Background

Origins and Ancient Ancestor

The Human Race is descended from an Ancient Ancestor born when Chaos qi filled the Star River Cosmos. This ancestor was invincible from birth through physical strength alone and nearly dominated the universe before departing for a more distant place. Modern humans retain only an extremely faint remnant of this bloodline. 2351

Although the Human Race is commonly believed to possess no innate bloodline, awakening the Ancient Ancestor bloodline can allow a human to surpass divine and immortal bodies in physical combat. 2351

A dream experienced by Ye Lin depicts a young man scattering his blood to create humanity; the humans born from that blood endure oppression and eventually become a powerful race. Ye Lin believed the figure may have been the Human Race’s creator. 2496

The Heaven-Devouring Demon Jar identified the Heaven Source Bottle as a means by which Ye Lin might awaken or purify his nearly vanished Ancient Ancestor bloodline. This was presented as a possibility rather than a guaranteed restoration of humanity’s ancestral power. 2351

Primordial and Ancient Eras

Human traditions also recount the rise of a figure known as the Heavenly Emperor during an earlier dark age. He united the Human Race, led it against hostile races, and raised it into the ranks of the peak races. 713

Before the Ancient Human Emperor’s rise, humans were treated as blood food and powerful Human Race cultivators were routinely hunted by the myriad races. 4017

To reverse this situation, the Human Race’s forebears used a secret art from the Chaos era to gamble their future fortune across tens of thousands of calamity cycles. The wager produced a supreme prodigy with Chaos aptitude: the Ancient Human Emperor. 5726

Under the Human Emperor, the Human Race counterattacked the myriad races, shattered the Heavenly Court, and rose to dominate the Star River Cosmos. Dozens of Primordial Unity Golden Immortals emerged during this Golden Age. 5726

The wager was made with the Heavenly Dao and exhausted the Human Race’s future potential. Failure would have meant the race’s permanent disappearance from the Star River Cosmos. The secret art could be used only once, preventing later generations from simply repeating the gamble. 5726

After conquering the Heavenly Court, the Human Emperor renamed it the Human Ancestor Hall and appointed himself its first Hall Master. Opposing Primordial Unity Golden Immortals subsequently surrendered and swore not to oppose the Human Race again. 4439 4440

Decline after the Human Emperor

The Human Emperor eventually left the Star River Cosmos, accompanied by several Human Race Primordial Unity Golden Immortals. The Human Race retained control during the following era, but the Divine Beast Clan later rebelled and triggered a wider revolt by the myriad races. 5487

The Human Race’s earlier gamble eventually caused a backlash in its fortune. Primordial Unity Golden Immortals fell one after another, and the race gradually lost the strength needed to suppress its old enemies. 5726

To preserve its remaining foundations, Human Race forebears allowed Aberrations to reside within the bodies of their Primordial Unity Golden Immortals, extending those cultivators’ lifespans while creating a new long-term danger. 5726

This arrangement was intended to buy time until another prodigy comparable to the Ancient Human Emperor emerged. However, the Aberrations continued growing stronger within their hosts, making the preservation of the race’s remaining powerhouses increasingly precarious. 5726

The race’s fortune could also obstruct the advancement of its most promising cultivators. Exalted Changsheng, also known as Chen Changsheng, had followed the Human Emperor and was considered a leading candidate for the Primordial Unity Golden Immortal Realm, but died from racial fortune backlash during his breakthrough. 4428

Survival through Prodigies

The Human Race’s continued existence is repeatedly attributed to the emergence of exceptional geniuses in successive generations. These prodigies have borne the race’s burdens during periods when ordinary Human Race cultivators lacked the strength to resist external oppression. 271 2770

Even when facing extinction-level crises, the Human Race has repeatedly produced heroes capable of reversing its situation. Its resilience is emphasized in both the Xuanhuang Great World and the Star River Cosmos, where such heroes have preserved its place among the great races. 1320 2770

Its inheritance is described as never having been severed since ancient times, despite the disappearance of many other races. This continuity does not mean every regional Human Race community is secure; isolated populations can still face enslavement or extermination. 453 2314 2742

Characteristics

  • Humans are generally described as physically frail at birth compared with many other races, whose offspring can survive and fight independently from birth. 2050
  • In the Myriad Demon Great World, humans required eighteen years to reach adulthood before beginning martial cultivation, while Demon Beasts were born powerful. 1799
  • Ordinary Human Race cultivators generally face poor odds against Demon Beasts of equal cultivation because of the beasts’ powerful bodies, though a sufficient realm advantage can overcome that disparity. 14
  • The Human Race possesses exceptional resilience; it has endured repeated near-extinction events and repeatedly recovered through the emergence of extraordinary prodigies. 1320 2770
  • Its racial fortune is closely tied to its population, territory, and number of powerful experts. 1804
  • Human Race prodigies can gather and amplify racial fortune, improving their comprehension, strength, and likelihood of survival. 2719
  • Other races frequently adopt human form because of the Ancient Human Emperor’s historical prestige, not because humans possess an inherently unique Dao body. 5044 5908
  • Earlier traditions attributed humanity’s survival to a possible connection with the Great Dao and claimed that other races adopted human form to seize its enduring fortune. Later explanations reject claims that humans are inherently children of the Dao or universally possess innate Dao Bodies. 2050 4017 5908
  • In the Eastern Continent’s ancient era, the Human Race was uniquely known for the art of alchemy, though it was forced to claim that certain powerful pill formulas had been destroyed while under oppression from stronger races. 572
  • Human Race cultivators can possess special constitutions and variant innate divine abilities, but awakening or comprehending divine abilities is exceptionally difficult for them. 6244 6630
  • Innate Dual Pupils and powerful constitutions are specifically identified as Human Race variants of innate divine abilities. 6630
  • Human appearance is not sufficient to establish racial identity. The Sword Clan resembles humans but is a separate race whose members are born with Sword Hearts; foreign cultivators can also transform into the appearance of individual humans. 2740 6434

Human Emperor Banner A treasure personally forged by the Human Emperor to suppress the Human Race’s destiny. 5742
Kongtong Seal An ancient Human Race treasure elevated into a Dao artifact through prolonged nurturing by racial destiny. 5742

Fortune and Destiny

The Human Race’s destiny has repeatedly been treated as both its greatest resource and its greatest vulnerability. Its historical Golden Age was bought by overdrawing future fortune, while its later decline was attributed to the resulting backlash. 5726

After the fall of the Human Race’s three ancestors, Ye Lin temporarily assumed responsibility for the race’s major affairs. He used the Kongtong Seal, Human Emperor Banner, and Human Emperor Sword to stabilize its turbulent destiny. 5741 5742 5743

Ye Lin later revealed that he had personally killed the Three Ancestors in order to settle a karmic debt, causing considerable shock and anger among the Human Race’s gathered powerhouses. 5742

Racial fortune can limit the emergence of additional high-level experts. During Wang Hou’s early reforms, the Human Race had eight half-step Martial Kings but insufficient fortune to support the birth of another full Martial King. As humans gathered in the Holy Cities, their combined fortune strengthened both the race and the leader who bore it. 1808

In the Eastern Continent, Ye Lin’s recognition as common ruler placed the fortune of the regional Human Race upon him. During its invasion of the Shadow Clan, this fortune appeared as a Luck Golden Dragon confronting the enemy race’s fortune. 613 655

Before leaving the Star River Cosmos, Ye Lin refused expectations that he would remain to restore the race’s ancient supremacy. He placed its future administration in the hands of its existing leaders, while assuring them of temporary deterrence and assistance from the Phoenix Clan if they were attacked. 5902

Internal Unity and Conflict

The Human Race’s regional societies display both severe internal factionalism and strong solidarity under external pressure. After the collapse of the Heavenly Palace, five transcendent factions struggled for leadership and drew the Eastern Continent’s Human Race into prolonged internal warfare. A True Lord from the Ancestral Land later warned that renewed civil war, with hostile races watching, would place humanity in grave danger. 460 501

In the Myriad Demon Great World, powerful elites monopolized resources while gifted commoners lacked the means to cultivate. Ye Lin regarded this internal imbalance as a threat that could destroy the race even if its external enemies were eliminated. Wang Hou’s reforms therefore emphasized purging entrenched rulers and distributing cultivation methods rather than relying on conquest alone. 1805 1808

By contrast, the oppressed humans of the era encountered around the Cloud Sea Star Region were described as unusually united. Hidden experts investigated and protected emerging prodigies where possible, but their scarcity forced them to weigh the survival of an established expert against the uncertain future of an undeveloped talent. Some humans also served powerful foreign races in exchange for limited protection. 5534

Cultivation, Crafts, and Warfare

  • Alchemy: The Enlightenment Pill could guarantee entry into enlightenment. Its potential prompted stronger races to force ancient humans to declare its formula destroyed. 572
  • Artifact refining: Human weapon forging relied on incorporating formations, with better materials supporting stronger formations. Even ninth-grade Human Race refiners were described as inferior to the Artifact Race’s Heaven-Bestowed Divine Patterns. 830
  • Body cultivation: The Nine Revolutions Profound Art was identified as an ancient Human Race body-tempering technique. 673
  • Teleportation technology: During the war against the Heavenly Court, Human Race forces used a teleportation array developed from Heavenly Court technology to reach Myriad Source Mountain. 4404
  • Resource use during the counteroffensive: Forces conquering star regions cultivated while fighting, immediately consuming captured resources rather than accumulating reserves. The Nether Race’s resources produced a qualitative improvement in their overall strength. 5580
  • Large-scale deployments: In preparation for a Nether Race invasion, the Human Race divided its army into ten formations, each supported by a powerhouse. Ye Lin commanded hundreds of millions of troops at the center against an approaching force numbering in the hundreds of billions. 5587

Regional Conditions

Region / World Situation
Eastern Continent Nameless Mountain’s victories made the Human Race one of the continent’s three dominant races. The Shadow Clan later exploited internal instability to launch an invasion. 461 605
Xuanhuang Great World The Human Race retained a formidable capacity to recover from extinction crises, but only three of the world’s ten transcendent factions belonged to it. In the Central Continent’s struggle against the Outer Realm Heavenly Demons, heirs, surviving descendants, elders, and rogue cultivators rallied under their shared Human Race identity. 1320 1324 1343
Heavenly Billows World Human Race experts allied with immortals and gods to overthrow and seal the Demon World. After the Mortal and Immortal Worlds merged, leadership of the united realm rotated between a Human Race expert and an immortal or god expert in thousand-year terms. 1090
Xuanyuan / Heavenly Demon Great World Once ruled by humans, the world was conquered by the Outer Realm Heavenly Demons after a war that killed ninety-nine percent of its native inhabitants. Human survivors retreated to the Extinction World and preserved their lineage through marriages into successive Heavenly Demon Emperors’ families, while their aging ancestors’ deterrence prevented final extermination. 1537
Myriad Demon Great World Humans were once reduced to surviving in the cracks between the Demon Race and beastmen. Wang Hou’s reforms transformed them into a major military power. 1799 1808
Mysterious Land — Northern Region The impoverished Northern Frontier served as the Human Race’s last major refuge. Scarce resources, few cultivators, weak leadership, and civil war threatened its survival; outside the frontier, humans were routinely hunted by other races. Chaotic Mountain City was an exceptional Human Race settlement far beyond this refuge, populated by emaciated inhabitants. 2015 2024 2163
Heavenly River Galaxy Cluster The Human Race’s strongest known experts were only the Three Venerables, all Heavenly Immortals, leaving the race vulnerable to stronger clans. Ye Lin later eliminated the leaders of three threatening clans, granting the region a temporary peace. 2310 2314
Northern Demon Domain Human Race factions were broadly weak, oppressed, and vulnerable to extermination; in Eastern Radiance City, humans were openly enslaved, sold, and used as food. The destruction of the Ten Thousand Swords Sacred Sect had previously ushered in an especially severe regional dark age. 2667 2677 2742
Cloud Sea Star Region Most humans were slaves, blood food, or playthings of the myriad races; hidden Human Race experts protected promising prodigies whenever possible. Li Jinhuang’s faction began organizing Human Race forces to overthrow the Rakshasa Clan’s rule. 5534 5536 5547
Long River Star Region Human Race forces seized the Nether Race’s regional territory and resources, making it one of three star regions already captured during the counteroffensive. They subsequently prepared to repel a much larger Nether Race invasion. 5580 5587
Origin Continent The Heavenly Saint Imperial Dynasty and Hidden Sword Pavilion were the only known Human Race factions in the Eastern Continent at the time of Ye Lin’s initial visit. Outside their territory, humans could be treated as blood food. 4016

Relations

  • Ancient Human Emperor — The Human Race’s greatest historical ruler, identified as Li Jinhuang; his rise ended an era in which humans were hunted as food, but his campaigns against the myriad races created a lasting racial blood feud. 3820 4016 5908
  • Ye Lin — Served as Human Race Sovereign in the Eastern Continent, inspired uprisings in the Northern Demon Domain, and later stabilized Human Race destiny after killing the Three Ancestors to settle a karmic debt. Before leaving the Star River Cosmos, he declined permanent leadership and entrusted the race to its remaining administrators. 672 2717 5742 5743 5902
  • Wang Hou — Martial King and later Human Emperor of the Myriad Demon Great World; he reformed the Human Race, purged corrupt rulers, expanded its territory, and shared martial cultivation methods. 1807 1808
  • Li Jinhuang — A Human Race prodigy who sought to unite Human Race forces in the Cloud Sea Star Region and overthrow the Rakshasa Clan’s rule. He later led the ancient campaign against the Heavenly Court and prepared to reorganize the victorious Human Race internally. 5536 5565 5684 5692
  • Three Ancestors — The remaining powerhouses whose presence preserved the weakened race’s standing among the ten peak races. Their simultaneous deaths caused a destiny crisis that Ye Lin suppressed. 5412 5741 5742
  • Sword Venerable — Revealed the Human Race’s wager with the Heavenly Dao, the consequences of fortune backlash, and its agreement with the Aberrations to Ye Lin. 5726
  • Prophet — The Human Race sage who created martial arts in the Myriad Demon Great World and enabled humans to establish their own city before his death in war against the Demon Race. 1799
  • Li Qingya — Empress of the Xuanyuan Imperial Dynasty, whose marriage formed part of the Human Race’s survival strategy in the Heavenly Demon Great World. She sought Ye Lin’s help to destroy the Heavenly Demons before humanity’s ancestral protectors died. 1537
  • Demon Race — A recurring rival that has enslaved, hunted, and fought the Human Race across several worlds; periods of open war followed Human Race resurgences. In the Myriad Demon Great World, the two races also formed a temporary alliance against invading Sea Beasts. 1799 1809 1812 5562
  • Shadow Clan — An Eastern Continent enemy defeated by Jian Huaian and later targeted for extermination by Human Race forces. 296 660
  • Great Rock Empire — A major persecutor of humans in the Northern Demon Domain. Its retaliation for Blood Baleful’s actions included the slaughter of humans across three star systems. 2681 2742
  • Nether Race — An enemy whose forces fought the Human Race for the Long River Star Region. Capturing its regional resources greatly strengthened the Human Race, but further Nether Race forces mobilized to retake the region. 5577 5580 5587
  • Blood Clan — Frequently selected humans as cultivation targets because of their population, relatively pure blood, and internal divisions, treating the Human Race as a source of medicine. 4695
  • Weaker races — Often allied with the Human Race because Human Race protection offered relief from oppression by stronger clans. 2719 5575
  • Earth Spirit Race — Its possible incorporation into the local Human Race raised concerns about retaliation from its enemy, the Ice Sparrow Race; Ye Lin rejected fear of that confrontation as a reason for timidity. 2342
  • Elf Race — Ye Lin attempted to secure its cooperation against the Shadow Clan, giving its queen three days to decide and threatening consequences if she refused. 660
  • Ten great island factions — Wen Ruxue proposed that these newly appeared factions help expand Nameless Mountain and stabilize the approaching golden age in exchange for Human Race recognition of their identities. 718
  • Phoenix Clan — Provided assistance to Ye Lin in the past; after stabilizing Human Race destiny, Ye Lin personally visited the clan to express his gratitude. Before his departure, he stated that it would intervene if another race attacked the Human Race. 5743 5902
  • Aberrations — Entered an agreement with Human Race forebears to inhabit Primordial Unity Golden Immortals and prolong their lifespans, preserving the race’s deterrent power while creating a growing threat within those cultivators. 5726

Story Role / Major Arcs

Conflict with the Shadow Clan

Jian Huaian defeated the Shadow Clan’s forces, killing three Dao Integration True Lords. The Shadow Clan retaliated with a large force, attempted to assassinate Jian Huaian with poison, and later invaded while the Human Race was still recovering from internal upheaval. 296 605

Human Race geniuses viewed the Shadow Clan’s actions as an insult to their racial dignity and resolved to repay the humiliation through an extermination campaign. 300

The later invasion involved the Shadow Clan, Black King Clan, Ban Dog Clan, Heaven-Blasting Clan, and Celestial God Clan. These five races captured a million kilometers of Human Race territory in a month before organized resistance produced a stalemate. Zhuge supplied Ye Lin with intelligence on the Five Prefectures’ major forces and the reorganized Five Divine Armies. 606

The Human Race’s large-scale mobilization eventually frightened off races recruited to obstruct them, forcing those races to withdraw and dispatch envoys to seek forgiveness. 609

Ye Lin argued that remaining passive while the Demon Race and Asura Clan fought would merely leave humanity waiting to be slaughtered by the eventual victor. He treated the Eastern Continent’s upheaval as an opportunity for the Human Race to rise rather than a conflict it could safely avoid. 610

The Human Race subsequently advanced into Shadow Clan territory with continual reinforcements. Its Luck Golden Dragon confronted the Shadow Clan’s fortune, while other formerly hostile races sought friendly relations out of fear of retaliation. With the Demon Race occupied by the Asura Clan, Ye Lin also pressured the Elf Race Queen to join the campaign. 655 660

Reforms in the Myriad Demon Great World

A blood moon descended a million years before Ye Lin’s visit, transforming living creatures, including plants, into savage Demon Beasts. After a hundred thousand years of human decline, the Prophet created martial arts and enabled the first martial artists to carve out a Human Race city. His eventual death in war against the Demon Race returned humanity to a dark era, leaving successive prodigies to preserve its survival. 1799

The Human Race of the Myriad Demon Great World was weakened by entrenched elites, internal struggle, and the lack of resources for talented commoners. Ye Lin identified reform from within as necessary for the race’s survival. 1805

Wang Hou emerged from seclusion, purged the Holy City’s ruling class, distributed cultivation techniques, expanded Human Race territory, and established new Holy Cities. 1808 1810

By the fifth year of reform, three Holy Cities stood in a mutually supporting triangular formation. The population exceeded ten million, with twenty Heavenly Human Realm experts and eight half-step Martial Kings. In the sixth year, the population reached 15.8 million, creating pressure to construct another city. 1808 1809

The Demon Race attacked the three Holy Cities with an army of ten million led by three Demon Emperors. Wang Hou faced the emperors while martial artists above the Innate Realm fought alongside the Human Race army. Their victory was followed by further territorial expansion and the development of eight mutually supporting cities over the next decade. 1809 1810

After Wang Hou reached the Martial Emperor Realm, his draw with the First Demon Emperor interrupted humanity’s advance. Subsequent fighting included a thirty-year war and a Sea Beast invasion that forced the Human Race and Demon Race into a temporary alliance. By his later resource negotiations with Ye Lin, Wang Hou identified himself as Human Emperor and stated that humanity had unified the continent. 1812 1814

Northern Demon Domain Rebellion

In Eastern Radiance City, humans were exempt from legal protections and could be freely beaten, enslaved, or sold. The discovery of this oppression provoked Ye Lin’s anger and helped motivate later retaliation. 2667

Before the uprising, the Human Race Alliance was divided over whether to aid Blood Baleful. The Great Rock Empire’s slaughter of humans in three star systems intensified the dispute: White Eyebrow advocated caution, while the Divine Sword Sect Master condemned his peers’ reluctance and pledged support. 2681

After Ye Lin defeated Yan Batian as Blood Baleful, Human Race cultivators rose against the races that had oppressed them. His appearance reversed the Northern Demon Domain’s balance of power and attracted weaker races seeking protection. 2717 2719

Ye Lin directed the clearing of hostile races from the subordinate Thousand Cities Alliances, seeking to make the Ten Thousand Cities Alliance a territory where the Human Race alone held authority. His rise also restored the Human Race’s qualification to send talents to Void Burial after years in which other races had plundered its ancestral treasures there. 2720 2726

War for the Heavenly Court

During the ancient era experienced through the Black Tortoise Secret Realm trial, the Human Race committed its remaining foundations to a massive counterattack against the Heavenly Court. Other powerful factions watched the outcome before deciding whether to support it, while the emergence of a Human Race Primordial Unity Golden Immortal prompted hostile races to conceal evidence of their past crimes. 4397 4398 4440

The Human Race and allied races captured the Heavenly Court, then began expanding across the Star River Cosmos to impose order on the myriad races. 4432

The Human Emperor’s final decree proclaimed the Human Race the foremost race of the Star River Cosmos, with heavenly retribution promised against those who defied the order. 4434

He subsequently renamed the Heavenly Court the Human Ancestor Hall. The surrender of the remaining opposing Primordial Unity Golden Immortals completed humanity’s rule over the cosmos, and Ye Lin remained in that ancient era for a hundred years before leaving the trial. 4439 4440

Cloud Sea Star Region Counteroffensive

Li Jinhuang sought to unite the scattered Human Race forces of the Cloud Sea Star Region and build a foothold capable of overthrowing the Rakshasa Clan. He exposed Ye Lin to the desperate conditions endured by countless humans confined to a ruined, qi-depleted star. 5536

When the Rakshasa Clan’s principal powerhouses were absent, Human Race forces launched a regional offensive. Their three-day slaughter of Rakshasa cultivators became a cathartic act of retaliation for generations of enslavement and abuse. 5547 5550

Human Race powerhouses later invaded the True Mystic Star Region to rescue Ye Lin from the Ancient Royal Clan. The Demon Race initially planned to allow the rescuers to gather and then annihilate them together, but Ye Lin and his companions broke through its defenses and escaped. The Ancient Royal Clan responded by mobilizing the Heavenly Court and other races against humanity. 5557 5562

Following the rescue, Ye Lin accepted responsibility for helping lead the Human Race’s counteroffensive. Li Jinhuang invited him back to the Cloud Sea Star Region to consolidate their strength and prepare attacks on other star regions. 5563

The campaign expanded into the Long River Star Region, where heavy fighting against the Nether Race caused casualties on both sides. Ye Lin killed enemy Primordial Unity Mystic Immortals but did not attempt to prevent every Human Race death, regarding battle experience and losses as unavoidable aspects of war. Captured resources subsequently transformed the strength of the victorious Human Race forces. 5577 5580

As the ancient campaign progressed, Li Jinhuang led an assault on the Heavenly Court after most of the Star River Cosmos had already fallen under Human Race control. Ye Lin witnessed this rise unfold over twelve thousand years. During the decisive battle, he supplied Li Jinhuang with the Heaven-Devouring Demon Jar and Emperor Sword to offset the Heavenly Emperor’s superior weaponry, then commanded the Human Race army while the two rulers fought beyond the heavens. Victory was followed by preparations for internal reorganization. 5684 5688 5692

Crisis of Human Race Destiny

After the Three Ancestors died simultaneously, the Human Race’s destiny fell into turmoil. Ye Lin declared that he would temporarily oversee the race’s major affairs and revealed that he had killed the ancestors to repay a karmic debt. 5742

As the sole Human Race Primordial Unity Golden Immortal recognized by both the Human Emperor Sword and the race’s fortune, Ye Lin was able to use the three destiny treasures to suppress the instability. He also promised to protect the Human Race from Primordial Unity Golden Immortal threats while he remained in the Star River Cosmos. 5741 5743

His declaration made clear that the Primordial Unity Golden Immortal Realm was not his final goal and that he intended to pursue the Emperor Road and the Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal Realm. Some Human Race powerhouses consequently urged that resources be redirected toward nurturing the younger generation rather than relying indefinitely on Ye Lin. 5743

Ye Lin’s Departure from the Star River Cosmos

At the end of his Star River Cosmos journey, Human Race leaders hoped Ye Lin would remain and restore the glory of the ancient era. His refusal disappointed those who expected his continued presence to secure their race’s position in the new era, particularly after the loss of the Three Ancestors. 5902

Ye Lin entrusted the Human Race’s administration to its remaining leaders. He stated that no race would dare oppress it for some time after his departure and that the Phoenix Clan would intervene if a hostile race nevertheless acted. This arrangement offered protection without committing him to permanent leadership. 5902
