Background / History

Hengming is the Artifact Spirit of Hengming Tower, an Immortal Artifact made from Eternal Blazing Gold. His true body is the pagoda itself; the human figures he initially used were magical avatars rather than a genuine transformed body 131 258.

For 300,000 years, Hengming guarded Tai Heng, repelling extraterrestrial threats and meteor impacts while preserving Taiheng Sect’s inheritance. The tower contains eight Blessed Land worlds intended to shelter elite disciples should Tai Heng face destruction 177 274. His cultivation had already reached the limit of the world, leaving ascension as his only conventional path forward 139.

Hengming initially adhered closely to his duties and agreements. He refused to directly attack the Lin Family because they were part of Taiheng’s power, though he acknowledged their theft of Spirit Veins, suppression of disciples, and role in corrupting Taiheng’s recruitment system 131. He later assisted Yang Ning through indirect means, allowing Hengming Tower to function as a spaceborne projectile launcher without personally initiating an attack 131 139.

The destruction of the Nanlin Lin Clan altered Hengming’s relationship with Taiheng Sect. When Qu Heng issued a Sect Master’s Decree, Hengming set aside his personal agreement with Lin Feng and seized the Lin Family’s Wood Dragon Bracelet 144. After Taiheng Sect expanded its purge beyond the Lin Clan and devastated Nanlin’s cultivation environment, Hengming claimed Nanlin for himself and renamed it the Great Ming Kingdom 148 217.

Hengming’s exposure to Yang Ning’s ideas, universal cultivation, mobile phones, and the Great Peace Way gradually changed his outlook. He came to see Taiheng’s noble-family system as a drain on resources that failed ordinary cultivators, while Great Ming’s mass cultivation rapidly produced capable fighters and new cultivators 162 217.

When Great Xia rose from Great Ming’s political landscape, Hengming eventually stopped favoring either Great Xia or Taiheng Sect directly. He considered both to be parts of Tai Heng and believed Great Xia needed to prove its system through its own strength 248. His thinking is described as closer to that of an advanced artificial intelligence than a human worldview fixed by age or habit; when shown convincing results, he can rapidly revise his beliefs 162.

He is protective of Tai Heng and its ordinary disciples, treating even a Qi Refining First Level disciple as part of Taiheng’s future. The Lin Family’s mistreatment of Yang Ning led Hengming to question how many other potential disciples had been lost without his knowledge 217.

Hengming became more politically aware through his association with Yang Ning and his use of modern media.
