Golden Immortals have nine layers, described as nine distinct “steps,” with each layer representing a major gap in strength 4009.

• Layers 1–3 — Golden Immortal Walkers: The lower realm of Golden Immortals. A newly ascended Golden Immortal such as Li Xiaoyao is considered a Walker. These layers are also described as the Traveler realm. 4009 4266

Three Flowers Above the Crown

Upon entering the Golden Immortal realm, cultivators begin nurturing the buds of the Three Flowers Above the Crown:

• Human Flower — corresponds to essence.
• Earth Flower — corresponds to qi.
• Heaven Flower — corresponds to spirit. 3956

The Golden Immortal realm marks the point at which a cultivator sheds the nature of an ordinary living being and steps onto the true path of cultivation. Once all three flowers bloom, they may attain Primordial Unity Golden Immortal cultivation. When the Three Flowers gather above the crown, the cultivator attains Great Luo Transcendence. 3956

Comprehension of Laws

Golden Immortals chiefly cultivate through comprehending, enlightening themselves in, and controlling laws. Individual minor-layer breakthroughs may not always create an overwhelming difference, but crossing several layers produces a qualitative increase in power. 4586

The gap between the sixth and seventh layers is especially pronounced. Even a sixth-layer Golden Immortal generally cannot kill a seventh-layer Golden Immortal, because the latter has entered the Saint realm. 4586

Ye Lin's sixth-layer breakthrough demonstrates the importance of understanding the relationships between laws: balancing the Five Elements Laws enables both his advancement and his escape from the secret realm containing them. 4784

• One Breath Becomes Three Purities: Ye Lin's particular cultivation route requires him to gather the complete technique so that his Three Corpses can merge into one. With the complete volumes, he can enter Golden Immortal in a single stroke; without them, he believes he cannot enter the realm in that lifetime. A Golden Immortal's perception can reach a vastly higher level than that of lower cultivators. After entering the first layer, Li Xiaoyao claims he can spread his divine sense across the entire Mist Map Star Region and kill detected targets with a thought. 4002

Golden Immortals can also perceive matters normally beyond ordinary cultivators, including karma, destiny, fortune, and powerful presences at the end of the River of Time. 4002

Interaction with Time and Karma

Golden Immortals can interfere with the River of Time, though such interference carries severe karmic consequences. A past war between Golden Immortals disrupted time and karma badly enough to bring ancient fallen Golden Immortals back into existence. 3798

The stronger a Golden Immortal is, the greater the restrictions imposed by karma, slaughter, and fortune. Killing a being carrying immense fortune can therefore bring severe backlash even upon a Golden Immortal. 3903

Severe injuries can take Golden Immortals thousands of years to recover from without appropriate assistance. Their elevated cultivation and life level require higher-grade recovery treasures; ordinary treasures are useless to them.
