Nuoding City

Yu Xiaogang entered Tang San's life at Nuoding Junior Spirit Master Academy, presenting himself as the world-renowned “Grandmaster.” After Su Chen rejected his offer of mentorship, Yu focused on Tang San—an innate full soul power student with twin Martial Souls—as the disciple through whom he would prove his theories 2 3.

He personally led Tang San to obtain his first Soul Ring. During the hunt, Luo Sanpao's gas failed to stop a four-hundred-year Mandala Snake, and the snake's venom struck Yu Xiaogang's lower body when Tang San evaded its attack. Tang San cut away the poisoned tissue, leaving Yu Xiaogang castrated; the injury permanently affected his voice and movement 6 7 9 16 23.

Yu blamed Su Chen for the circumstances surrounding the injury and urged Tang San to use the Mandala Snake's poison against him. His condition later became public knowledge at Nuoding Academy after Su Chen displayed a recording of the incident 8 9 14. Tang Hao subsequently treated Yu Xiaogang, entrusted him with a Pope Token, and instructed him to continue teaching Tang San while keeping Tang Hao's identity secret 9.

Yu Xiaogang is a son of Thunderclap Douluo Yu Yuanzhen, the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's sect master. Despite his lineage, he had been driven out of the clan and spent much of his life away from it. Move to Shrek Academy

After interpreting Tang Hao's letter as evidence of Spirit Hall interference, Yu Xiaogang resolved to leave Nuoding City with Tang San. They travelled to Soto City and joined Shrek Academy, where Flender arranged for Yu to instruct Tang San, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun 22 23 26.

Soon afterward, Tang San accidentally struck Yu Xiaogang's injured lower body with Hidden Weapons, then destroyed his remaining testicle in another accident involving a Hidden Weapon Box. Flender misunderstood the scene as a sexual encounter between teacher and disciple. Shao Xin's Sugar Beans subsequently helped stabilize Yu Xiaogang's condition 26 27 28. The accidents left him wary of approaching Tang San, and five years later he maintained a three-meter distance while carrying a long wooden club 49.

At Shrek, Yu sought recognition beyond Tang San alone. He accepted Flender's invitation to train the students, but demanded absolute authority over training plans, schedules, Soul Power allocation, team coordination, and future Soul Ring choices 56. His arrival was immediately undermined when Xiao Wu publicly exposed his castration, causing him to lose his composure 56 57.

Training Wager and Public Humiliation

Yu Xiaogang introduced uniform weighted-running training, requiring students of different combat roles to carry baskets of stones. Su Chen challenged the method for ignoring the distinct needs of power-attack, agility-attack, support, and food-type Soul Masters 67 68.

His authority was also challenged when Su Chen questioned the treatment of body-part Martial Souls in his classifications and criticized his decision to demonstrate his theories through an exceptionally gifted disciple rather than an ordinary child. Yu Xiaogang became so upset that he spat blood and collapsed 74.

During a later Soul Beast hunt, Yu Xiaogang demanded Su Chen's method for absorbing over-limit Soul Rings, intending to incorporate it into a publication under his own name. He justified the demand as being for the benefit of the entire Soul Master world 81 82.

In the Star Dou Great Forest, Yu Xiaogang and Tang San unknowingly inhaled Su Chen's Affectionate Lingering Incense and became sexually entangled, with Luo Sanpao joining after inhaling the same substance. Flender and the other Shrek members witnessed the incident, leaving both teacher and disciple deeply humiliated 87 88. Yu Xiaogang later interpreted Tang San's pig-tail External Soul Bone as the result of intense physical stimulation during over-limit Soul Ring absorption. He attempted to reproduce the supposed effect with Luo Sanpao, but the experiment caused him further injury rather than a confirmed breakthrough 93 94 95.

Determined to obtain Su Chen's secret for absorbing high-age Soul Rings, Yu wagered a month-long training contest between their students. His team was decisively defeated by Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong, despite his confidence in the regimen 96 104 109. After attempting to reject the result and feign unconsciousness, he was forced to honor the wager by crawling around Shrek Village on all fours and barking 110 112 113 114.

Following the wager, he withdrew to his cabin. Flender persuaded him to emerge for Shrek's team battle against the Imperial Fighting Team by presenting it as another opportunity to prove his theories. While reviewing the opponents' information, Yu Xiaogang recognized captain Yu Tianheng as his nephew 126 127.

Blue Tyrant Academy

Yu Xiaogang persuaded Flender to relocate Shrek Academy so its students could enter the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament. Although he publicly framed the move as being for the students' futures, he also intended to use Tang San's eventual success to restore his own standing 136.

Following the group's rejection at Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Yu Xiaogang applied for a theoretical guidance post at Blue Tyrant Academy. His Level 29 Soul Power was exposed during the required registration process 149. There, he reunited with Liu Erlong, whom he had avoided for two decades 151.

The reunion was disrupted when Su Chen used Diarrhea Three Thousand Feet · Nine Turns Seven Thousand Breaths, causing Yu Xiaogang to lose control of his bowels before the assembled group. Tang San helped him clean up, while Liu Erlong allowed the displaced Shrek members to settle at the academy 151 152 153.

Su Chen later offered the possibility of an Immortal Herb that could help Yu Xiaogang reach Rank 30. Yu Xiaogang ordered Tang San to apologize to Su Chen as a preliminary condition, then learned that Su Chen expected him to offer Liu Erlong as his “sincerity” 169.

Later, desperate to obtain an Immortal Herb capable of breaking his Rank 29 bottleneck, Yu Xiaogang manipulated Liu Erlong's feelings and attempted to persuade her to make a sacrifice in exchange for one. She rejected him after learning his true motive 181 182. She slapped him hard enough to break two teeth and expelled him from her courtyard. Yu Xiaogang concealed the reason for his injuries from Tang San, describing his attacker only as a vicious woman who ambushed Soul Masters below Level 30 182 183.

After witnessing Xiao Wu defeat Tai Nuo, Yu Xiaogang attributed her strength to an Immortal Herb-induced Martial Soul transformation and imagined Luo Sanpao evolving into a Golden Sacred Dragon. He again approached Liu Erlong to ask her to get together with Su Chen in exchange for herbs, provoking another beating. Flender intervened but inadvertently revealed Yu Xiaogang's castration to Liu Erlong, prompting Yu Xiaogang to accuse his old friend of ruining his reputation 192. Still unwilling to summon a healing Soul Master, he relied on Recovery Candy Beans obtained by Tang San before seeking out Su Chen again 195.

Yu Xiaogang subsequently opposed the exclusion of Tang San's group from Blue Tyrant Academy's official tournament lineup. With Flender's help, he obtained a selection battle, but his side lost to Su Chen's team 203 204 206. He threatened to leave unless Tang San and Dai Mubai received official places, expecting Liu Erlong to ask him to stay. Instead, she accepted his departure 206.

Flender chose to accompany him, and Tang San, Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun also left. Yu Xiaogang fainted from anger before the departure was complete and later recovered in a hotel arranged by Flender 207 208.

Return to Heaven Dou Royal Academy

After leaving Blue Tyrant Academy, Yu Xiaogang proposed using Tang Hao's influence to gain admission to Heaven Dou Royal Academy. He revealed to Tang San that his father was the Clear Sky Douluo and that his second Martial Soul was the Clear Sky Hammer, then called for the secretly observing Tang Hao to appear 209. He subsequently assured Tang San that his father's backing would make the royal academy invite them in and allow them to recover their lost prestige 212.

At the royal academy, Yu Xiaogang reunited with Yu Tianheng and promised that his “Invincible Theory” would help his nephew distinguish himself in the tournament. The encounter became embarrassing when Yu Tianheng noticed the urine odor on his clothes and assumed that his uncle had wet himself 224 225.

Yu Xiaogang took over the Imperial Fighting Team's tactics and training from Sun Buyu. He ordered Yu Tianheng to surrender the captaincy to Tang San, attributing his nephew's poor judgment to grief over Dugu Yan. The original Imperial Fighting Team members regarded the incoming Shrek group with suspicion 228.

When Tang San subdued the dissenting teammates using Hidden Weapons, Yu Xiaogang supported his disciple's conduct and treated the victory as sufficient justification for his captaincy. Privately, however, he admitted that their current team had almost no chance of defeating Su Chen's team through ordinary training, tactics, or theory because the difference in raw strength was too great 230.

Tang San later offered to teach Yu Xiaogang the Mysterious Heaven Skill, suggesting that improved meridian circulation might help him break through Rank 30. His commitment to theory is rigid. He confidently insists on established Soul Ring limits and interprets conflicting evidence as impossible, fraudulent, or harmful rather than reconsidering his conclusions 49 105 106. His fixation on reaching Level 30 likewise drives much of his later behavior, including his pursuit of Immortal Herbs 108 180.

Yu Xiaogang is deeply attached to Tang San, treating him with paternal warmth and relying on him as his principal disciple. At the same time, he views Tang San as the proof of his own value and the instrument through which his theories will gain continental recognition 3 26 61. He is willing to manipulate others—including Liu Erlong—when he believes doing so may advance his cultivation or reputation 181 182.

His desire to preserve dignity repeatedly overrides medical prudence.
