Background

Li Xiaoyao first appears as a newly arrived Outer Sect disciple at Early Golden Core. Although he presents himself as friendly and deferential toward Ye Lin, Ye Lin’s panel identifies him as a Smiling Tiger: outwardly refined but inwardly dark-hearted, with a tendency to harm those close to him. His original projected destiny was to stagnate at peak Mahayana before dying in the Boundless Sea to three Mahayana sea beasts. 148

At this stage, Li Xiaoyao’s Fate Rank is only Yellow despite his extraordinary Fate Traits and exceptional fortune. His Innate Sword Body and pre-existing Sword Intent allow him to ascend the Heavenly Path with unusual ease. 148 155

Qingfeng True Person recognizes a bond of fate with Li Xiaoyao and accepts him as a true disciple. Li later works in the Inner Sect’s points-trading business and operates a flying-ship trade, concealing considerable wealth behind an intentionally modest residence. 157 314 315

Li Xiaoyao is distinct from Ye Lin’s incarnation named Xiaoyao. The incarnation introduced during the Southern Continent journey is explicitly a clone refined by Ye Lin, initially lacking a complete personality. His resurrection through the Sword Heart Demon Seed raises him to peak Mahayana and also raises Ye Lin’s cultivation; his identical appearance and aura confuse his disciple Ye Yun. Li Xiaoyao’s personality was divided between his outwardly simple, childlike disposition and a suppressed, violent consciousness. Ye Lin describes the simple-minded Xiaoyao as a pure-minded state, while the personality that endured past torment remained buried within his Primordial Spirit and could seize control during battle. The suppressed consciousness was driven by resentment toward those who humiliated and tormented him, repeatedly demanding possession of Xiaoyao’s body so it could destroy everyone who ever bullied them. 3451

Soon after entering the Primordial Unity Mystic Immortal realm, Li Xiaoyao accompanies Ye Lin to the Blazing Fire Heaven Sect. He defeats Sect Master Ji Xingchen with a single punch, shatters Ji’s Chains of Laws, and easily overpowers the intervening elder Dongfang Shengxu as well. 3333 3335

Li Xiaoyao conceals his Primordial Unity Mystic Immortal cultivation behind an early True Immortal aura to pursue Enlightenment Pills. He kills Zhao Wuji and Xiao Tian with single punches, repeatedly pretends to be remorseful and exhausted, then finally reveals his true realm. 3395 3401 3406

His performance convinces Wang Tian’s father Wang Dong and grandfather Wang Chenfeng that he is a grateful young genius whose life should be preserved even at the cost of forfeiting the competition. Li Xiaoyao defeats Buddhist cultivators encountered by the group and later fights on the Qilin Clan’s side against the Buddhist forces. His ability to contend with Li Changsheng makes the latter’s subordinates comparatively easy opponents, and his victories inspire the Qilin soldiers to counterattack. During the group’s stay with Black Emperor, Li Xiaoyao leaves alone without explanation. Ye Lin does not restrict him, regarding his companions as free individuals rather than servants.
