Background

Born Li Yu, Gou Yu is the son of Li Xianyi, head of the Luocheng-based Li Family, and Li Xianyi's former university classmate. After Li Xianyi remarried and had another son, Gou Yu's mother divorced him; the Li Family retained custody of Gou Yu. 272

The Li Family subjected Gou Yu to intensive elite education and isolated research work from childhood. Over seven years, he progressed from assistant to supervisor, person in charge, and finally core theoretical proposer for the family's scientific programs.
