Background

Yu Xiaogang was a member of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and became known among commoner soul masters as the “Grandmaster” through his Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul. His cultivation, however, stagnated permanently at level 29, a humiliation that shaped his ambition and fixation on repairing his martial soul. 146

In his youth, he formed a relationship with Bibi Dong while she was Spirit Hall’s Holy Maiden. Bibi Dong gave him a token granting access to restricted areas of Spirit Hall and authority to mobilize a Title Douluo; Yu Xiaogang subsequently spent extensive time in Spirit Hall’s library acquiring knowledge unavailable to ordinary soul masters. 195

He later served at Shrek Academy, where he devised training plans for its students and regarded their potential as the foundation for his future theories. When several students disappeared during a soul-ring hunt, he focused less on their loss than on news that Martial Soul City might contain a method to break a martial soul’s shackles. 145

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is deeply proud of his reputation as the “Grandmaster” and treats recognition of his theoretical ability as more important than nearly anything else. His supposed composure repeatedly gives way to arrogance when he believes his name, past relationship with Bibi Dong, or theories will earn him special treatment. 192 193

He is driven primarily by resentment over his level-29 bottleneck. Upon learning that Martial Soul City could help others overcome martial-soul limitations, he immediately abandoned Shrek Academy to pursue a cure for himself. He rejected Tang San’s plea to accompany him and dismissed the search for Xiao Wu as a distraction from his own goal. 146

Yu Xiaogang consistently misreads Bibi Dong’s hostility as lingering affection. He interpreted her coldness, the guards’ violence, and even Qian Daoliu’s reaction to his name as parts of an elaborate effort to welcome him back. 192 193 207

Yu Xiaogang’s original martial soul was Luo Sanpao, a malformed, pig-like dragon manifestation.

Journey to Martial Soul City

After learning that Ning Fengzhi had allegedly overcome a martial-soul limitation in Martial Soul City, Yu Xiaogang became convinced that Bibi Dong owed him the same opportunity. He left Shrek Academy immediately, seeking to escape his level-29 bottleneck. 145 146

Humiliation at Maple Dye Pavilion

Yu Xiaogang entered Martial Soul City believing Maple Dye Pavilion had been prepared by Bibi Dong as a gift to win him back. His condescending demand for directions led Spirit Hall guards to beat him publicly, after which Qian Daoliu further assaulted him outside the pavilion. 192 194

Inside Maple Dye Pavilion, he mistook Lin Feng for Bibi Dong’s servant and demanded service. He later demanded that Bibi Dong order Lin Feng to repair his martial soul, threatening to reveal her relationship with Lin Feng if she refused. 196 251

Conflict with Bibi Dong

Yu Xiaogang repeatedly addressed Bibi Dong as “Dong’er” and treated her hostility as evidence that she still cared for him. His insults toward Lin Feng finally provoked Bibi Dong into beating him with the Six-Winged Angel Scepter. 207 208

He later publicly accused Bibi Dong and Lin Feng of having an improper relationship, hoping to use the accusation as leverage. Rather than submit, Bibi Dong announced that she would expose the origin of his theories before the entire soul master world. 250 252

Public Trial

Yu Xiaogang was bound to a cross in Spirit City’s central square and publicly whipped for disrespecting the Pope. 323 324

Spirit Hall accused him of attempting to assassinate Bibi Dong, while Ning Fengzhi, Dai Tianfeng, and Emperor Xue Ye testified against him. The decisive blow came when Bibi Dong exposed his plagiarism and challenged the accuracy of the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul. 325 326 329

Bibi Dong stripped him of the “Master” title, sentenced him to one hundred public lashes, and ordered life imprisonment in Blackstone Prison. 330

Loss of Luo Sanpao

During the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan catastrophe, Liu Erlong attempted to secure Yu Xiaogang’s survival through self-sacrifice. Lin Feng extracted Luo Sanpao, restored it into the Golden Holy Dragon, and allowed Yu Xiaogang a brief moment of triumph. 527

Lin Feng then destroyed the Golden Holy Dragon, leaving Yu Xiaogang a cripple without Soul Power. 528
