Background / History

Zi Ji first appears at the battlefield left by Liu Erlong's defeat of the Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear. Drawn by the Dragon Qi and a trace of a newborn Dragon King's bloodline, she examines the destruction, concludes that the matter concerns the Star Dou Great Forest, and returns to report to Emperor Heaven. Jiang Ce secretly leaves a venom fragment on her shoe sole before she departs. 30

At Life Lake, Zi Ji reports that Liu Erlong possesses unusual power-boosting abilities. When the Imperial Auspicious Beast disappears, she joins Emperor Heaven in searching for her while supporting Red King's efforts to recover the missing beast. 31

Zi Ji accompanies Emperor Heaven to confront Liu Erlong's group outside the forest. She becomes enraged when Jiang Ce insults Emperor Heaven and accuses him of bewitching the Imperial Auspicious Beast; the Auspicious Beast intervenes to stop her from attacking. 32

The venom Jiang Ce had planted activates beneath Zi Ji's foot and infiltrates her through gaps in her dragon scales. She attempts to cut away the infected areas, while Emperor Heaven unsuccessfully tries to purge the parasite with dark energy. The venom ultimately binds itself to her soul core, making separation impossible. 33

During Jiang Ce's Golden Dragon King manifestation, Zi Ji is forcibly drawn into and incorporated into the fusion body. She experiences power sufficient to suppress Emperor Heaven, leaving her conflicted despite the coercive circumstances. 33

Afterward, Zi Ji and Emperor Heaven are assigned to organize Soul Beasts, distribute resources, and prevent internal conflict as part of Jiang Ce's plan to strengthen the plane. Though resentful of Jiang Ce's treatment, Zi Ji later acknowledges that Soul Beasts must change to avoid being gradually consumed by humans and agrees to try Bi Ji's education initiative. 36 42 43

She initially resists Jiang Ce's symbiote and resents the loss of bodily autonomy it brings. However, she is pragmatic enough to recognize the power it grants and the need for Soul Beasts to develop beyond the law of the jungle. 33 42 43
