big Mom again, used the Soul-Soul Fruit to extract thirty years of her lifespan, and reduced her to a frail, white-haired state. Her collapse triggered the disintegration of the Big Mom Pirates and allowed Natsuya to occupy Totto Land as a new Sea Emperor 171 172.

Afterward, Big Mom drifted to the North Blue, isolated from her former intelligence network and separated from her children. There, she sought the Op-Op Fruit’s immortality surgery in hopes of regaining youth, and later clashed with Nami, Gin, and Katakuri’s group 265 266 269.

Personality

Big Mom is domineering, possessive, and highly sensitive to disrespect. She treated Natsuya’s refusal of her marriage invitation as a personal affront and was determined to preserve her public authority over the Tea Party 111 120.

Her confidence in her own power often led her to dismiss warnings from Katakuri. She believed that anyone arriving in Totto Land could be controlled at her discretion, even when Natsuya’s actions clearly suggested otherwise 120.

She views family as a source of control rather than mutual care. Her children obeyed her out of fear, and her repeated violent frenzies—including attacks on her own family—ultimately drove Katakuri to abandon her 170 171.
