Background / History

Shrek is regarded as the continent’s premier academy and was the defining institution of Shrek City, alongside the Spirit Pagoda headquarters. Its prestige drew elite Soul Masters, and its inner court fielded championship-level students for major soul-fighting tournaments 19 55.

The academy’s leadership structure includes the Sea God Pavilion and its elders. Mu En, the Dragon God Douluo, was among its senior figures, while Yun Ming later served as Pavilion Master and the continent’s acknowledged strongest man 68 70 127.

During an inner-court soul-hunting expedition, Elder Xuan Zi’s negligence drew the Hundred-Thousand-Year Blood Moon Wolf King into the mixed zone of the Star Dou Forest. Eight inner-court disciples died, and Xuan Zi intended to blame Evil Soul Masters rather than accept responsibility 55 58. The incident shattered Zhang Lexuan’s faith in the academy, though she still retained complicated loyalty to Mu En and Shrek’s role as her refuge after her family’s destruction 58 59 68.

Shrek later sent an inner-court team to the Skysea Alliance Grand Competition as both a final opponent and an informal selection test for Eastsea Academy’s Class Zero. The Shrek team lost the final, after which Shen Yi attempted to recruit Yang Fan and Class Zero into the academy 123 126.

Organization and Training

• Sea God Pavilion — Shrek’s highest leadership body, responsible for major decisions, elite disciples, and academy policy 55 123.
• Inner Court — Houses Shrek’s foremost students and sends elite teams to obtain high-level soul rings or represent the academy in combat events 55 123.
• Outer Court — Includes the junior team that overwhelmingly defeated the Skysea Alliance’s youth champions in a cross-age exhibition match 120.
• Devil Island — A North Sea military training ground associated with Shrek. Students who complete its special training reportedly undergo drastic changes in temperament and remain silent about their experiences 133.
• Seven Old Devils — Former members of a generation of Shrek Seven Monsters who became trapped on Devil Island for nearly a thousand years 134.

Reputation and Internal Problems

Shrek’s reputation rests on its long history, accumulation of talent, and ability to produce exceptional Soul Masters. Its name alone provokes public enthusiasm, as seen when its competitors entered the Skysea Alliance finals 124.

However, several events expose severe problems beneath that prestige:

• Elder Xuan Zi regarded the deaths of inner-court disciples as acceptable losses and believed that only survivors qualified as Shrek’s true elites 58.
• Zhang Lexuan concludes that the academy treated the deaths caused by Xuan Zi’s negligence with hypocrisy and indifference 59.
• Shen Yi and other loyalists remain convinced that Shrek’s accumulated legacy and resources make it superior to rival institutions, even after its students lose to Class Zero 123 126.
• After Shrek City’s destruction, Long Yeyue prioritizes evacuating inner-court elites and preserving Shrek’s “Core Flame” over remaining to protect the city’s civilians from the Holy Spirit Cult’s plague 131.

Destruction of Shrek City

The Holy Spirit Cult attacked Shrek City ahead of schedule using Godslayer-class Soul Guidance Cannon shells. The initial blast annihilated numerous Titled Douluos and inner-court disciples, while the city itself collapsed under the bombardment 127.

Yun Ming used his divine seat in an attempt to halt the calamity and preserve a path to resurrection and godhood. Before his body faded, he entrusted the Skycrosser Spear to Long Yeyue 127.

Following the attack, the Holy Spirit Cult released a plague and biochemical poison gas around the ruined city. Ya Li exhausted her Soul Power stopping the outbreak after Shrek’s surviving elites had already departed 131.

Reconstruction

Long Yeyue formally assumes leadership after Yun Ming’s fall and announces plans to preserve Shrek’s legacy through reconstruction 132. The Federation initially promises assistance, but Shrek’s decision to relocate its surviving members to Monster Academy on the Star Luo Continent causes the Federation to redirect reconstruction resources to Spirit Academy and Ming Capital Academy instead 132 133.

Relationships

• Federation — Shrek was historically a major Federation institution, but relations deteriorate after its survivors relocate to the Star Luo Continent rather than rebuild locally 132 133.
• Tang Sect — A longstanding influential counterpart; its headquarters is destroyed in the same Godslayer attack that devastates Shrek City 127 131.
• Spirit Pagoda — Both organizations held major influence in Shrek City, but the Spirit Pagoda capitalizes on Shrek’s fall by establishing Spirit Academy as a new center for talented youth 19 132.
• Monster Academy — Hosts Shrek’s planned new base on the Star Luo Continent following the destruction of Shrek City 133.
• North Sea Legion — Guards the region surrounding Devil Island, Shrek’s secluded training ground 133.
