Background / History

Over a century before the main story, a young Qian Daoliu was pursued by enemies until Duan Changsheng saved him. Duan taught him a cultivation method and several self-created spirit skills during their brief encounter. Qian Daoliu regarded him as his lifelong teacher despite Duan's repeated refusal to formally accept him as a disciple. He credits this encounter for everything he later achieved. 14

Qian Daoliu married a woman who had recently suffered heartbreak; they knew each other for roughly a month before marrying. Their son, Qian Xunji, was born prematurely, and Qian Daoliu's wife died a few years later due to declining health. 14

He became Spirit Hall's Grand Consecrator and an Angel God High Priest, a position that prevented him from becoming a god. His status gave him authority over the Elder Hall and the power to remove Bibi Dong from the papacy. 15

Personality

Qian Daoliu is intensely devoted to those he recognizes as his own. His loyalty to Duan Changsheng has lasted more than a century, and he remains determined to call Duan his teacher even without formal recognition. 14

His devotion to Bo Saixi was equally obsessive and one-sided. He interpreted her past words as encouragement meant specifically for him, competed openly with Tang Chen for her affection, and was willing to give up his High Priest position to be with her. Bo Saixi ultimately clarified that she had only ever considered both men friends. 4 5

As Spirit Hall's Grand Consecrator, he is domineering and protective of its prestige. He publicly defends Wang Yuyan, suppresses Bibi Dong when she challenges his authority, and uses Duan Changsheng's acknowledged connection to strengthen Spirit Hall's position. 15 21

Story Role / Major Arcs

Love Saint Ranking and the Bo Saixi rivalry

Qian Daoliu ranked sixth on the Love Saint Ranking, which described his love as blindly loyal and unregretful until death. He went to the seaside to meet Bo Saixi, only to clash with Tang Chen over their competing beliefs that she loved them. 4

Bo Saixi stopped their battle and later rejected both men, revealing that she had loved Duan Changsheng for a century. Qian Daoliu nevertheless tried to preserve hope and change his approach. 5

Reunion with Duan Changsheng

After the Scumbag Ranking exposed Qian Xunji, Duan Changsheng visited the Angel Temple to seek protection and status for Wang Yuyan. Qian Daoliu immediately recognized him, knelt, and renewed his insistence on treating Duan as his teacher. 13 14

Duan corrected Qian Daoliu's flawed use of the techniques he had taught him. In return, Qian Daoliu promised to protect Wang Yuyan and gave Duan more than one hundred jars of prized wine. 15

Wang Yuyan's appointment

Learning that Hu Liena had slandered Wang Yuyan, Qian Daoliu slapped Hu Liena and threatened harsher punishment if she continued. He then ordered Bibi Dong to appoint Wang Yuyan as Spirit Hall's Adjudication Saintess with the status and authority of an Elder. 15

He later welcomed Wang Yuyan personally, allowed her unrestricted entry to the Angel Temple, and acted on her recommendation to issue a warrant for Tang Hao and pressure the Clear Sky Sect. 32

Battle with Tang Chen and Spirit Hall's guardian

Tang Chen challenged Qian Daoliu outside Spirit City. Qian Daoliu fought him with the Heaven Measuring Sword and his Six-Winged Angel Spirit Avatar. 18

When Tang Chen used divine ring detonation to temporarily reach level 100, Qian Daoliu used One Finger Zen to stop the first devastating strike. He was unable to resist Tang Chen's subsequent ultimate attack until Duan Changsheng intervened. 20

Qian Daoliu publicly addressed Duan Changsheng as “Teacher” as he departed, effectively tying his mentor to Spirit Hall's defense. Duan did not deny it, allowing Qian Daoliu to establish him as Spirit Hall's guardian and deter its enemies. 21

Pursuit of godhood

Following the Combat Power Ranking rewards, Qian Daoliu was released from his Angel God High Priest status and gained eligibility to inherit the Angel God position. 37

Before entering death seclusion, he ordered Golden Crocodile Douluo to protect Wang Yuyan and keep her connection to Duan Changsheng secret. He intends to become a god before Bibi Dong. 37
