Background / History

Tang San entered Notting Academy with Blue Silver Grass and innate full soul power. His first encounter with Su Chen ended in public humiliation when Su Chen's soul skill forced him to kneel and catch a descending sword barehanded. 1

He became Yu Xiaogang's personal disciple soon afterward, declaring that “a teacher for a day is a father for life.” Tang San trusted Yu enough to reveal his concealed second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer, despite Tang Hao's warning to keep it secret. 3

During their hunt for his first soul ring, snake-type soul beasts repeatedly targeted Tang San. He evaded them with hidden weapons and Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, but Yu Xiaogang was struck by Mandala Snake venom. Tang San killed the snake, absorbed its ring, and performed the emergency amputation Yu Xiaogang requested to survive. 6 7

After returning to Notting Academy at level 13, Tang San challenged Su Chen again and was defeated by the same kneeling skill. His connection to Yu Xiaogang's injury made him a target of campus ridicule, after which he withdrew from ordinary classes and received private instruction while also forging at a blacksmith shop. 8 15 16

Tang San later traveled with Yu Xiaogang to Shrek Academy. Years of recurring bad luck, public embarrassment, and defeats at Su Chen's hands intensified his fixation on becoming stronger and taking revenge. 23 49 69

Appearance

By his return to Shrek Academy, Tang San had grown taller and developed deeply tanned skin. 49

  • Usually wears blue clothing and a center-parted hairstyle. 21
  • Lost his two front teeth in a blacksmithing accident, leaving a visible gap that affects his speech. 49
  • Possesses a Pig Tail spirit bone that manifests from his tailbone. 90 91

Personality

Tang San is intensely devoted to Yu Xiaogang, consistently addressing him with reverence, defending his reputation, and placing himself in danger to protect him. He saved Yu Xiaogang from the Man Faced Demon Spider and vowed that anyone seeking to harm his teacher would have to step over his corpse. 3 87

He is resilient under physical pain and danger, enduring a cross-rank soul-ring absorption and repeatedly returning to cultivation after humiliation. 84 89 116 However, his pride is easily wounded. Public defeats and mockery feed a lasting resentment toward Su Chen and others he believes have humiliated him. 21 95 195

Tang San is also tactical and willing to use concealed weapons, ambushes, and battlefield maneuvering. His plans can become reckless when his desire for recognition or revenge overrides teamwork, such as his unilateral charge at Ye Lingling during the Imperial Fighting Team battle. 26 128 129

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass in his right hand and the Clear Sky Hammer in his left. Yu Xiaogang instructs him to conceal the hammer and not attach soul rings to it. 3

  • Blue Silver Grass — His primary control-type Martial Soul. 1 105
  • Clear Sky Hammer — His hidden second Martial Soul; he uses it when necessary, including against the Man Faced Demon Spider. 3 87
  • Limit: Revealing the Clear Sky Hammer risks exposing the secret of his lineage. 3 71

Blue Silver Grass: Bind

Tang San's first soul skill creates thick Blue Silver Grass vines to restrain opponents. 52

  • His Mandala Snake soul ring gives the grass neurotoxic paralysis. 8
  • He uses the vines to immobilize dangerous soul beasts before closing in with hidden weapons. 87
  • The skill can be countered by opponents with overwhelming control effects or superior speed. 8 104

  • Provides limited resistance to Dugu Yan's Jade Phosphorous Purple Poison. 129
  • He pushes the technique beyond normal limits while absorbing the Man Faced Demon Spider ring. 89

Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track

A movement technique that lets Tang San evade attacks through abrupt, unnatural footwork. 6

  • Escapes the center of the Mandala Snake's venom spray. 6
  • Lets him rapidly close distance against the Man Faced Demon Spider. 87
  • Used to maneuver around the Imperial Fighting Team's front line. 129

Hidden Weapons

Tang San forges and carries concealed Tang Sect weapons, favoring surprise attacks and precision strikes. 6 26

  • Its aura contributes to others mistaking him for a transformed hundred-thousand-year soul beast. 90 91
