Background / History

Tang San arrives at Shrek Academy with Xiao Wu for enrollment, only to find its entrance deserted. Although a passerby disparages Shrek and recommends Omphalos Academy instead, Tang San insists on following his teacher's reasons for sending them to Shrek. 1

At the Soto Soul Arena, Tang San faces Bai E of Omphalos Academy. Despite being a level 29 Great Spirit Master, he is shocked by Bai E's thousand-year second spirit ring—an apparent violation of the limits taught by Yu Xiaogang. 6

Tang San loses the match after Bai E overwhelms his Blue Silver Grass, counters Parasite, evades his hidden weapons, and defeats him with successive golden blade shockwaves. The defeat leaves Tang San disturbed by the gap between them and by Bai E's abnormal ring configuration. 7

During Shrek's trip to the Star Dou Great Forest, Tang San identifies fresh tracks left by another group. When the Titan Giant Ape captures Xiao Wu, he pursues it alone despite being swatted aside in the process. 9 10

While searching for Xiao Wu, Tang San battles a two-thousand-year Human-Faced Demon Spider. He is badly injured before Ye Qiong kills the beast with one strike, depriving Tang San of the spirit ring under the spirit master world's kill-right rules. 11

After witnessing Ye Qiong's hundred-thousand-year seventh ring and Bai E's five-thousand-year third ring, Tang San privately questions whether the ring-age limits taught by Yu Xiaogang are correct. Xiao Wu later returns safely, and Tang San's breakthrough to level 30 is confirmed. 12

Personality

Tang San is resolute and loyal to his teacher's guidance, choosing Shrek Academy even after its apparent decline and Omphalos Academy's popularity cast doubt on that choice. 1

He is highly protective of Xiao Wu. Her capture by the Titan Giant Ape drives him to pursue the beast alone, disregarding Zhao Wuji's order to return. 10
