Background / History

Er Ming first appears when he attempts to take Xiao Wu away from Bai Yi. Bai Yi blocks him, reveals the Lingming Stone Monkey martial soul, and communicates directly with him through Communication with the Nether. Bai Yi offers him a path to godhood and immortality in exchange for becoming his fifth soul ring while retaining his consciousness. 36

At the Star Dou Great Forest lake, Bai Yi demonstrates his primordial aura to Er Ming and the Sky Azure Bull Python, Da Ming. Er Ming accepts Bai Yi’s proposed arrangement without hesitation: he will sacrifice himself to become Bai Yi’s fifth soul ring, while Bai Yi promises that both brothers will eventually attain godhood and eternal life. 40

Er Ming’s body dissipates into Bai Yi during the sacrifice, granting Bai Yi a hundred-thousand-year soul ring and raising his Soul Power to level 53. Rather than perishing, Er Ming’s consciousness and soul are preserved as an independently acting humanoid soul spirit. His survival reassures Da Ming that Bai Yi can uphold their agreement. 41

Bai Yi later summons Er Ming into the developing space of Buddha Kingdom in the Palm to test whether it can sustain living beings. Over the following three months, Er Ming performs the physical work of shaping the artificial world—moving stones, digging earth, planting trees, and maintaining its environment. 42 43

After Bai Yi’s seclusion, Er Ming is allowed outside and accompanies Bai Yi, disguised as Wang Tiezhu, to the Great Soul Arena. Bai Yi intends to test Er Ming’s combat performance as a soul spirit. 44

Er Ming is a massive Titan Giant Ape with dark-golden fur and golden eyes. While inside the Buddha Kingdom in the Palm, he is described as a dark-gold giant ape large enough to sprawl across a central boulder. 43

He complains internally about losing the freedom he once had as a Star Dou Great Forest overlord, but resumes working when Bai Yi invokes the prospect of bringing Da Ming into the space and their eventual godhood. 43
