Background / History

The Star Luo Emperor presides over a royal succession system described as a brutal “insect-jar-like” struggle. During Dai Mubai and Dai Mobai’s public confrontation, he remains motionless on the dragon throne and does not intervene. When Dai Mobai severely injures Dai Mubai, however, he orders him to spare his brother’s life. 1 2

After Dai Mubai flees Star Luo City, the Emperor reacts with fury to the intelligence report. He strips Dai Mubai of his princely status, expels him from the Dai family genealogy, appoints Dai Mobai Crown Prince, and grants Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing the title of Crown Princess. He considers Dai Mubai’s flight a disgraceful break from Star Luo’s tradition that princes die in battle rather than run. 7

He had ruled Star Luo for more than twenty years by the time Dai Mobai reached level 40, and was himself the strongest prince of his generation. Even so, Dai Mobai attained level 40 at an age younger than the Emperor had. 8

Before taking the throne, he built his prestige through military victories rather than bloodline alone. His campaigns, particularly the Northwest Campaign, became foundational examples of Star Luo martial leadership and ensured that his authority was not questioned after his accession. 94 95

His father, the former Emperor, is in secluded death meditation and has declared that he will emerge only if the empire faces destruction. Although the Star Luo Emperor claims to have faced his father's intimidation as calmly as Dai Mobai faces his own, his private recollection reveals that he had immediately knelt when summoned to the Imperial Study. By Dai Mobai’s return from Heaven Dou, the Emperor had been stuck at Rank 95 for nearly a decade. Zhu Song proves more capable of military command than complex administration, leaving important unresolved matters for Dai Mobai. Recognizing the Crown Prince's successful administration and political judgment, he earnestly offers to pass the throne to Dai Mobai. His son refuses, preferring to remain Crown Prince for another decade or so rather than immediately take on the exhausting workload of an emperor. Personality

The Emperor is controlled, intimidating, and highly conscious of imperial authority. He commonly suppresses his emotions behind an unreadable expression, although his breathing, violent aura, and rare flashes of shock reveal the intensity beneath that restraint. 1 2 7 17

He is pragmatic and ambitious. Rather than rejecting Dai Mobai’s unconventional proposals, he recognizes their strategic value: he backs the whale-glue scheme, accepts plans to undermine Spirit Hall, and supports operations against Heaven Dou. 18 20 22 37 38

His relationship with Dai Mobai develops into unusual openness and mutual respect. He permits his son to challenge him verbally, takes pride in his achievements, and increasingly entrusts him with national strategy. 17 21 33 38

Though he cultivates an image of absolute composure, he becomes privately anxious when Dai Mobai faces Heaven Dou’s army at Suotuo City. The battle report relieves this anxiety and leads him to openly display intense paternal pride before the court. 92 93

Following Dai Mobai’s return from Heaven Dou City, the Emperor learns that his son obtained Immortal Herbs to address his decade-long Rank 95 bottleneck. Dai Mobai presents the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum, which strengthens the body, clears the meridians, and is particularly suited to the Dai Clan’s White Tiger martial soul. 160 161

The Emperor elects to refine the herb under controlled conditions and enters seclusion to pursue Rank 96. His projected breakthrough is regarded by Zhu Song and the imperial faction as a major increase in Star Luo’s national strength. 161 170 174

At the same time, he considers Heaven Dou’s peace proposal to cede the Balak Kingdom and send Princess Xue Ke in marriage to Dai Mobai. Together with the Crown Prince, he treats the arrangement as an opportunity to bind Heaven Dou, prevent it from withdrawing from the agreement, and exploit the political importance of Xue Beng’s return. 161

Return from Seclusion and Recognition of the Regent

After months of cultivation, the Emperor emerges from the Imperial Forbidden Land at Rank 96. He marvels at his greatly increased strength before returning directly to the Hall of Supreme Harmony and summoning the court. Expecting that Dai Mobai's inexperience will have produced administrative problems, he encourages ministers to report freely and assures them that neither they nor the Crown Prince will be blamed. 203

The court's silence initially leads him to believe that officials are reluctant to criticize Dai Mobai. Zhu Song instead explains that the Crown Prince managed affairs in an orderly fashion without errors, recruited the Speed Clan to address weaknesses in imperial intelligence, and established the Directorate of Astronomy with Xu Lan as its head. Bai He and Xu Lan then step forward and formally pay respects as subjects, surprising the Emperor because both had refused his previous recruitment attempts. 203 204

Following court, he visits Dai Mobai at Taihu Lake. He briefly takes amusement in his son's failure to land a large fish, then asks how he secured his political successes. Dai Mobai's cryptic fishing-themed response leaves him baffled. Despite this teasing exchange, the Emperor sincerely praises the regency and proposes handing over the throne; Dai Mobai refuses because he wishes to avoid the burdens of immediate accession. 204 205

Marriage Exchange and Spirit Hall Confrontation

The Emperor reminds Dai Mobai that the Heaven Dou princess will arrive in seven days. When his son requests Dai Zhenshan's assistance, he initially questions the need for protection because Star Luo already holds Barak City and Heaven Dou itself proposed the marriage. Dai Mobai explains that the danger lies with factions threatened by Xue Beng's return, especially Xue Qinghe. 205

Their discussion develops into an assessment of the Heaven Dou Crown Prince's legitimacy. The Emperor initially considers the idea of an impostor implausible because a different martial soul should expose the substitution. Dai Mobai explains how a Soul Bone could disguise a sufficiently similar martial soul, prompting the Emperor to recognize Spirit Hall as the power capable of executing such an infiltration. He also suspects that Spirit Hall sent the Titled Douluo who attacked Dai Mobai during his earlier journey. 206

He gives Dai Mobai full support and promises to have the requested assistance report to the East Palace. Neither Emperor attends the marriage exchange personally; Dai Mobai represents Star Luo at Barak City while Xue Qinghe escorts Xue Ke on Heaven Dou's behalf. 207

After Dai Mobai returns to Star Luo City, the Emperor waits for him in the East Palace study. He praises his son's declaration that the emperor guards the gates and the king dies for his realm, then warns that exposing Qian Renxue has made Spirit Hall an enemy as well. Dai Mobai argues that openly retaliating would expose Spirit Hall's replacement of another empire's crown prince and risk united opposition from the continent's powers.
