Gu Yue looked around, a gentle breeze sweeping past, and she immediately grasped the general situation.
"Seventeen in total." Her gaze swept rapidly through the mist. "Three Golden Wolves, twelve Silver Wolves, and—"
Her words caught in her throat. Was this something their group could handle?
Something tore through the mist.
A giant wolf with a coat of pure silver stepped out from the shadows. Its shoulder height was nearly two meters, its fur shimmering with a moonlight-like halo, and a silver mark on its forehead resembled a crescent moon.
Behind it, the twelve Silver Wolves and three Golden Wolves fanned out, their ghostly green eyes glowing like lanterns in the dark.
A Silver Moon Wolf, of the Silver Moon Wolf King's bloodline.
A thousand-year soul beast.
"Golden Wolves have formidable physical constitutions, while Silver Wolves excel at elemental control." Gu Yue's voice was uncharacteristically taut.
"Standard front-line tanks and back-line DPS," Xiao Mu remarked. "But as long as it isn't a nine-nine-nine, we should be able to take them."
"What about the Wolf King?" Xie Xie couldn't help but ask.
"What do you think? It's the commander, obviously," Xiao Mu explained. "This Silver Moon Wolf has mastered at least six elements: earth, water, fire, wind, light, and darkness."
The Silver Moon Wolf King tilted its head back and let out a long howl. The sound waves exploded through the forest, shattering the thin mist.
The twelve Silver Wolves growled in unison, elemental light coalescing in their maws—fireballs, ice spikes, wind blades, thick and dense.
"Their elemental control is better than Gu Yue's!" Xiao Mu's force field expanded, silently dissolving all the attacks; kinetic and thermal energy were absorbed completely.
"What do you mean their elemental control is better than mine? How are they better than me?" Gu Yue protested immediately. Wasn't this control exactly the same as her own?
"Tch, you have a brain, you have intelligence. If you use the same attack methods as them, doesn't that just make you look weak?" Xiao Mu said dismissively.
"Damn you..."
"Are you getting worked up?"
Gu Yue glared at Xiao Mu, her soul ring lighting up beneath her feet. Wind, fire, water, and earth elements coalesced in her palm simultaneously, rotating into a four-colored sphere.
"Watch closely. I'll show you what real control is."
The four-colored sphere flew from her hand, smashing into the center of the wolf pack.
Fire borrowed the wind's momentum, water bolstered the earth's might; the four elements exploded upon impact. The shockwave sent three Silver Wolves flying, their fur scorched and their bodies frozen, leaving them in a pathetic state.
"Isn't that what you're supposed to do? What's there to show off?" Xiao Mu said bluntly.
Just then, the Silver Moon Wolf King made its move.
The silver mark on its forehead suddenly lit up, and an earthen wall rose with a roar, blocking Gu Yue's elemental storm. Then, water elements coalesced, and ice spikes shot out from behind the wall like a torrential rain. Augmented by wind elements, the ice spikes moved as fast as bullets.
Light elements flickered, blinding everyone, while dark elements lurked in the shadows like a viper flicking its tongue.
"Look at them, they even have two dog heads on their earth wall," Xiao Mu said, looking at the wall in the distance.
"Xiao Mu, those are wolf heads," Xie Xie reminded him.
"They look about the same," Xiao Mu said, stepping forward as his force field expanded around him.
"Na'er, you and I will handle the Wolf King. Wang Jinxi, Zhang Yangzi, Tang Wulin, Wei Xiaofeng, you four take the Golden Wolves. Gu Yue, Xie Xie, you handle the Silver Wolves. Xu Xiaoyan, provide crowd control."
The Silver Moon Wolf King's forehead mark flared again, earth elements surging beneath its feet. An earthen wall rose with a boom, the surface protruding with the silhouettes of two ferocious wolf heads.
It leaped from behind the wall, six elements swirling around its body like a colorful halo.
Wind elements gathered beneath its paws, making it as fast as a silver bolt of lightning. It lunged straight at Xiao Mu, opening its maw to fire a red fireball and a blue ice spike simultaneously, which intertwined into a spiral.
Xiao Mu didn't move.
His first soul ring lit up, and his force field shifted.
The trajectories of the fireball and ice spike twisted abruptly, as if hitting an invisible mirror, and were deflected to the sides. The fireball smashed into the canopy, setting the branches ablaze, while the ice spikes nailed into the ground, exploding into a patch of white frost.
The Wolf King's pupils contracted; it couldn't understand what had happened, and earth elements surged rapidly.
"Trying to run? Take this!" Xiao Mu stomped his foot. The ground suddenly bulged, and under the manipulation of vectors, gravel and mud surged and coalesced, forming an arched earthen wall in the blink of an eye, sealing the Wolf King's path.
The surface of the wall was rough, like a mountain that had suddenly sprouted from the earth.
The Wolf King slammed into the wall, its six elements flickering. It opened its maw, a shadow ball coalescing in its throat, and fired it directly at the wall.
The wall shattered.
But Na'er's Silver Dragon Spear had already arrived.
The tip of the spear pierced through the smoke and dust, her silver eyes cold and sharp. The Wolf King leaped sideways, augmented by wind elements, its speed leaving behind afterimages.
It landed, the silver mark on its forehead glowing again. Light elements erupted, and a blinding white light exploded through the forest, making it impossible to keep one's eyes open.
"Airflow manipulation."
Xiao Mu's first soul skill shifted again. The air formed a vortex around him, refracting and dispersing the intense light. The white glow was swallowed by something, suddenly dimming.
The Wolf King's eyes widened.
Before it could react, gravity suddenly doubled. Its four paws sank into the mud, and its nearly three-meter-tall body was pressed low, its spine groaning under the unbearable weight.
"Suppression. Work with me, this will be over soon! Feeling dizzy is perfectly normal."
Xiao Mu smiled, the downward pressure becoming even more terrifying.
Na'er reacted swiftly, raising the Silver Dragon Spear high. The tip of the spear condensed a halo of moonlight as she thrust it directly at the Silver Moon Wolf King.
The Wolf King struggled, six elements erupting simultaneously. Earth walls grew wildly from the ground, water elements condensed into a torrential rain of ice spikes, while fireballs, wind blades, light blades, and shadow orbs filled the air, dense and chaotic like an elemental carnival.
Seeing this, Xiao Mu shifted his force field again, twisting the trajectories of all the incoming attacks. Fireballs smashed into wind blades, light blades collided with shadow orbs, and ice spikes pierced into the earth walls.
The elements collided in mid-air, exploding into a brilliant display of fireworks, yet they could not come within three meters of Xiao Mu and Na'er.
"It's over," Xiao Mu said.
Na'er stepped forward, the Silver Dragon Spear piercing through the Wolf King's throat. The tip of the spear emerged from the back of its neck, bringing with it a spray of dark red blood.
The Wolf King's body gradually stiffened. The light of the six elements extinguished inch by inch, like fireflies scattered by the wind, dissipating into the air.
It collapsed, hitting the ground with a thunderous thud as dust billowed upward.
On the other side, the battle was also nearing its end.
Tang Wulin's Golden Dragon Claw tore through the chest of the last Golden Wolf, while Wang Jinxi's Bone Dragon Claw crushed the skull of another.
Gu Yue's elemental storm sent several Silver Wolves flying simultaneously, and Xie Xie's Light Dragon Dagger pierced into the spine of a Silver Wolf, delivering the final blow.
Xu Xiaoyan stood at the rear of the team, waving her Ice Staff. An Ice Wheel streaked through the air, leaving a Silver Wolf dazed and dizzy.
Zhang Yangzi's Eagle Claw seized the opportunity to strike, and the Silver Wolf fell to the ground with a miserable howl.
Specks of spiritual power drifted up from the carcasses, dense and numerous, like a rising sea of fireflies.
Xiao Mu looked around; all nine people were present, and there were no losses at all.
Finally, his gaze turned to the corpse of the Silver Moon Wolf, curious to see if it had dropped any good loot.
He wondered which part the Silver Moon Wolf spirit bone would be.
The Wolf King's corpse gradually faded away, transforming into a larger mass of spiritual power that surged into Xiao Mu and Na'er before disappearing without a trace.
"Where is my reward? Where is my spirit bone!"
