Jin Bihan was originally raised as a princess intended for a political marriage, studying music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Her circumstances changed abruptly when she became Crown Princess and vowed to avenge her brother and protect Dunhuang's throne. Her position was precarious: powerful ministers, generals, and princes all stood against a young female heir, while her imperial father was critically ill. 41 46

To cultivate strength without attracting attention, she entered Heavenly Song Academy disguised as the male scholar Shi Jiaming.
