Background

Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village near Nuoding City. Tang Hao first appeared there twelve years earlier, and Tang San is identified as Tang Hao's son. 38

Three years before the destruction of Holy Soul Village, Tang San and Xiao Wu returned there to find Tang Hao gone; Tang Hao had left a letter instructing Tang San to travel the world and not search for him. 44

Holy Soul Village was later annihilated in a single night. Tang Hao, driven by his belief that the villagers had leaked information about Ah Yin's spirit bone, personally destroyed the village with his Clear Sky Hammer and killed its inhabitants. 42 Tang San remains unaware that his father was responsible. Upon hearing that every household had been destroyed, he is overcome with distress and immediately leaves the conversation. 43 He worries for Tang Hao but recognizes that his father had already left the village, giving him hope that Tang Hao survived. 44

Tang San is normally calm, measured, and decisive. When Oscar reports that Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun have been defeated, Tang San first asks for the facts, assesses Li Yue's likely strength, and directs Oscar to seek reinforcements while he and Xiao Wu investigate. 51 52

He is deeply attached to Holy Soul Village and its people. News of its destruction leaves him grieving for Old Jack and the other villagers, and he vows to find the person responsible and make them pay with their life. 43 44

Tang San is fiercely protective of Xiao Wu. He attempts to restrain Ma Hongjun when Ma Hongjun moves against her, then reveals the Clear Sky Hammer and strikes Ma Hongjun after his control skills fail. 56 57 58 He continues to shield Xiao Wu while Tai Tan carries them away from Yang Wudi, and later promises that he will protect her regardless of the danger she faces. 64 68

Holy Soul Village's Destruction

Tang San learns that Holy Soul Village has been annihilated and reacts with immediate shock and grief. 43 With Xiao Wu at his side, he resolves to identify and kill the person responsible. 44

Unknown to Tang San, the village was destroyed by Tang Hao, who believed its residents had exposed the location of Ah Yin's spirit bone. 42

Suotuo City Confrontation

While in Suotuo City, Tang San initially remains burdened by the tragedy until Yu Xiaogang instructs him to leave his emotional confinement behind. 47 48 He later responds to Oscar's plea for help after Li Yue defeats Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun. 51 52

Tang San confronts Dai Mobai over the treatment of his companions, arguing that Ma Hongjun's attempt to approach Li Yue did not justify the violence used against him. 53 He is then trapped with his group inside an encirclement of more than eighty Soul Masters. 54

Defense of Xiao Wu

When Ma Hongjun chooses Xiao Wu as the person he will target, Tang San uses Blue Silver Entanglement and Spiderweb Restraint to stop him. 56 Ma Hongjun's flames burn through the Blue Silver Grass, forcing Tang San to reveal the Clear Sky Hammer and strike him down. 57 58

Yang Wudi's Attack

Yang Wudi recognizes the Clear Sky Hammer and asks Tang San's relationship to Tang Hao. 58 Once Tang San confirms that Tang Hao is his father, Yang Wudi summons the Soulbreaking Spear and launches a lethal thrust toward Tang San's throat. 58

Tai Tan intercepts the attack and confronts Yang Wudi, exposing his continuing loyalty to Tang Hao and the former Clear Sky Sect affiliation. 59 60 Tang San is shocked to learn that Tai Tan is an eighty-sixth-rank Soul Douluo who addresses Tang Hao as “Master,” leading him to suspect that his father is far more than the blacksmith he knew. 61

Tai Tan ultimately uses a feint to withdraw with Tang San and Xiao Wu. Yang Wudi does not pursue after Dai Mobai orders him to prioritize other matters. 64

Departure for Heaven Dou City

Following Ma Hongjun's injury, Flender leaves to seek treatment through the Nine-Heart Begonia martial soul. 67 Yu Xiaogang arranges for Tang San, Xiao Wu, Tai Tan, and their allies to depart for Heaven Dou City, where the Strength Clan can better protect Tang San. 67
