Watching the many clones of Shisui Uchiha charging at him, Hyuuga Nen's eyes darted around as he tried to locate the real Shisui.
"My Byakugan can't see through these clones. Could this be the Shadow Clone Technique?" Hyuuga Nen thought as he dodged.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
Most of Shisui Uchiha's clones attacked one after another. If a strike missed, they immediately darted away, waiting for another chance to attack.
Occasionally, when they spotted a good opportunity, two or three clones would attack together. The unending stream of attacks left Hyuuga Nen struggling to keep up.
After knocking one of the clones back with a palm strike, Hyuuga Nen seized the chance to escape the encirclement. He leaped away and watched Shisui Uchiha and his clones.
The clone Hyuuga Nen had struck staggered backward. Soon, its form grew unstable, and with a bang, it vanished.
Hyuuga Nen saw the clone turn into a mass of chakra that dissipated into the air.
Through his Byakugan, Hyuuga Nen saw that the chakra from the clone did not return to Shisui Uchiha's body. For that reason, he couldn't tell which one was the real Shisui.
The exchange had given Hyuuga Nen some insight into Shisui Uchiha's Body Flicker Technique. The jutsu combined the Body Flicker Technique with the Clone Technique and even incorporated Genjutsu.
Shisui Uchiha was incredibly fast, every bit as quick as Hyuuga Nen. Being attacked by several clones at once was a real headache.
During the fight, Shisui Uchiha had also tried to use Genjutsu on Hyuuga Nen, but it hadn't worked.
"His clones aren't ordinary Shadow Clones, and they can take far more punishment than normal ones," Hyuuga Nen analyzed.
Hyuuga Nen had seen Shisui Uchiha's file at the Black Market. It claimed that Shisui's clones created by his Body Flicker Technique didn't disappear when attacked, but Hyuuga Nen thought that was impossible.
As far as Hyuuga Nen knew, the only thing in the Shinobi World that couldn't be broken was a Truth-Seeking Orb. Surely Shisui Uchiha's clones weren't made of Truth-Seeking Orbs. It was obviously impossible.
Shisui Uchiha's clones were indeed unusually durable, but they couldn't be immune to damage. Hyuuga Nen suspected that the claim came from Shisui's Genjutsu.
As Shisui Uchiha used the Body Flicker Technique, he also used Genjutsu to confuse his enemies, making them believe his clones couldn't be destroyed.
"No wonder they call you Body Flicker Shisui. Your Body Flicker Technique has opened my eyes. But your clones probably aren't Shadow Clones. If I figure out their secret, your Body Flicker Technique won't work on me."
As he spoke, Hyuuga Nen stared at Shisui Uchiha, hoping to spot some tell in his expression.
To Hyuuga Nen's disappointment, Shisui Uchiha's expression didn't change at all. He and his clones attacked at the same time.
"Whoosh!"
The sword in Shisui Uchiha's hand cut through empty air, sending out several sharp whistles.
"Rotation!"
Shisui Uchiha caught Hyuuga Nen off guard, forcing him to use Rotation to defend himself.
But as he used Rotation, Hyuuga Nen increased his chakra output, destroying several more of Shisui Uchiha's clones.
"Why don't you make more clones? You seem to have plenty of chakra. Are you afraid I'll figure out your jutsu's secret?"
Hyuuga Nen looked at Shisui Uchiha and asked.
"The clones I have left are enough to defeat you." Shisui Uchiha replied, then charged at Hyuuga Nen again.
Shisui Uchiha was frustrated. Hyuuga Nen was strong, and without using his Mangekyō Sharingan, Shisui wasn't confident he could beat him.
Even after using his signature Body Flicker Technique, Shisui had failed to gain the upper hand.
The fight had confirmed what Itachi Uchiha had told him: Hyuuga Nen wasn't affected by Genjutsu.
Against Hyuuga Nen, many of the tricks Shisui Uchiha used to confuse his enemies became useless once he employed the Phantom Body Flicker Technique. Even his clones could use Genjutsu, after all.
"His chakra really is strange. My clones were destroyed so easily," Shisui Uchiha thought.
Shisui Uchiha had believed the clones created by the Phantom Body Flicker Technique were highly durable, yet Hyuuga Nen had broken them with ease.
It was the combination of the clones' toughness and Genjutsu that made others think they couldn't be destroyed, earning Shisui Uchiha his reputation. But neither ability worked against Hyuuga Nen.
Even when one of his clones was destroyed, Shisui Uchiha could send the remaining chakra back to himself to conserve chakra.
But against Hyuuga Nen, who had the Byakugan, Shisui Uchiha didn't dare use that ability. If Hyuuga Nen saw the chakra flowing between his body and the clones, he would discover which one was the real Shisui.
Under the circumstances, Shisui Uchiha could only use his numbers to wear Hyuuga Nen down. But the results weren't to his liking.
"Should I use my Mangekyō Sharingan? No! If I use it, my clan's ambitions will only grow, and the relationship between the clan and the village will become even more strained."
Just then, Shisui Uchiha realized that all his clones had been destroyed.
Hyuuga Nen watched Shisui Uchiha for a few seconds. When he made no further move, Hyuuga Nen understood.
"Shisui Uchiha, you don't dare use the Phantom Body Flicker Technique again because you're afraid I'll discover its secret, right?"
Shisui Uchiha didn't answer. His expression darkened.
He truly didn't dare use the Phantom Body Flicker Technique again. Even if he concealed his movements well, the Byakugan would see them.
The first time he had used the Phantom Body Flicker Technique in front of Hyuuga Nen, Shisui Uchiha had been taking a gamble. Fortunately, he had won. Hyuuga Nen hadn't focused on the right things and hadn't discovered the secret of the technique.
But if he used the Phantom Body Flicker Technique again, Shisui Uchiha wasn't confident he could fool Hyuuga Nen's Byakugan. The flow of chakra in the jutsu would surely be seen clearly.
As Shisui Uchiha considered what to do, Hyuuga Nen spoke.
"Actually, it wouldn't matter even if you didn't use the Phantom Body Flicker Technique again. I've already figured out your jutsu."
Seeing Shisui Uchiha's eyes widen slightly, Hyuuga Nen continued.
"The clones from your Phantom Body Flicker Technique are Yin Release Clones. They're much stronger than ordinary Shadow Clones. Combined with your remarkable speed and Genjutsu, you can make most people meet their end when they face you. Am I right, Body Flicker Shisui?"
During his fight with Shisui Uchiha, Hyuuga Nen had sensed a cold aura coming from his clones.
Considering that Shisui Uchiha had already awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan, as well as the abnormal strength of his clones, Hyuuga Nen concluded that the Phantom Body Flicker Technique had been developed using Yin Release.
With the Phantom Body Flicker Technique, Shisui Uchiha could deal with most enemies without using his Mangekyō Sharingan.
Hearing Hyuuga Nen's words, Shisui Uchiha could no longer keep his expression under control. He parted his lips in surprise and stared at Hyuuga Nen.
Shisui Uchiha gripped the hilt of his sword tightly, but soon let go. Then he formed Hand Seals again, and nearly ten clones appeared once more.
"What, you think the same trick will beat me?" Hyuuga Nen looked at Shisui Uchiha in surprise.
