Background / History

Tang San arrives in Soto City with Xiao Wu, where both witness Ye Xuan defeat Dai Mubai. A single glance from Ye Xuan leaves Tang San feeling insignificant; he concludes that Ye Xuan is extraordinarily dangerous and must not be provoked. He later speculates that Ye Xuan may be either reborn like himself or an aged expert restored to youth. 3 4

After watching Ye Xuan defeat Zhao Wuji, Tang San recognizes similarities between Ye Xuan's techniques and the martial arts of his past life. He becomes particularly intrigued that Ye Xuan's internal energy does not convert into spirit power as his own does. 6

Seeking answers during a cultivation bottleneck, Tang San visits Ye Xuan for advice on Martial Souls. Ye Xuan's description of Martial Souls as the world's “foundation” gives Tang San a moment of enlightenment. 13

Personality

Tang San is protective and resolute, particularly where Xiao Wu is concerned. He insists on searching for her after her disappearance in the Star Dou Great Forest, attempts to stop Spirit Hall from taking her, and later asks Ye Xuan to safeguard her when he recognizes that he cannot do so himself. 17 33 36

He is pragmatic when outmatched. Although distressed by Xiao Wu's departure, he accepts her decision and focuses on becoming stronger. 40 41
