Background

Yu Xiaogang presents himself as an authority on love and martial-soul theory. He insists that the meaning of a “Love Saint” is based on sincere feelings rather than the number of partners, while claiming that his own love theory is invincible 1 2.

He became Tang San's teacher and conducted special training for Shrek Academy students. His standing as an instructor deteriorated after both he and Tang San occupied the top two positions on the Scumbag Ranking; the students rejected his training and moved to have him expelled from the academy 12.

Yu Xiaogang is the son of Yu Yuanzhen, Sect Master of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect. Following Yu Xiaogang's placement on the Scumbag Ranking and the ensuing disgrace, Yu Yuanzhen publicly expelled him, barred him from the ancestral hall for life, and disowned him 12.

Appearance

Yu Xiaogang is repeatedly preoccupied with preserving what he calls his “dashing” or “handsome” face, although others openly dispute this self-assessment 3 11.

Yu Xiaogang is exceptionally narcissistic and self-deluded, particularly regarding romance. He interprets ordinary compliments from Bibi Dong as proof that she loves him, dismissing her direct rejection and continuing to insist that she wants a life and children with him 8.

He is also arrogant about his intellect and theories. He threatens Ma Hongjun with additional training for doubting the Sky Screen, assumes strangers surrounding him in Spirit City must be fans seeking autographs or love advice, and initially treats the Scumbag Ranking as a possible route to stronger cultivation 2 10.

His confidence collapses under humiliation. After failing to enter the Love Saint Ranking, he questions whether his love theory is worthless; after the public beating in Spirit City, he becomes desperate, pleading for his attackers not to strike his face 6 11.

• Tang San — Disciple. Yu Xiaogang nearly threatened to expel Tang San when Tang San questioned his belief that Bibi Dong loved him; their relationship later became a source of mutual public disgrace when they ranked first and second on the Scumbag Ranking 3 12.

Love Saint Ranking

Yu Xiaogang expects to rank among the top three due to his claimed feelings for Bibi Dong and Liu Erlong. After cursing the Sky Screen for not placing him highly, he is struck by heavenly lightning, leaving him numb and blackened 2 3.

He remains convinced that Bibi Dong's placement on the Love Saint Ranking proves her devotion to him. His insistence creates tension with Tang San and reveals his self-delusion to the other Shrek students 3.

Yu Xiaogang ultimately fails to enter the Love Saint Ranking. Devastated, he concludes that he must personally confess to Bibi Dong to prove his love theory and leaves for Spirit City 6.

Spirit City Rejection

Using Tang Hao's Pope's Decree, Yu Xiaogang enters the Pope's Palace without authorization and confronts Bibi Dong 7. He apologizes for a supposed breakup, recites compliments she gave him in the past as evidence of love, and asks to reunite with her 8.

Bibi Dong explains that she regarded him only as a friend, rejects him completely, and orders Ghost Douluo to seize the decree and throw him out of Spirit Hall 8.

Scumbag Ranking and Public Punishment

Yu Xiaogang places second on the Scumbag Ranking. The Sky Screen describes him as filthy at heart, unfaithful, a “toad lusting after swan meat,” and deeply delusional about Bibi Dong 10.

In Spirit City, he mistakes an enraged gathering for admirers seeking his autograph or romantic advice. The crowd attacks him for insulting the Pope through his fantasies 10 11.

He briefly escapes using Luo Sanpao's gas skills, but is recaptured after his Poison Gas Bomb backfires. The crowd organizes a Teacher-Abuse Assembly, with healing-type soul masters keeping him alive and physically able to endure repeated beatings 11.

The punishment leaves him physically and mentally broken. Bibi Dong initially expresses indifference to his fate, but orders that he be removed from Spirit City rather than die there because of the possible political consequences with Yu Yuanzhen; Chrysanthemum Douluo secretly rescues and abandons him in the wilderness 12.
