Background and History

The Shimura Clan grew in strength alongside the Sarutobi and Ino-Shika-Cho clans while the Senju, Uchiha, and several other Konoha clans weakened. After the Second Shinobi World War, it had 13 of Konoha's 187 active jōnin 117 214.

The clan held the position of Guardian Ninja Captain for the Land of Grass Daimyō, giving it priority in selecting missions from that country. Its Land of Grass work was estimated to bring in at least 60 million ryō annually 252.

Abilities and Members

Wind Release

• Shimura Tan and his companions used Wind Release against an assassin, but their techniques were overwhelmed by Fire Release 223.
• Ding had learned much of Danzō's Wind Release repertoire. While testing techniques against the Two-Tails jinchūriki's cloak, his Vacuum Consecutive Wave briefly pierced it but did not injure the jinchūriki 231.

Notable Members

• Shimura Danzō — clan head, Hokage advisor, and former ANBU Director; he also led Root 223 234 325.
• Shimura Tan — a rising ninja nearing promotion to jōnin, killed in the Land of Grass 223 234.
• Shimura Kō — Root member and Tan's elder brother; his death followed Tan's 234.
• Ding — Wind Release specialist dispatched to test the clan's techniques against a jinchūriki 231.
• Shimura Kōhi — Guardian Ninja captain assassinated while protecting the Land of Grass Daimyō 251.
• Shimura Hyōya — Guardian Ninja who sought to join Root, but was refused amid attacks on clan members 309.

Major Arcs

• Attacks on clan members: Assassinations claimed Tan, Kō, Root personnel, and other Shimura ninja. After the deaths of her husband and both sons, Tan and Kō's mother confronted Danzō over the clan's losses; she was subsequently rendered unable to speak 234 244.
• Land of Grass losses: Shimura Kōhi and other clan Guardian Ninja were killed in an attack staged around the Daimyō's camp. Later losses among the Land of Grass guards further weakened the clan's ability to retain the Daimyō's trust and its lucrative mission quota 251 313 349.
• Root recruitment: With Shimura casualties mounting, Danzō judged further recruitment from his own clan unrealistic and sought personnel from other Konoha clans. He later stopped accepting Shimura ninja into Root while the threat associated with Sarutobi Kinosuke remained unresolved 242 244 309.
• Decline: After relinquishing the ANBU directorship, Danzō hesitated when asked whether the clan could provide another elite jōnin as deputy director. The clan's losses were later identified as the first major blow in a wider reshuffling of Konoha's political power 325 503.
