Layout & Environment
Slaughter City occupies a vast underground space beneath a surface town. Its purple moon provides light without a day–night cycle 312 327 339.
- City exterior: A colossal black city with broad, thick walls and a pitch-black gate bearing its name 312 316.
- Entry arena: A circular platform outside the city, thirty meters across and two meters high. Both the platform and surrounding soil are dark red from accumulated blood 312.
- Inner-city wall: Approximately ten meters high, separating the inner city from the outer district 318.
- Blood pool: Jiang Chen detects a blood-red space more than eight hundred meters beneath the city. During Hell Road, he identifies an enormous pool containing human blood accumulated over the years 329 359.
Districts & Landmarks
| Location | Function and Conditions |
|---|---|
| Outer city | Residents can remain outside the inner city's more dangerous environment by contributing two cups of blood each month. Many are visibly emaciated 318. |
| Inner city | A violent district inhabited by powerful Fallen Ones. Its luxurious residential area includes the snow-white building Jiang Chen and Hu Liena choose as their residence 320. |
| Enforcer District | Fighting is prohibited. Restaurants, shops, and other services operate here; food and drink are free, while other goods are extremely expensive 326. |
| Hell Slaughter Arena | An enormous black circular building at the city's center. Its fighting floor exceeds one hundred meters in diameter and is surrounded by tiered stands 331. |
| Hell Road | The final trial associated with leaving the city and obtaining Divine Slaughter's Domain. A vast blood pool lies below it 305 359. |
| Altar space | A possible true core of the city, containing three floating drops of divine blood that emit an immense slaughter aura 361. |
The Enforcer District opens for twelve hours, closes for twelve hours, then reopens. Residents use this schedule as a substitute for ordinary days and nights 327 329.
Governance & Rules
Although described as a place “without any rules,” Slaughter City maintains strict entry procedures, protected areas, and supernatural restrictions. Outside those protections, strength determines what residents can seize or retain 283 313 326.
Administration
- Slaughter King: Governs the city and controls access to Hell Road. Even he cannot casually alter its established rules, according to Bibi Dong 306 356.
- Terror Knight Scott: Leads applicants to their final admission trial and distributes identification tokens to survivors 312 316.
- Law enforcers: Guard the city, prevent escape from the admission arena, and enforce the Enforcer District's restrictions 314 327.
- Reception guides: Black-clad women wearing black gauze veils receive newcomers inside the gate 316.
- Enforcement captains: The force confronting Tang San includes more than a dozen captains, two of them Titled Douluos 957.
Soul-Skill Suppression
The city's laws suppress soul rings and their associated soul skills. Martial Soul possession remains possible, making physical strength, weapons, agility, and close-combat technique particularly important 313 314.
- Divine Slaughter's Domain bypasses suppression: Bibi Dong states that Soul Masters within her domain can use their soul skills. A domain-bearing Slaughter God can therefore lead an unsuppressed force into the city 306 960.
- The Slaughter King's domain releases soul skills: During Tang San's assault, the king restores the Fallen Ones' soul rings and abilities 961.
- That release depends on his presence: After the king leaves, the Fallen Ones and enforcement leaders lose access to their soul rings again 965.
- Possible source: Jiang Chen suspects the three drops of divine blood sustain the city's rules and that removing them could end the suppression. The supplied passage presents this as his deduction, not a demonstrated result 361.
Entry & Trial System
Admission
| Step | Requirement or Procedure |
|---|---|
| Bloody Mary | Drinking the human-blood beverage is the most basic qualification for entry 304 305. |
| Approach | Surface-town hotel staff lead applicants toward the underground city. Multiple entrances serve different groups 310 312. |
| Admission battle | Applicants must survive a mass killing trial. In Jiang Chen and Hu Liena's group, 305 entrants are told that only thirty may enter 313. |
| No withdrawal | Soldiers surround the arena and kill applicants who attempt to flee 314. |
| Identification | Survivors receive skull-marked, numbered tokens. Jiang Chen receives 8007; Hu Liena receives 8008 316. |
Forced entry can bypass the ordinary approach but risks confrontation with enforcement knights. Jiang Chen rejects that method because he cannot guarantee Hu Liena's safety; Tang San later breaks through a weak point beneath the surface town 310 955.
Hell Slaughter Arena
- Entry fee: Each visitor supplies one cup of Bloody Mary, poured into a large collection container by arena staff. It is not drunk at the arena entrance 331.
- Registration: Competitors register using their identification tokens 331.
- Match format: Ten combatants fight until only one survives 331 333.
- Victory threshold: One hundred victories earn the opportunity to attempt Hell Road 305.
- Operational importance: The arena is the city's principal source of Bloody Mary. When Jiang Chen and Hu Liena's reputations deter other competitors, its organizers secretly negotiate with Jiang Chen to keep matches running 353.
Leaving the City
Bibi Dong describes Hell Road as the only way her disciples can leave and obtain Divine Slaughter's Domain. The city also grants privileged departure rights without completing that trial 305 355 644.
| Route | Outcome |
|---|---|
| Complete Hell Road | Obtain Divine Slaughter's Domain 305 957. |
| Accept the king's exceptional offer | Jiang Chen and Hu Liena are offered the title God of Slaughter, distinguished-guest status second only to the king, and unrestricted entry and departure 355. |
| Become a guest elder | After one hundred victories, Xiao Qing accepts this position and gains freedom to enter and leave, but does not obtain Divine Slaughter's Domain 644. |
To open Hell Road for Jiang Chen and Hu Liena, the Slaughter King drives the arena spectators into fatal self-mutilation. Their blood flows through special channels into grooves forming a pattern on the arena floor 356.
Blood Economy & Daily Life
- Bloody Mary: Human blood serves as a drink, an admission requirement, an arena entrance payment, and a means of purchasing goods 304 305 326 331.
- Currencies: Shops accept both soul coins and Bloody Mary 327.
- Incentive for murder: Killing provides blood that can be exchanged for goods, directly encouraging everyday violence 326.
- Population: The city contains tens of thousands of Fallen Ones, including Soul Sages and Soul Douluos 954 961.
- Sexual violence: Predatory behavior is widespread. Women in arena matches may be targeted for assault before being killed, rather than treated solely as opponents 335.
- Cultivation conditions: Jiang Chen reports a drastic reduction in his Soul Power cultivation speed. He instead uses powerful opponents' blood to improve his zombie cultivation and physical condition 330 331.
History & Major Events
Jiang Chen and Hu Liena's Trial
Bibi Dong introduces Slaughter City as a death trial and prepares her disciples with close-combat training, exposure to Bloody Mary, and medicinal supplies. She privately warns the Slaughter King that harming them would provoke an attack by a hundred-thousand-strong army protected from suppression by her domain 283 303 305 306.
Jiang Chen and Hu Liena survive the admission battle and establish themselves in the inner city. Repeated ambushes become opportunities to build a feared reputation, while Jiang Chen investigates the underground blood pool and the Slaughter King's identity 316 320 326 329.
After roughly a year, Jiang Chen has ninety-nine victories, Hu Liena ninety-eight, and Xiao Qing seventy. Both disciples subsequently reach one hundred victories and reject the king's offer of privileged status, insisting on Hell Road instead 353 354 355 356.
Xiao Qing's Guest Eldership
During the year or so after Jiang Chen's departure, Xiao Qing continues competing until she reaches one hundred victories. Following his advice, she becomes a guest elder rather than attempting Hell Road 644.
Tang San's Return and the City's Collapse
Tang San completes Hell Road and obtains Divine Slaughter's Domain. He later returns with the Shrek Seven Monsters, now all Titled Douluos, intending to kill every Fallen One and destroy the city 954 957.
The Slaughter King restores his citizens' soul skills and sends tens of thousands against the attackers to exhaust them. Tang San's group uses flight and its Seven-in-One Fusion Skill to pursue the king, who retreats through the city and escapes underground 961 963 964.
Tang San's group abandons the pursuit to target Jiang Chen and collapses its entry tunnel while withdrawing. Other entrances remain open. With the king absent, the enforcement leaders lose their soul skills, are killed by the Fallen Ones, and can no longer prevent a mass escape 965.
Jiang Chen later defeats Tang Chen outside the city, after which Tang San fatally impales him. Returning to the surface town, Jiang Chen finds widespread slaughter and most of the escaped Fallen Ones already gone 977 990. He subsequently accuses Tang San of causing the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians by breaching the city 1032.
