Background / History

Shen Changchuan is the illegitimate son of Shen Fuxing, patriarch of the Tiannan Shen Clan. He received Dawan Village, a remote and comparatively poor holding on the edge of the clan’s influence, because it produced little beyond spirit grain. His maternal grandfather, Han Qinhu, accompanied him there and became one of his most reliable supports. 1

For two and a half years after transmigrating, Shen deliberately suppressed his cultivation progress to avoid becoming a target amid the Shen household’s internal strife. He regarded his innate aptitude as ordinary compared with genuine cultivation prodigies, making the Progress Bar Panel central to his path. 9

The panel displays his proficiency in techniques and grants traits once a spell reaches 100% mastery. Those traits improve the spell itself and accumulate related comprehension, allowing Shen to develop an unusually broad, deeply perfected spell foundation through persistent practice. 3 302 767

Shen initially used Dawan Village’s spirit-grain economy to secure cultivation resources, but he consistently placed personal strength above administration or status. As his abilities grew, he defeated attackers, protected merchant caravans under an alias, and gained fame as a cultivator capable of crossing cultivation levels. 8 48 163 237

After entering the Dragon Firmament Sect, Shen became Roaming Dragon’s disciple. Under his master’s guidance and through the Progress Bar Panel, he perfected the Three Forest Senluo Sword Array, ascended to the Out of Body Realm, and condensed both the Wood Spirit Body and a Divine Ability Seed. 253 283 293

His later rise extended beyond Tiannan. Shen developed the Gu Control Secret Technique, whose improvements materially aided the war against Demonic Cultivators, refined the Void-Escaping Gu, and gradually transformed borrowed spatial power into power he could control himself. 442 497 631

Appearance

While acting as Zhang Qingyuan, Shen adopts the image of a distant green-clad swordsman through disguise techniques and a thin mask.

  • Wears a cicada-wing-thin mask while using the Zhang Qingyuan identity. 163
  • His altered bearing makes him difficult even for acquaintances to recognize. 163
  • The Void-Escaping Gu manifests as mysterious flowing silver patterns in his palm. 497

Personality

Shen is cautious, pragmatic, and acutely aware of the dangers posed by stronger cultivators and clan power struggles. He avoids unnecessary risks, refuses to let status distract from cultivation, and prefers stable advancement over gambling on uncertain opportunities. 60 186

He is also highly strategic. He selects techniques to cover practical weaknesses, conceals his cultivation when advantageous, uses aliases to protect his interests, and prepares extensively before dangerous journeys or conflicts. 34 125 154 378

Despite his growing reputation, Shen generally remains humble and self-aware. He acknowledges when victories rely on favorable circumstances, recognizes stronger opponents, and continues to seek advice from seniors rather than treating fame as proof of invincibility. 614 679 723

His caution does not mean passivity. Han Qinhu’s counsel helped him understand that habitual retreat could damage his resolve; Shen gradually becomes more willing to strike decisively when necessary. 240

Abilities & Skills

Progress Bar Panel

A personal panel that records cultivation progress for spells and techniques.

  • Reaching 100% proficiency produces a perfection trait. 3
  • Traits improve spell performance and provide accumulated experience in related disciplines. 15 454
  • Shen used large numbers of first-tier spells to build a foundation for later high-tier techniques and divine abilities. 302 331
  • The panel does not grant instant mastery; Shen must acquire and correctly practice each technique himself. 331

Perfected Spellcraft

Shen’s defining combat advantage is his extensive mastery of perfected spells.

  • Early perfected techniques included Golden Needle Stab, Light Body Technique, Spirit Eye Technique, Wind Blade Technique, and Fireball Technique. 15
  • He added the Golden Bell Technique for defense and Earth-Shaking Technique for crowd control and area damage. 34
  • His perfected spells enabled him to defeat cultivators above his apparent realm. 27 63 114
  • By the Out of Body Realm, he had cultivated nearly 200 first-rank spells and two second-tier spells to perfection. 331

Sword Arts

Shen specializes in sword-type spells and divine sword techniques.

  • Azure Wood Sword Light — A powerful wood-attribute sword spell capable of overwhelming defenses; it became one of his principal trump cards in the Qi Induction Realm. 58 95
  • Three Forest Senluo Sword Array — His innate divine ability. It can suppress and injure powerful opponents, and later reached perfection. 276 283
  • Green Wood Cloud-Piercing Sword — A perfected second-tier top-grade spell whose sword force cleaved a thousand zhang of sky. 452
  • Three Thunder Shadow-Extinguishing Sword and Triple Giant Sword Technique — Used to eliminate bandit cultivators, including two ninth-level Qi Induction opponents. 183
  • Longevity Sword — An innate divine ability Shen had evolved before the Dao Seeking Society competition. 701 707

Movement Techniques

Shen places high priority on mobility and escape.

  • Light Body Technique — Perfected early; increases his movement speed. 8 15
  • Gale Swift Shadow Art — Lets him move like a flash of lightning and cross more than ten zhang in an instant. 163 169
  • Thunder Shadow Swift Movement — A perfected second-tier movement technique; Shen prioritized it after entering the Out of Body Realm. 304
  • Void-Stepping Technique — Used alongside spatial power to confront opponents and improve his spatial combat methods. 600 759

Wood Spirit Body

A spirit body condensed during Shen’s advancement to the Out of Body Realm.

  • Amplifies his wood-attribute spells, including Azure Wood Sword Light. 298
  • Was condensed simultaneously with a Divine Ability Seed, an unusually rare achievement. 293 305

Spatial Power

Shen first accessed spatial abilities through the Void-Escaping Gu, then developed personal control over the Power of Space.

  • Void-Escaping Gu — Allows instantaneous spatial movement over ten li, though its initial use lacked precision. 497
  • Can disrupt another cultivator’s spatial implement or movement technique. 567 614
  • Shen later mastered the Power of Space through his own ability, greatly improving control beyond what the Gu alone provided. 631
  • Applies spatial power to spells, defenses, physical attacks, and rapid repositioning. 593 721 716
  • His spatial speed was so difficult to perceive that observers compared it to teleportation. 704 706

True Intent of Time

A True Intent that rapidly decays matter.

  • Caused all life within several miles of a mountain forest to wither during testing. 789
  • Effective in close combat but limited in range and costly to use. 789
  • Its comprehension reached 9.9% after six months of secluded cultivation. 875

Gu Arts

Shen developed and employs several Gu-based methods.

  • Gu Control Secret Technique — His improved version was adopted in the war against Demonic Cultivators and used with Golden Toad Kings to identify them. 442
  • Golden Wind Jade Dew Gu — Temporarily overclocks his cultivation, allowing him to contend with stronger Out of Body Realm opponents; the strain requires a powerful physique. 524 532
  • Void-Escaping Gu — Provides spatial movement and supports Shen’s use of spatial power. 497 543

Body Tempering

Shen gradually strengthened his physique to support high-output techniques.

  • Began cultivating the Golden Body Tyrant Art, though progress was initially slow because he lacked related perfection-trait experience. 451 524
  • Used Thunder Flame Mountain’s thunder-and-fire spiritual liquid for body tempering. 543
  • Afterward, he could sustain the Golden Wind Jade Dew Gu’s overclocked state longer and withstand several attacks from a Spirit Wandering Realm cultivator. 546 572

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Two Golden Needles — Quasi-low-grade magical tools used with Golden Needle Stab. 8 15
