At eighteen, she approached Ling Yi out of attraction and curiosity. They subsequently fought together against Mad Tiger and Mad Lion in the Dragon Rising Soul Fighting Arena. Expecting to protect a Healing System Soul Master, she was surprised by Ling Yi’s speed, timing, and practical combat ability. At her invitation, they became traveling teammates after he returned to settle his military affairs 167 170 171 172.

Training and the Breaking Clan’s intervention

Ling Yi treated her accumulated injuries and taught her body-tempering methods, supplementing training with medicinal food and healing. She mastered the twelve forms of the Basic Body Tempering Technique and began learning expanded Xingyi forms. Jade Rakshasa and the fifth-ring hunt

In Heaven Dou City, Yang Shelly established herself as the Jade Rakshasa. Over three months, she defeated every Soul Ancestor opponent she faced apart from Ah Yin, who could match her. The arena eventually stopped accepting bets on her ordinary same-realm matches because her victories made them unprofitable 275.

She later accompanied Ling Yi into the Star Dou Great Forest to obtain her fifth ring. When the Titan Giant Ape carried him away inside his protective metal sphere, she was injured trying to intervene. The incident forced her to confront how much her attention had shifted from decisive action toward romance and rivalry 322 332 335.

Determined to rescue him, she killed an 18,000-year One-Horned Flame Dragon Beast alone, suffering shattered bones, torn muscles, and extensive meridian damage. After recovering through her armor’s healing array and stored Soul Power, she absorbed its ring and became a Soul King. Her subsequent advance toward the forest’s core ended in a near-fatal ambush by a giant black tiger. Ling Yi returned just in time to remove the Starry Sky Fireworks she had activated 336 337 341.

After their reunion, she took a more assertive approach to Ling Yi, and their relationship became intimate 351 352.

Lingyun City and later battles

Yang Shelly continued refining her spear techniques under Ling Yi and developed Martial Soul Fusion Skills with both him and Ah Yin. Her partial withdrawal from the Breaking Clan was quietly tolerated: she belonged to a collateral branch, had not inherited its pure Soul Breaking Spear, and had the backing of Ling Yi’s growing influence 392 419 431 432.

Her loyalties were tested in the confrontation with Tang Hao. Despite her parents’ position within a clan subordinate to the Clear Sky Sect, she was prepared to oppose him. Her parents had already agreed to leave the Breaking Clan and settle in Lingyun City if necessary 432.

She later became director of Lingyun City’s Commerce Bureau and led the Green Wood Merchant Association’s Guard Team across the continent. Reports of victories over higher-level opponents spread the Jade Rakshasa name, while her fusion partnership with Ah Yin drew comparisons to the Clear Sky Twin Stars 516 565.

Side stories

In another world, Xue Qianxun discovered that Yang Shelly’s counterpart had died with her parents during a Spirit Hall attack on their caravan thirteen years earlier. Shelly distinguished those people from her own family, explaining that her living parents were managing the Green Wood Merchant Association’s affairs in Liang Province 639.

She later supported sending Xiao Wu to train under Feng Wu. She advised Xiao Wu to avoid challenges for a year and return her borrowed Azure Wood Battle Armor and waist token before leaving 650.

Yang Shelly is outspoken, forceful, and deeply competitive. Fighting interests her far more than forging, and she repeatedly seeks sparring partners even after mastering their patterns. Her Breaking Clan upbringing reinforces a refusal to yield: defeat prompts another attempt rather than resignation 172 186 214 352.

Her aggression can become a liability. Early in her career, she accepts potentially fatal exchanges rather than defend, and she sometimes grows increasingly violent as a fight continues. Ling Yi does not try to erase this temperament; his guidance develops her own combat path while improving her judgment and supporting abilities 169 224.

Around Ling Yi, she initially becomes softer, easily flustered, and intensely admiring. Her desire to protect him and remain beside him drives much of her cultivation, while jealousy of Ah Yin fuels additional effort. His abduction restores her decisive streak, and she later becomes much more direct about pursuing him 167 172 273 318 335 351 370.

Her travels also improve her social judgment. By the Yasuo City encounter, she can manage introductions and family etiquette with a tact unusual among the Breaking Clan’s blunt-spoken members 234.
