Several days later, on the lawn in the back garden of the Saintess Palace.
The sun was just right, and the breeze was gentle.
Nan Feng lay sprawled on the soft grass without a shred of dignity, with more than a dozen scattered sheets of drawing paper spread out before him.
Drawn on them were the preliminary concept sketches for the "Spider Emperor Battle Armor," which he had roughly outlined after several days of in-depth discussions with Bibi Dong.
Not only did they feature sleek, sharp exoskeleton lines, but they were also marked with numerous precise mechanical joints.
For now, though, it was merely a prototype. After all, he would need to develop all those imagined flashy functions from scratch and devise entirely new Soul Guidance Circuits. At most, what he had drawn now counted as concept art.
Just as Nan Feng bit down on his pen and pondered how best to optimize the shape of the shoulder armor, a golden figure silently moved closer.
Imitating him, Qian Renxue lay down on the grass as well, her pair of golden eyes curiously fixed on the complicated blueprints.
"What is this?" Qian Renxue blinked. "Armor?"
"More or less." Nan Feng nodded without looking up.
Qian Renxue pulled out one of the colored design sketches, her expression somewhat incredulous. "You... drew all of these?"
Nan Feng tilted his head and glanced at her. "What? They don't look good?"
"They look good, but..." Qian Renxue looked at him strangely. "Are you really that amazing?"
Nan Feng was speechless. "What exactly are you trying to say?"
"You're only six!" Qian Renxue raised her voice and pointed at the outrageously detailed lines and shading on the drawings. "You're only six, yet you can draw something like this? You're way too amazing, aren't you?"
Nan Feng curled his lips, looking as though it were only natural. "It's just drawing. Anyone with hands can do it. You can't?"
Qian Renxue's expression froze, and she nearly choked on her anger. "Do you even hear yourself?! Drawings this intricate and refined would take even professional artists in Spirit City who knows how long to complete! And you've even colored them!"
Nan Feng gave her a bland glance. "Useless."
Qian Renxue's face instantly stiffened, and anger shot up inside her. "Are you deliberately provoking me?!"
"What, you want to hit me?" Nan Feng raised his little brows and fearlessly lay back on the grass. "Don't forget, you swore that you would never bully me again. Otherwise, your mother will never speak to you again."
Qian Renxue immediately deflated like a punctured balloon, biting her lower lip in grievance.
"But you can't deliberately provoke me like this either!"
"I didn't use my hands. I only used my mouth." Nan Feng sounded perfectly justified. "As they say, a gentleman uses his mouth, not his fists. If you're unhappy, you can use your mouth to curse me back."
Qian Renxue glared at him furiously and held it in for a long while. "I... I'm not good with words. I can't outtalk you!"
"If you can't, you can learn." Nan Feng spread his little hands. "Actually, I'm usually very quiet. I'm timid too, and I'm terrible at dealing with people."
Qian Renxue looked at him strangely.
That much was obvious!
This guy acted like a frightened quail in front of everyone else, timid to the extreme. When she had first met him, he had also looked like a meek, cowardly orphan.
It was only after that night, when she had repeatedly tormented him by "tying him up," that he had completely torn off his disguise and stopped being the least bit afraid of her.
As for being "quiet" and "bad at dealing with people"... that was even more ridiculous!
People who were truly good with words insulted others subtly. At the very least, they maintained a veneer of civility.
But this guy's mouth was like a poisoned blade. He had absolutely no filter, and the moment he opened his mouth, he could infuriate someone to death!
"Why did you come over again today?" Nan Feng gathered up the drawings and asked casually. "Sister Dong'er has been in seclusion cultivating these past few days. She hasn't even been paying attention to me, so she definitely doesn't have time to pay attention to you."
Hearing that form of address, Qian Renxue looked a little unnatural. "Sister Dong'er? She let you call her that?"
"Yeah. What's wrong?" Nan Feng nodded.
Qian Renxue lowered her eyes and gently shook her head. "Nothing. It's just... she won't let me call her Mom. She doesn't like it when I call her that."
Nan Feng sighed and casually suggested, "Since she doesn't like you calling her Mom, you can call her Sister like I do."
Qian Renxue froze, her brows knitting tightly. "But she's my mother!"
Nan Feng looked at her in confusion. "You know she doesn't like you calling her that, but you insist on doing it anyway. Isn't that provoking her?"
"With forms of address, you can call her something more formal, like Your Highness the Saintess. Or something more intimate, like Saintess Sister. Or you can simply call her Sister. Failing that, you can call her Sister Dong'er like I do."
Rubbing his chin, Nan Feng added, "Or you could call her Little Dongdong."
Qian Renxue's eye twitched violently. "Little... Little Dongdong?!"
Nan Feng nodded. "Of course, I can only call her that when we're alone in private. Outside, I have to properly call her Sister or Your Highness the Saintess."
"But sometimes, she calls me a little brat in return."
Qian Renxue looked utterly baffled. "Little brat? What did you do now?"
"She doesn't feel very secure when she sleeps, so she likes holding me while she sleeps, like she's hugging a big cat."
Nan Feng sighed helplessly. "If I don't let her hold me, she sulks. I can't help it. I'm living under someone else's roof, so I can only suffer a little and let her hold me."
"But after I fall asleep, my body instinctively and unconsciously burrows toward the warmest spot in her arms..."
Nan Feng spread his hands. "Then the next morning, she pinches my cheeks and calls me a little brat."
Qian Renxue was dumbfounded. Her fair, pretty face instantly flushed bright red, and she blurted out:
"Aren't you basically a little pervert?!"
Nan Feng was immediately speechless and protested, "You're the pervert! After I fall asleep, I unconsciously burrow toward warm places. It's not like I do it on purpose when I'm awake!"
Qian Renxue looked at him doubtfully. "...Really?"
"Obviously." Nan Feng rolled his eyes. "If I really had any perverted intentions, do you think she'd still hold me while sleeping every day?"
"Besides, how old am I? What kind of pervert would I be? If anything, I think she's the one being perverted with me. She's the one who insists on holding me every time."
Qian Renxue was momentarily speechless.
But immediately afterward, her expression darkened, and an unconcealable trace of envy flashed through her eyes.
Her mother had never held her while sleeping. Not once, ever since she was little.
Seeing through her thoughts, Nan Feng leaned over and poked her arm. "What, you want her to hold you while you sleep too?"
Qian Renxue's face reddened slightly. She turned away and stubbornly said, "Nonsense! How old am I? How could I possibly still need someone to hold me while I sleep?"
"Oh, is that so?"
Nan Feng nodded in understanding and deliberately let out a regretful sigh. "I thought you seemed pretty pitiful, always coming here these past few days, so I was planning to be kind and come up with a brilliant way to get her to hold you properly while you sleep too."
"Since you're so principled and don't want it at all... then forget it. Pretend I never said anything."
As he spoke, Nan Feng picked up his pen and made as if to lower his head and continue drawing.
Qian Renxue immediately panicked and pressed down on the drawing paper. "Wait! When did I say I didn't want it?!"
Nan Feng stopped his pen and returned her own words to her with a faint smile. "How old are you? How could you possibly still need someone to hold you while you sleep?"
Qian Renxue's eyes reddened, and she could no longer maintain that proud facade.
Moisture gathered in her eyes. She bit her lower lip hard, her voice filled with unconcealable grievance. "I... I... I just want her to hold me. What's wrong with that..."
Seeing her on the verge of tears, Nan Feng sighed helplessly. "Big sis, how are you more likely to cry than me, a six-year-old orphan?"
"I wasn't crying!"
Qian Renxue stubbornly turned away and forcefully wiped her eyes with the back of her fair hand, but there was no hiding her slightly trembling shoulders.
Nan Feng put away his teasing expression and asked seriously, "Enough. Stop pretending. Let me ask you this: do you really want her to hold you?"
Qian Renxue abruptly turned back. Her red-rimmed eyes looked at him with anticipation, mixed with a few traces of anxious uncertainty. "You... really have a way?"
Nan Feng curled his lips and nodded. "Of course I do."
"But..."
"That depends on whether you're willing to obediently cooperate with me."
