Background / History

Decline after the Uchiha Clan's fall

Nearly four years after the Uchiha Clan's destruction, Konoha's military strength had declined sharply. Other powers maintained the existing balance rather than exploiting the village's weakness, preventing an immediate war that could have sent Ryusuke's generation to the front lines early. 12

Konoha's political atmosphere was shaped by the rivalry between the Hokage's faction and Shimura Danzō. Ryusuke's parents had been loyal Konoha chunin aligned with the Hokage's line, giving him some protection from Danzō's influence. 12

Konoha Crush and succession

The Konoha Crush killed Sarutobi Hiruzen and many defending ninja, while summoned snakes damaged numerous buildings. Reconstruction began immediately, but Hiruzen's death was regarded as the village's greatest loss because the Hokage served as Konoha's central pillar. 69

Jiraiya declined the position of Fifth Hokage and nominated Tsunade. Her descent from the First and Second Hokage made her the strongest available successor in both status and legitimacy. 69

Tsunade's inauguration returned Konoha's ruling authority to the Senju line. Her accession was publicly announced throughout the Land of Fire and known across the ninja world. 80

Wood Release revival

Ryusuke publicly used Wood Release: Advent of a World of Flowers and Trees to stop a quarry-prison breakout. The technique raised forests around the escapees, released incapacitating pollen, bound its targets with vines, and drained their Chakra. 97

Wood Release's return transformed Konoha's standing. Neighboring countries and villages sent congratulations, border harassment decreased, and the village gained deterrence as Wood Release was widely recognized as a counter to Tailed Beasts and Jinchūriki. 97

By Konoha Year 61, Konoha had recovered much of its international prestige through Tsunade's rule, Ryusuke's Wood Release, and possession of the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki. 103

Collapse of the old leadership bloc

The Council of Elders, Root, and the four major clans associated with the Konoha F4 were annihilated in an incident where victims suddenly became expressionless and turned to ash. More than two thousand people died. 144 148

The destruction removed the elder system's established power base. Major clans that had long resented the former leadership supported Tsunade's administration and expected to divide the political influence left vacant by the fallen clans. 148

Fourth Great Ninja War
