Background
A Divine Position is the inheritance and authority of a god. A chosen recipient becomes an inheritor, receives a distinctive mark between the brows, and is assigned God Trials that lead toward godhood. Tai Yi’s purple-and-green mark identifies him as the inheritor of both the God of Destruction and Goddess of Life’s positions. 2
The God of Destruction and Goddess of Life selected Tai Yi because his Three-Legged Golden Crow Martial Soul embodies both supreme solar destruction and life-giving vitality. Although one Martial Soul is normally understood to carry only one Divine Position, Tai Yi’s Golden Crow carries both of theirs. 2
Gods are ordinarily forbidden from interfering with Douluo Planet, but the God of Destruction and Goddess of Life openly bent this restriction for Tai Yi. They embedded three uses of protective divine power in his inheritance mark and intended to relinquish their duties after he succeeded them. 2
Inheritance Mechanics
Selection and God Trials
A god may choose a compatible inheritor and initiate a set of trials. Tai Yi was given the Joint Nine Trials of Destruction and Life, but could not begin them until reaching Rank 70. 1 2
- Divine compatibility is tied to an inheritor’s Martial Soul and attributes. Tai Yi’s Golden Crow was deemed compatible with both destruction and life, while Leng Qianqiu’s Ultimate Ice Frost Saint Dragon Martial Soul suited the Ice Godhead. 2 182
- Inheritors receive a divine mark upon successful selection or transfer. 2 86 190
- Failed or interrupted inheritances may require the God Trial to begin again; the King of Slaughter’s completed Asura trials were lost when he died. 111
- Trial conditions and rewards vary by position. Rewards documented for Tai Yi include increased Spirit Ring ages, divine artifact-forging knowledge, affinity with his inheriting gods, domains, techniques, and a God-Bestowed Soul Ring. 95 101 109 127 177
Transfer and Revocation
Divine Positions may be voluntarily passed down by their holders, including through arrangements made by higher-ranking gods. The God King of Destruction assembled gods willing to transfer compatible positions to Tai Yi’s trusted allies. 176 182
- The God King of Destruction ordered the selected gods to simplify the new inheritors’ trials before transferring their positions. 190
- Tai Yi presents Divine Positions as conditional rewards for loyalty and service to the Spirit Hall Empire, stating that a position granted by him can also be taken back. 180
- Contributions earned while guarding Slaughter City can be inherited by a deceased contributor’s descendants or designated successor, allowing them to continue pursuing a Divine Position. 192
- A candidate may receive a position only after resurrection in the God Realm; Qian Daoliu was assigned the God of Light position but could not inherit it while bound to his duty as the Angel God’s high priest. 178 182
Levels and Authority
Divine Positions are not equal in rank. First-Level Gods hold greater responsibilities and power than Second-Level Gods, while God Kings stand above them.

| God King | God of Destruction; Goddess of Life; Asura God King | Tai Yi inherits the positions of two God Kings. 1 2 43 |

Role in the Spirit Hall Empire
Divine Positions become a political instrument under Tai Yi’s rule. He uses promised inheritances to secure loyalty, motivate cultivation, and recruit defenders for Slaughter City, where successful service can earn a future God Trial. 180 188 192
The first public inheritance ceremony transferred nine Divine Positions to Tai Yi’s selected allies, proving to the gathered factions that the Spirit Hall Empire could offer a path to godhood. 189 190
Trivia
- Tai Yi’s dual inheritance is considered extraordinary because the usual understanding is that each Martial Soul can carry only one Divine Position. 2
- The God King of Destruction’s support for Tai Yi’s allies triggered a wider political struggle in the God Realm, as other God Kings feared Tai Yi’s faction would eventually control most divine authority. 176 223
