Background

Dai Mubai was the Third Prince of the Star Luo Empire and a contender in the imperial succession struggle. He believed Zhu Zhuqing was meant to be his fiancée and confronted Dai Mobai in court after Dai Mobai took Zhu Zhuyun and showed interest in Zhu Zhuqing. His attack failed decisively, and Dai Mobai severely injured him in front of the Star Luo Emperor and Duke Spirit Cat Zhu Song. 1 2

Dai Mubai and Dai Mobai are twins, with Dai Mobai occupying the position of elder brother. Dai Mubai regarded his brother's superiority in strength and prospects for the throne as particularly intolerable because of their shared birth. He also feared repeating the humiliation of their eldest brother, Dai Weisi, whom Dai Mobai had defeated in the contest over Zhu Zhuyun. 1 2 9

After recovering, Dai Mubai became consumed by resentment over the Emperor and Zhu Song favoring Dai Mobai. He called upon You Lian, a woman whose life he had saved three years earlier, and ordered her to infiltrate Dai Mobai's residence under the pretense of an apology and assassinate him. 3

While awaiting You Lian's return, Dai Mubai became anxious but rejected the possibility of failure. He believed her charm and the beguiling abilities of her Soul-Sucking Demon Bat martial soul would prevent Dai Mobai from escaping an attack at close range. 6

You Lian was killed by Dai Mobai. Her severed head was subsequently placed on Dai Mubai's pillow by Li Yue, causing him to panic. Convinced that Dai Mobai possessed a hidden Soul Emperor-level subordinate capable of entering his bedchamber unseen, Dai Mubai killed two guards in rage and fled Star Luo overnight. 5 6 7

The Star Luo Emperor stripped Dai Mubai of his title after his flight and named Dai Mobai Crown Prince. Dai Mubai later joined Shrek Academy in the Heaven Dou Empire, where he became Tang San's classmate and the leader of the Shrek Seven Devils. 7 38 51

Despite abandoning the palace, Dai Mubai remained resentful and vowed to return. During his exhausted flight on horseback, he looked back toward Star Luo City and declared that he would come back. 8

Appearance

Dai Mubai is a tall, sturdy blond youth with heterochromatic eyes. His build becomes larger and more bestial when he activates his martial soul. 1 48

Personality

Dai Mubai is jealous, prideful, and deeply resentful of Dai Mobai. His anger stems from being eclipsed by his brother in power, imperial favor, and the competition surrounding Zhu Zhuqing. He repeatedly interprets Dai Mobai's calmness as humiliation and provocation. 1 3 50

He is impulsive when affronted, attacking Dai Mobai in court and later arranging an assassination rather than accepting his defeat. When threatened beyond his ability to control the situation, however, he becomes fearful and desperate; the delivery of You Lian's head drives him to abandon Star Luo. 1 3 6 7

His ambitions are possessive: he insists that both the throne and Zhu Zhuqing belong exclusively to him. During the court confrontation, his resentment escalates into an explicitly lethal attack aimed at Dai Mobai's neck. 1 3

At Shrek Academy, he acts as Ma Hongjun's senior and “Boss Dai.” He remains hostile toward Dai Mobai and initially attempts to flee upon recognizing him in Suotuo City, only confronting him when Ma Hongjun loudly exposes his identity. 48 49 50

Imperial Succession Conflict

Dai Mubai challenges Dai Mobai at court over Zhu Zhuqing and his resentment toward his brother. He is defeated, injured, and humiliated before the imperial court. 1 2

He initially seeks the Emperor's intervention, but the ministers—including Zhu Song—avoid taking his side. After Dai Mobai slaps him for addressing his elder brother by name, Dai Mubai activates White Tiger—Vajra Transformation and attacks with lethal intent. Dai Mobai blocks the attack and counters, breaking Dai Mubai's protective barrier. Dai Mubai's subsequent appeal to Zhu Song, whom he addresses as “father-in-law,” receives no support. 1 2

Assassination Attempt and Flight

He sends You Lian to assassinate Dai Mobai. After her death, the placement of her severed head in his bedchamber terrifies him into fleeing Star Luo; he loses his princely title and succession position. 3 5 6 7

His confidence in You Lian's seductive and mental-control abilities initially leads him to dismiss her delayed return as an unrelated complication. The discovery that an intruder could reach his pillow unnoticed overturns that confidence. Although he flees in fear, he later vows to return to Star Luo. 6 7 8

Shrek Academy

Dai Mubai resurfaces in the Heaven Dou Empire as a Shrek Academy student, Tang San's classmate, and leader of the Shrek Seven Devils. His whereabouts become relevant to Dai Mobai's broader plans concerning Tang San. 38 51

Dai Mobai explicitly identifies Dai Mubai's movements as a means of indirectly monitoring Tang San. Zhu Song interprets this connection as evidence that Dai Mobai's preparations extend back to Dai Mubai's flight three years earlier. 38

Suotuo City Encounter

Dai Mubai encounters Dai Mobai in Suotuo City after three years apart. He tries to avoid recognition, but Ma Hongjun calls out his name. When he refuses to address Dai Mobai as his brother, Dai Mobai orders Li Yue to attack; she effortlessly breaks Dai Mubai's barrier, strikes him across the face, and injures him. 48 50 51

After the clash, Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun are left kneeling with swollen right cheeks. Tang San arrives and confronts Dai Mobai on their behalf. 53

Oscar's account of the defeat leads Tang San to conclude that Li Yue's soul power must be far above Dai Mubai's level 37, estimating that she is at least a Soul Emperor. Xiao Wu accompanies Tang San and likewise reacts angrily to the injured Shrek students. 52 53
